Flying Lufthansa's European business class: is it worth it?

In this video we take a couple of very typical short European flights in Lufthansa's business class. Most European business is just an economy seat with the middle blocked, but does that mean it's a waste of money? On an A321 flight from Stockholm to Munich and then back from Frankfurt to Stockholm on the A319, we attempt to find out.
We also take a look at what it's like to fly these days with more crowds and just as many travel restrictions to wade through, if not more complicated ones. Our advice: even if you're in business class and not checking bags, leave plenty of time at the airport.

And the lounges? It's a big part of flying in business class, so it would make sense to include them in the review.

LH Business lounges are very nice, particularly in Frankfurt, but yes, a video review would be appreciated.

LH Business Class Lounges (without status you get this) are ok but can be really packed. Don't expect the level of service you get at domestic flights of other 5 Star airlines.

Thank you! I really appreciate you recognizing gate agents because I worked as one and had to resign within a few months because of a massive amount of stress and document checks. I also got yelled at so much from people who did not have all of their documents and blamed it on the airlines website and it was a nightmare. Thank you to all those gate agents out there who have been doing this despite the pandemic and unexceptably low wages. I had collegues who worked for seven years and got a fifty cent total raise in that time. The worst part was that I worked for Swissport and Lufthansa in the US and if we sent a passenger without checking all documents and the country did not accept their documents, they would get sent all the way back with their return ticket and we loose our jobs. For that reason, I quit instead of risking making a simple mistake and getting fired for it and to look for a better career.

The problem is that they call it business. If they labeled it as economy+ or something it wouldn't be a problem.

Pre pandemic, I was a regular flyer on Lufthansa Business Class, and have no complaints regarding their offering (and I pay for my own ticket). It was good to see that the food is very similar to before, especially as I can arrive at my final destination in the early hours of the morning when food is difficult to find. I look forward to travelling once more as soon as they do something about my vaccination status - either by approval of the Astra Zeneca Indian batches, or sort out the UK certifications which at the moment can only record your first two jabs, meaning that any subsequent doses of an approved vaccine do not count - welcome to limbo land!

You don't have to "make peace" with the laughable business class seats, they're a joke, you don't even get extra legroom. Airlines need to take a note from Turkish Airlines book and provide decent business class seats, even on narrow bodied planes on short haul routes.

I flew business with Turkish once, and I loved the seat. There was so much space, that I was able to sleep with my 10 months old son mext to me, no problem.

Is this standard practice in Europe? Where business class on short haul flts is just keeping the middle seat empty? If so, that is just silly .. I understand that for operations purposes it makes sense, because they can switch the seats to economy easily when they need to, but still, not worth the money if they are charging business class ticket prices..

The issue is, this cabin product is sold as business class even on longer routes like FRA-TLV or FRA-CAI. Calling this 5 Star is a shame for other 5 Star airlines like Qatar Airways.

This has been super helpful, you've confirmed what I couldn't believe and always suspected my info is just wrong, OMG Thank you - though this is unbelievable. So is there ANY EU airline flying short-haul within Europe with "real" first-class/business seats just as it is in America? Not an economy seat with the middle seat empty but the true first class seat, with the 2-by configuration, middle table, etc - you know, what one would expect from first/business?

I flew business from MUC to Catania and back to FRA last month on an A320neo and enjoyed both flights. I agree that the service is quite nice and the staff are all friendly. Business on an A330 back home to the US was far better than the United service on a 767 on the way over to MUC. I'll take LH over United any chance I get.

0:52 it is the same at HEL, a complete zoo with lines so long, you don't know where they start and where they end and what for. A complete opposite of ZRH where everything is normal and business as usual.

U.S. carriers may offer a nicer seat and more legroom on domestic flights, but you usually won’t get meal service unless the flight is over 2-2.5 hours long. And simply having a first class ticket on a domestic flight doesn’t get you lounge access in the U.S. So, really, the only thing that makes U.S. domestic first class any better than European Business class is the seat. Otherwise, you get more on European carriers.

The blocked middle seat buys you privacy, more so than the plush North American domestic first class seat. For business travelers that have confidential paperwork to review, the European b-class seats make flying time more productive.

Not with business seats sometimes costing more than twice economy. I'm sorry uncomfortable and narrow seats in business class is a strong disadvantage considering this.

@@ginama3162 agreed: you'd expect a correlation between comfort and price paid... However, the premium you pay for Intra-European b-class is largely tied to the flexibility that you buy, particularly on main business routes : the option to return one hour earlier (double the time you spend with your family awake) or one hour later (finish important business). This value needs to be restored quickly in the COVID world by reintroducing flight frequency. Not easy for as long as overall demand remains low. Buying an Intra-European b-class seat also comes with a premium for last minute availability. Airlines take a 'capacity risk' by saving seats that may go unsold. Business travelers that need flexibility value that availability. Their alternative is flying on a business jet...so to them the b-class fare is actually a bargain!

Flying Economy within Asia is much better than that so called "Business Class" within Europe Compare that 2h flight and a 2h flight in Business Class BKK-SIN! Youll see this so called "5* Business Class" is a joke.
