@goytabr

@@christiem25, the outside temperature can get to -60ºC at that altitude, and it's obviously not compatible with human life (though some Russians would disagree). The temperature inside the cabin depends on how the flight crew adjusts the air conditioning, but on a Canadian plane you wouldn't expect it to be very warm. Probably something between 15 and 20ºC (60-70ºF), which is pretty manageable outdoors but a bit uncomfortable already if you're indoors and inactive, or worse, sleeping, when your heat production decreases and so does the body temperature a bit.

Air Canada: Walmart Edition, yeah, that checks out lol. Part of the issue is that AC lost a ton of domestic capacity when the MAX was grounded, so they've had to use Rouge on some of domestic mainline routes, as opposed to the leisure destination flights you'd expect them on.
@lucasfragoso7634

Agreed rouge was created to got to places like Lisbon or porto routes in demand but not enough that its economical to send parts of the main fleet. It was never ment to fly to places like Vancouver
@WesleyH99
@WesleyH99 4 года назад
Alex Praglowski Aviation air Canada started Rouge on multiple destinations before Max incident. Toronto to San Diego, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Barcelona are all Rouge started as early as 2013. Before Max, the main difference is before Max were grounded, planes would charge outlets. Now they are using older planes and there are no outlets while you’re expected to use your own device for entertainment (I just did YYZ to MIA on Jan 15, 2020). Non-Rouge flights have newer planes (when I took YVR to YYZ in November 2019, the plane has individual entertainment screen for each passenger with 3,4,3 configuration)

@Alfie Dixon - Yes, you're right, I am a US citizen, but if you're thinking I'm the type of person to just root for anything American indiscriminately, you'd be way off. Like I said, I was actually surprised AA was that good, given the reputation US airlines (even flag carriers) have had of late. I went on the flight because it was affordable; the trip was a codeshare and it was AA on the way there, and BA on the way back. It was the BA part I was more interested in.

I can probably be more critical of AA's breakfast on that same flight I had, actually. It was like "here's some cold packaged cookies, a tiny yogurt, and a tiny drip coffee. I was like, this isn't enough calories to keep me warm next to the window at 41,000 feet!

TIP: Air Canada almost never offers award space on their real Signature Class (business class) flights with lie-flat seats between Vancouver and Toronto vice versa! When redeeming an award ticket, ALWAYS try to use Air Canada's Aeroplan miles as they allow passengers who are booked on a business class award to do a "same day change/standby" for a flight which the aircraft is equipped with their Signature Class. You cannot do the same when redeeming through the frequent flyer programs of other Star Alliance carriers.

First thanks for reminding me to load the Air Cattleprod app on my iPad. That way I don't need to use theirs. Fair review. I fly Rouge often between YYZ and MCO and occasionally to DUB. If you go in with low expectations. You get what you expect. In the non bulkhead seats there *generally* are slots to put the cover over the iPad in the seat in front so it hangs above the tray table.

Dan, first off: Yes boy, spill that tea lmao. Second, it would definitely be a little helpful if Air Canada could be assertive in distinguishing and advertising how Rouge is their no frills low cost carrier compared to their standard "Air Canada" which leads to my next point. Airline compamies labeling things such as "Premium" especially in a low cost carrier seems to be a big no-no in my book. It's like a dollar store selling a premium version of dollar store toilet paper. Informative video as always Dan. Thank you for the hard work and effort you put in to this amazing channel.

Air Canada Rouge is really aimed at the budget traveller. It really is one of those 'you get what you pay for' deals. One some routes you have no choice like to the Caribbean, although they do fly on some Transatlantic routes which are more 'touristy'. I find Air Canada's Business Class to be just as good as most of the European carrier I've flown in the last few year. I have 2 long hauls coming up with them and really looking forward to both.

I have flown all cabins with Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge. Rouge is mediocre at best. I usually consider it a success if we get from point a to point b but there's really no luxury in premium economy versus regular economy aside from the cutlery you're given to eat your food. I think you'll enjoy the Air Canada business/first class experience, especially on their Dreamliner plane. The seats has massage features, which are amazing. The food service is much better than what you got here and the beds are relatively comfy. It probably won't compete with some of the luxury middle eastern airlines but it's decent.

Daniel, I've been flying Air Canada Rouge twice (in economy). I have to say it's been two of the best flights I ever had! For being a low cost carrier, they do a great job! Just look at their in flight cafe offerings. It's amazing! As a fellow Swede, I compare with our state owned brand, SAS, who offers an expensive sandwich as its most. This route is a mainline Air Canada Route. So to be fair these routes were turned to Air Canada Rouge because of the 737 Max jet issue and normal AC mainline flights will hopefully return next year. Air Canada Rouge is a budget/discount line. Those 767's are really really old and should have been put out of service. Those old 767 Rouge planes are horrific. Mainline Air Canada is much better. Rouge was designed for leisure routes not regular service.

The ancient airplane, the looks of the (frozen) food, the iPad with the stains all over the cover, and the fact that your seat neighbor couldn’t even get a blanket! And all for the same price as a lie flat seat with Air Canada? What is wrong with Rouge?! Now I’m really happy that I’m an American Airlines One World girl! Dan, Premium Rouge is exactly the same as Air canada north American business class. Same catering, same blanket policy (pillows are free but you if you want a blanket u gotta pay for a kit which includes multiples articles $$), drinks, snack basket, etc. The only different thing would be that you get an iPad instead of the screen. In certain areas rouge is better because they get exclusive spirits that ac doesn't have on their north american/sun destinations. However, you are 100% right that the limited routes in north america that operated by a widebodied mainline aircraft will be better. Most YYZ-YVR are operated by narrow bodied AC aircrafts and would feature the same business class seats and service as Rouge.

As a Brit living in Canada for nearly 40 years I'm no fan of Air Canada. Stopped using them years ago as I found on many occasions an arrogant attitude from both ground staff and flight crew - had the feeling that they were doing me the favor of letting me fly on their plane! So switched, back in the 80's to C.P. Air which morphed into Canadian Airlines (a great airline) which unfortunately, in turn became absorbed by - guess who - Air Canada. So now my choice is West Jet. Not as good as Canadian was, but at least they make you feel that they value your business.

Air Canada on the other hand within North America they need to compete with often cheaper US Airlines and therefore do not offer an amazing products, but it is still better than most US Airlines. Air Canada Signature long haul is outstanding, just flew YVR-ZRH 787-8 seat 1K and FRA-YVR 787-9 3A. Both flights exceptional, food, seat, service crew, complete 180 from AC Rouge far better than LH Business long-haul mostly due to the 1-2-1 configuration and outstanding seat. AC Rouge is a discount arm, don't expect much more, 'it is what it is' and your report was about what I'd expect. AC Rouge is being deployed on routes like YYZ-YVR 100% due to the MAX groundings, AC is doing the best it can as it's the most, per-capita affected airline in the world by the MAX groupings, it got screwed by boeing so kudos to them for keeping the frequencies up.

Fly Air Canada Signature Business Class on their 787s (newer product). I've flown between Vancouver and Toronto many times on Air Canada with pleasant experiences and internationally multiple times as well, but never on Rouge. I was able to try their new business class product on Air Canada's 777-300ER so I would recommend reviewing that one. My only flight with Rouge was from Cancún to Toronto which went as expected for a rouge flight.

Uh.....gee whiz, Dan! I'm practically speechless! I've been on RJ200 bulkheads that have more room than that, and I’m only 5'4"! I'm amazed you were able to walk after being crammed into that seat for four hours. I was enjoying a salad while watching your report, but when I saw what you were trying to choke down, I had to stop and reach for a Tums.(shudder!) I couldn't believe they were going to charge that poor woman for a measly blanket! I hadn't heard of Air Canada's Rouge line before now. Thanks to you, I'm avoiding it like the plague!

Most low cost carrier airlines just don't give blankets. Its not just an Ac rouge thing. They have a blanket kit for sale that comes with a blanket, pillow, eye mask, ear plugs etc. If you dont want to buy it then bring your own. I travel a lot and always bring my own blanket and sweater because I know it gets cold at 37,000 ft.

Flown Rouge a few times for me. Short flights I'm okay with. Did a YVR to Osaka flight pre-COVID and it was absolutely horrible. Didn't even get a warm meal. The seats on Rouge on the narrow-body aircraft are also very tight.

@goytabr

@@shabbirnaqvi1344, it's definitely NOT Asiana. Daniel wrote in the caption at 9:16 that "one of these is my connecting aircraft." There are four planes there: a Cathay Pacific, an ANA, a Korean Air and a JAL. No Asiana plane there, so it's ruled out. It could be Korean, but it's Skyteam. It could also be JAL (via Tokyo), but it's Oneworld. Hong Kong would be a too long detour to connect from Vancouver to Seoul, and Cathay is Oneworld, so it's the least likely. It could be any of the other three, but ANA (via Tokyo) is the most likely because it's Star Alliance. Daniel also said he could get this (not so) premium seat at no extra cost because his connecting flights (plural) would also be on business class. That would only be possible in the same alliance. So, everything ponts to ANA.

Flown Rouge several times r/t YVR-PHX with no issue. But this upcoming trip has been switched from AC to be operated by Omni Air, an American airline under an AC flight number.

Travel back in the day used to be where you only carried on stuff that you wanted to use on the flight like some reading material, toiletries, a jacket, and maybe some underwear. Bins then didn’t need to be that big.

Hi Dan - thanks for your review! I just wanted to add that my experiences with Rouge thus far have been a little more positive. I am very blessed that I can take "premium rouge." Is it he BEST? Well, no. But it does come with a host of perks like lounge access, 150% aeroplan points, 2x2 seating (which is a big deal to my partner and I). The flights in the bulkhead YYZ-PSP-YYZ don't have the legroom shortage (which would be annoying) that you illustrated. all in all its comfortable. I do not envy the folks sitting in economy. The dedicated lav for 24 people isn't so bad, given the only other ones serve the rest of the plane (a lot more than 48 people!) and are located at the back. Right now Air canada has the only direct flight YYZ-PSP which I travel a lot (why WestJet discontinued its direct service (collusion) I'll never know. But if you want to get certain places, direct, from YYZ, AC Rouge is only choice. Premium just makes it a bit better. Keep up the great work, Dan!

You should try regular Air Canada a220 and the 787 in business class, you should also try WestJet on the 737 and 787 in premium/business class

Regular Air Canada is excellent. Once the MAX is back and the A220's arrive they will have one of the best cabins in North America. Key to note they are using rouge on that route to cope with the loss of the MAX.

Although Rouge is more common on vacation routes than on regular domestic flights, don’t be surprised at how full it was. I fly between YVR-YYZ-YVR a lot and almost every single flight is always completely full. They fill multiple wide bodies on that route every day. But I will always always always avoid Rouge.

American's presentation of pasta dishes in domestic first class is much better than AC Rouge. Now, fruit on AA in first can be incredible. Or it can be picked too soon and hard. But I've never had frozen fruit.

Don't forget that the aircraft are being moved around due to the 737 Max mess so you won't always get the most current aircraft. The 767s will be moved out eventually. I flew AC the past week YYZ-YVR on both a 330 and 321. The 330 was not great as it was leased from TAP but the 321 was AC and was fine. The meals were great and I was in coach.

This is the thing with air Canada. They fill there planes TO THE BRIM. I went on air Canada in 2018 from Toronto to Dubai then back from Dubai to Toronto on a triple 7 and they were fully booked. I went on Toronto to Montreal early this year on a 737max8 and it was full. And a Boeing triple 7 from Toronto to Qatar wich was also full
