I trust that any owner pilot can accept a donation or a sharing of the operating expenses of the flight ,as long as the pilot/owner isn’t accepting payment to fly and or operate his aircraft

I think Charles is not well informed.. 91 owner can allow a 135 use aircraft as charter when they are not using hence the term OWNERS APPROVAL by most 135..

If I am not mistaken a part 135 operator can still conduct flights as 91, but not vice versa; as the requirements for part 135 ops are more stringent. This depends more on the operator having the part 135 certificate. Owner's approval is just something the actual owner (not always the operator) adds in for when they charter out their aircraft when they are not using it. While I have seen some interesting cases of flights being conducted under part 91, I have never seen businessjet chartered out comercially as such- this falls into a legal gray area. You are right that many owners have owner's approval in their clause for chartering their aircraft to offset operating costs, I remain skeptical that this happens under part 91 ops.
