I would pay to have it fly over my house every day just to hear that DB engine.

***** The DB605 engine is just so utterly fantastic. The low bassy rumble with the whistle of the supercharger gives me goosebumps.

Great video! Nice view of the automatic leading edge slats in operation. The tight confines of the 109 cockpit is readily apparent, as is the limited field of view, through the heavily framed canopy. Visual tracking of EA in combat must have been challenging. Despite these and other shortcomings, the 109 was still an extremely successful combat aircraft in the hands of a competent pilot, and the favorite mount of many Luftwaffe aces...Hartmann, Barkhorn, Galland, and Rall, to name a few..

@SuperWhiteBarry Год назад
You forget the ace of all aces --> "Hans-Joachim Marseille"! By far the most talented of them all, lived to see only 23 years of age, by then having shot down 158 planes in the Western theatre! Died in 1942 bailing out of his 109 G2 Trop after an engine failure/fire.

@FLUGMUSEUM MESSERSCHMITT: please, just a question: I m 1 meter 82 cm long and when I sat into the cockpit of the BF-109 G-2 , I could not close the cockpit because I was just little too long , how this pilot could "fit" easy into that cockpit ? could you trim/regulate the high of that seat ? please tell me. Greetings from Sweden.

I was just reading though some pireps from test pilots who flew the 109 after the war and one of the quotes was something like Never take off from a paved strip, only grass and make sure there is NOTHING any where near you. If the 109 decides to take off in a different direction, thats the heading you take off on.

Sehr interessant.
@messerschmitt1936
@messerschmitt1936 10 лет назад

It looked funny and cool. Bit I haven't found that video in ages. Would that ring any bell?
