This was captured in 2014 - the early days of drones, before the FAA published most of their rules we're familiar with now. Indeed, I'd guess the software in most drones, even the small ones you mention, would stop you from taking off that close to the airport today. But at that time, there really weren't many no-fly zones. Nevertheless, I was careful even then to remain under 400 feet and always fly with caution.
