Aloha! We're flying British Airways today to Singapore on the first leg of the Kangaroo route from Sydney to London. If you've ever wondered how BA compare to Qantas come and see! They've shared this route since the 30's. If you have to travel 17,000 km you definitely want to consider all your options wisely..

How does British Airways compare to Qantas and Singapore Airlines? Which airline do you prefer flying to London from Sydney? Qantas, Singapore Airlines or British Airways?

At the moment, the best way I can describe BA in long haul economy is that they are a solid allrounder (good but not a clear winner in any category you’d likely compare - price, food, seat design/comfort, on-time performance, IFE, lounges, crew.) but when you put all those pieces together it’s a mostly enjoyable product. Qantas can be outright awesome if you have the right plane and crew. As for my preferred (economy), if they are all equally priced Singapore would have the most consistent and reliable product. BA business class would be my last choice in this route. Thanks for watching! Shane

Amazing! I strongly encourage British Airways to upgrade from 787-9 to A350-1000 on London - Singapore - Sydney route!

Hallo ' flew this Routing many times during the 2000 but with 744 and mich more nicer in Eco. Was so much space.keep happy landings for you...greetx from Frankfurt FRA. Kai

Good Morning from Singapore Kai! Sorry for the late reply. I remember the BA 744’s flying into Sydney. I would plane watch with a coffee and donut underneath the Sydney Control tower. The 744’s all have a special place in my heart, my first flight was on an Air NZ 747 and I remember being amazed watching the wing flex (almost flapping) as we taxied down the runway. Air Pacific (Now Fiji Airways) had economy upstairs and I thought I was so fancy flying at the top of the bubble too. Frankfurt and Lufthansa would give you some really good reminders of those beautiful planes! Thanks for watching. Shane

SIA any day. I booked through a travel agency to fly to LHR end of October, return early November, & they put me on QF1 going & Emirates return. I can't begin nor end as to what was wrong. I wish I had seen this video before I left but it is too recent. I arrived in the UK & three days later came down with Covid after avoiding it for 4 years. If the terminal & crowds in Heathrow didn't give it to me it was the tray table on the A380 as Qantas serves meals without a tray & the food sits on the table. I also dozed with my hands on the tray table for somewhere to put them then handled my food. I will bring wipes next time regardless of airline. But I have only flown Qantas internationally twice, the first in 1988 & even then it was a rush trip back from Europe & only Qantas had a seat available. That too is another story of an unscheduled stop in Athens, not allowed to go near the doors for a breath of fresh air, & a 3 hour wait for an electrical relay to go through Greek customs. The relay was above the rear toilet on the 747 & it took 10 minutes to fix. I have only ever flown with BOAC way back in the late '50s & they were far better with service then. BA was only flown in the UK & Europe but except for a snack from Rome to Heathrow it's mostly tea, coffee or water sir.

Good Morning Howard, Firstly that’s a great profile photo, I haven’t seen that Air Pacific livery before, is that their first aircraft? I have some incredible memories flying their later 747 “island in the sky” to Fiji. I often find that when things go wrong they make the trips easier to recall, even though it’s awful at the time. One of the few positives of a misadventure. I hope you have recovered well and were able to salvage some of your trip. Thanks again for watching! Shane

Hi David, well spotted! I asked one of my contacts and the rollout was botched - they started the uniform change project pre pandemic and a ran into a whole lot of supply, quality, design and dissatisfaction issues. There’s been a lot of PR activity since I filmed this though and I have some BA flights to Iceland coming up next month, I’m curious to see how they’ve landed. Of the airlines who do you think has the best uniforms?

Why bother with BA. Their a "has been" airline. Similar or often cheap prices on other airlines. eg Singapore and Emirates. Save yr money and forget BA.

I tend to find that Airlines with a strong domestic base poison their international/long haul product. Managers and execs get promoted and bring their thinking along and run it like a bus service - Put multiple domestic markets next to one another you end up with Euro Business. Every airline has their sweet spot and long haul economy on BA isn’t bad. Definitely not leading, but not bad if you find the right price. Business class on the other hand I’d definitely need a ripping good deal to make me part with my money. There’s a lot of airlines that have been sitting on their hands and banking their cash to restore their balance sheets and the mess with Boeing hasn’t helped. Time to innovate again and that makes it exciting! So, we watch lots of RU-vid and part with our pennies wisely! Thanks for watching. Shane.

@@PlaneShane If It was Me or I had to do it again Singapore Airlines.I am in Adelaide and Yes the schedules kind of suck,Just over 8 hours in Transit going to London for South Australians but service wise miles ahead of anyone else.Coming home unless you have a Singapore stopover for a few days It's roughly a 5 hour transit which is great.I would not recommend Qantas Via Perth at any cost as their only advantage on the return is being home in your own house the next day while anyone on SQ has a long night ahead.
