25,000 American women, many still in their teens, others in their 50s, volunteered to become WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots), all hoping to fulfil their dream of flying by serving their country in America’s time of need. They came from all walks of life, from chorus girls to farmer’s daughters, and from all parts of the country to begin training. After proving they could handle the latest fighters and the heaviest bombers, it all came to an abrupt end.
On December 20, 1944, the WASP were quietly and unceremoniously disbanded. There were no honours, no veteran’s benefits and very few thank you's. Blending WASP interviews and footage featuring restored WWII aircraft with archival film footage, still images, and commentary from a WASP historian, this important documentary captivates and inspires viewers of all ages with the remarkable true story of the WASP.

After the Army and Vietnam I worked procurement for DOD and I had two ladies who flew aircraft from some factory to the west coast to ship to the Pacific. I would look at these ladies as they were nearing retirement and tried to imagine them flying a bomber ... they had some Amazing stories, as a Screaming eagle, I usually didn't wait for my flight to land, we left early... One did tell me she considered buy a Piper Cub, but her husband frowned on that idea ... I felt so sorry for her as my dad about 1959 after the war bought a small 4 person aircraft to keep flying.

The British ATA were taking on women pilots in 1939 to do the same job, from any free countries, including the US. They took on anyone who could fly, including the disabled, eg; one armed, one legged, one eyed. There was a woman who delivered a Lancaster Bomber to an RAF airfield by herself, after she handed over the papers to squadron comander. All the men went on board to find who had flown it, the lady said "You won't find anyone else in there, it's just me"

As a little girl I was always fascinated by aviation. Amelia Earhart was an idol of mine. Then I discovered the WASPS. I'm 22 now, have many friends who are female pilots. I am not able to fly myself but my love and enthusiasm for these women and their stories has not dwindled in the slightest. These women have inspired me so much. I honestly cried watching this hearing the stories from the women themselves. Thank you to these women for their service and may they be remembered for their groundbreaking achievements.

W.A.S.P were not servicemen, they were Services Hero's! I had a good friend that was a W.A.S.P and the stories she told were amazing. They "volunteered" to be test pilots, target practice pilots and much more. Many people don't understand a womens place during those times. They broke the mold with these women!

Each is a hero and true role model. As usual our elected officials hoped each one of these veterans would pass away so they could just disappear from history. For Carter to sign the bill without one member of the WASPs present, shows how little respect was given. May GOD bless each of these true American heroes and role models.
