Flying a mavic pro all the way to the peak of Matterhorn, the most beautiful mountain in the world. Extreme amounts of snow this year - a sunny day without wind made the flight possible. :)
Thank You so much, you saved me from having to climb it, I can take that off my "bucket list"now... Seriously, just think of how many tens of thousands of people have gazed at that mountain over past centuries and wondered what it looked like up there... I greatly enjoyed your effort.
Awesome close up detailed footage of the peak! Now I can crop the best image from the top, then take a selfie of me in high altitude mountain climbing gear, then photo shop my selfie image onto the peak! That's how I managed to "climb" all of the "7 highest peaks" on the 7 continent's in just under 7 hours! Now I can add this to my list of "climbing" accomplishments. I never thought i could get a superb up close photo of me on the top. Thanks to this upload, now I can!! So now when I meet people who actually did climb 'the 7 peeks' I'll be like, (yawn) "Yeah. The 7 peeks are cool, but did u guys ever conquer this! (me whips out photoshopped image of me on this mountain)" (Mic drop. BOOM!)
My great grand father Cromwell Oliver climbed the Matterhorn from the worst side with the help of guides in the 30’s. When he got to the summit his guides asked where he had climbed before. He replied he hadn’t this was his first. My great grandfather said he almost had to fight both guides on the summit!
I was born in Bern in 1966 and lived in Büren before moving to the States, I haven’t been back since 1973 but now that I’m retired I plan on making that trip. Five years ago my daughter went on a European vacation on her own and I insisted she go visit her niece and nephew in Gretchen. My daughter gave me the best I’ve ever had, on my 50th birthday she gave me a video she made of her trip to Switzerland and most of all she captured my old house, my grandmothers house, my school and most of all down town Büren. I still get tears when I watch it or if I should hear the song she put on the video. I get tears when I see other videos of my beautiful homeland.
Such an awesome and beautiful mountain! Such an interesting and informative video! The ridges you show us certainly look like the obvious routes, and yet just imagining attempting to climb them fills me with dread and fear! Thank you for doing this! It would be interesting to see this again, when the snow is gone and the land and valleys below are green.
There is no way my Mini 2 could 'ever' come close to this high lol! What an EPIC view 😍 just the sheer thought too, how many people lost their lives scaling and here you are flying to the peak by drone.
Uhm, I wonder in general, how he got around the ascend limiter of the DJI software. It only allows you to ascend 500 meters from your starting position.
DJI has a maximum altitude that is only 500 m above take off altitude. It will not fly above that. I have about three DJI drones and they are limited this way. So I don't know how you got it up so high.
@@RRRIBEYE When it is very cold (like 4500m in the middle of winter...) the battery will have a lot less power and the system will overestimate the remaining range. Not to forget that thin air eats up a lot more battery. This is already noticable on 2000m altitude. The drone can easily run out of power in these conditions
@@foobar9220 Yes. I'm suspicious that he used a standard DJI drone. They will not climb more than 500 m above take off altitude. This looked like it was higher.
I waited and hoped that the man operating the drone would try to photograph the shadow of the drone on the side of the mountain. That would make the beautiful video a perfect video.
Super video. I was in the winter a view years ago in Zermatt and up to mount Gornergrat wit Gornergratbahn. Stunning! Thank you for posting. Greetz from the Netherlands. Joachim - TrainJJ
Awesome! I understand now why I have so much respect for the mountain climbers while at the same time thinking that they are crazy. Ok to live your passion, make sure that it is realy your passion because the moutain treat every body the same way. Thank you for sharing!
@@HirsutechinCervino is the Matterhorn, for those who prefer it,the Italian portion is the biggest. Cervo means Deer in Italian..........Cervino,is little Deer.
not really, the mount everest base camp is at 4200m, the north side tibet plateau is even a bit higher at 5200m so basically the mount everest is "just" a 3800 m climb. Zematt on the other hand is on 1600 m. The actual mountain is barely higher than matterhorn. You just start much higher.
You should fly the Hornli ridge during climbing season in late July to catch cliimbers on their way up in the early morning. It would give perspective on the size of the mountain.
@@LancesterHardwood It limits you from the height of take-off. Although, at least with mavic mini the highest take-off altitude is 3000 meters, so theoretically you can reach 3500 meters. Sadly, I could not capture the top of Matterhorn with mavic mini taking off from 2850 meters..
I don’t wish to sound negative but the helicopter pilots that operate in this area, some of them emergency services would not be happy on meeting your drone so high up. I would think that frigging the software to operate at this altitude is illegal. Ps I have stood on the Matterhorn in the days without drones.
