Flying my Sony a7S3 on an FPV drone. 

Never thought I'd see the day where I put my baby on one of these drones, I'm keen to see what results a fixed sensor camera will give me. I did try Sony Catalyst software but had bad results, even worse in fact even with IBIS off. However some people seem to have had good results with this too. But I'm glad I went through all this to help you get the upper hand when looking at cine lifters. Please read the comments below as some people have been super helpful with great information on this topic. We are getting back into the regular travel content next week! and I'm so excited to show you what I've been working on!

real talk. @10:22 no go IBIS on cinelifters. loose sensors. @10:42 need fixed sensor like BM pocket 6k/4k. @11:09 big to carry/ extra batteries heavy. @12:21 built in gps. can return to home if setup in beta flight first.

That's pretty cool. I own a sony a7c and I'd be too scarred to strap it to a drone. My a6400 I don't mind breaking but losing a full frame camera would crush my soul.

I hope someone tell me? but I am not sure why all that drone footage looks like it's 10 frames per second not 24 or 30, looks relly poor to me. The video is good, was fun to watch. I hope you are ok in Australia, the world is with you on you fight for freedom

Awesome footage you achieved there! It looks a little soft though. Maybe this is because of diffraction blur because you stopped all the way down to F22?! I would love to see how it comes out when turning off stabilization, increasing shutter speed and using catalyst browse for post stabilization!

Hey Ben! Have you tried stabilising your footage on Sonys Catalyst software? I use the Sony FX3 on the TaurusX8 and also have some vibrations coming through to the camera but got butter smooth footage after gyro stabilization! IBIS has to be turned off for it to work though.

as someone who has gone through this exact process, i can say that the sony is absolutely not the best option for flight just yet. Good on you for allowing us to see your failure as well as your moderate success. It really helps the community to be so honest.

I have been flying the A7SIII on a X8 quad with my friend Ivan Merino and the shots came out super smooth on the first try! Image stab switched on! I don't think that the IBIS is the issue!? 🤔

Hey mate, you should try out using Gyroflow to stabilise the footage, it may produce some great results. You can either use your FC or a gopro for the gyro data

I also have the Taurus x8, been flying it stock with a zcam and love it. It's unfortunate that IBIS causes such crazy vibrations as the a7s3 is gorgeous. I would recommend loosening the rubber buffers again if you put a fixed sensor camera on it. Even though it helped with the sony, having those so tight is actually mitigating their effectiveness for a fixed sensor camera, should you eventually put one on top! Great video and looking forward to seeing more!

Hey Benn. I flown my Sony a7siii w/ 16-35 f2.8. I did get some great results with it after putting alpha gel on the mount. It worked with catalyst browse.

I really need to put my Arri Alexa on a FPV now.

I can't remember the name but I've seen those gyro modules that can be installed on a cameras hot-shoe and plugged via the audio jack that do wonders in post stabilization, can't really remember the name but if you manage to find that out it would be worth a try.

Sucks because RED footage looks so DAMN GOOD on the x8. I would probably be too nervous to fly my expensive a7S III and lenses anyway. Footage out of a Mavic 3 is suitable for most.

Shooting at F22 it seems like there's no sharpness at all. I mean.... glad you got the vibration stuff sorted but it still looks very soft at F22. Get some ND filters and film around F4-F8.

The footage don't look good for me, very blurry, funny white, even with the gopro footage. What kind of settings did you make that was so fuzzy?

Hey Benn, great video as always. Just a quick tip: you may have better results turning off all active stabilisation and using Sony catalyst to stabilise the footage in post. As you know, the A7SIII has a gyroscopic sensor, so if you turn off all active stabilisation, the exact off-centre movements relative to the axis will be recorded onto the sensor. Warp stabiliser makes a guess as what those adjustments need to be, but Sony Catalyst will be able to do it precisely. Good luck!

Have you tried using Gyro Flow to counteract all the movements minor vibrations? It uses your gyro data from the flight controller. There is also a patch that allows you to include the mounted camera angle too

Love the result but I think I'll just stick with FPV mode on the DJI drones. They produce similar results and are a lot lighter

its not the best Camera for a Cinelifter , but IBIS can be fixed, there is a mount for it to lock it inside the sensor P.S: Warranty will be voided!!!! , also yes frame adjustments + Tune , get a ZCam , BGH1 , BMPCC4k or RED Komodo and enjoy!

12:53 It actually has 8, one for each motor, but they are divided in 2 identical boards (2x 4in1 ESCs). And no, this is not a safety feature or redundancy to "bring it home" in case one of the boards blow up mid-flight. If for some reason one of the 4in1 ESC boards blows mid-flight, it means you instantly will lose half your motors (4 pointing up or 4 pointing down), and obviously half your thrust. I highly doubt a 4in1 ESC would just blow and simply exclude itself from the equation - meaning its nearly impossible it would not cause a short on the battery, nor stop feeding voltage to your FPV video transmitter, reboot the FC and so on. And, even if it does, to keep it flying with half thrust on a full payload would be, let's say, "challenging".

You need bigger motors and esc for cinelifters. Them puny 2806.5 aint cutting it for anything but slow forward flight in no wind. Also solid choice on the Woodkid, seen him at Coachella, was awsome!
