Great video again lindsay nice wee fly flytying is all about the person tying adapting flys to suit there own needs if they catch fish there doing the job you just need to take your time and practice regularly is the most important thing until your happy with what you tie
I wish I had heard this when I first started. I used to think that the fly wouldn't catch fish if I didn't use the prescribed ingredients. Now I'm not bothered regarding substitutions. Hopefully you will prevent others from falling for the trap like i did. Cheers! Keep up the great content.
Nice tie thanks for sharing. Wonderful advice. Nothing wrong with adaptation . Been doing that since a starting tying 40 years ago . Making do with what I had available.
I carry some materials and a travel vice on any holiday I'm likely to be fishing on. I tied a booby - sz 14 hook, micro booby yellow eyes and peach marabou tail and wing (no 'body' other than the shiny hook), and had two best 'bows of the day on Menteith, when the booby's I had were ripped to bits the previous day.... Lesson learned!
When tying floss tags I like to use the tag end to stop the floss slipping by taking the floss up in the direction of the eye a couple of turns then pull the tag end towards the eye and secure it then trim.
A feller could go broke buying all the specific components for every fly they wished to try. Try something, if it works for you then IT WORKS. Go fishing.
The correct or close enough shade is more important than exact colour. Then proportion, and balance of materials. Overly bushy snatchers are only worth a go if you are pulling one on the top in a ripple.
