THIS IS A SPECIAL ONE! We're flying on the BAE146, or RJ85, depending on your persuasion. We'll be on board an Aer Lingus flight that's operated by City Jet.
Throughout the video we'll go 'under the skin' checking out what's behind those aircraft interiors, using the static display on the RJX at the Manchester Airport Aviation Viewing Park.
It's a new take on a trip report, so i would love to hear your thoughts on this type of video, and of course what you thought of the trip!

This 'go under the skin' technique on your video, is interesting and nice ❣️👌🏼 Well idea 😃 I fly 1999 from Berlin to London in this type of jet. Isn't roomy inside, but for short trips okay. Love from Berlin 🇩🇪 Ramsi 😘

I spent six months commuting MAN-DUB in 2001 with Aer Lingus (plus a few hops to Jersey when BA's ATPs had problems) and loved the space, quietness and performance of the BAe146/RJ. At 5:16 and 7:01, your music was playing over the very distinctive sound of the change in airflow as the flaps deploy then retract - like a jet aircraft decelerating and accelerating! Happy memories if a very stable and enjoyable aircraft - which is now finding new users in Canada, where the HS/BAe overengineering is most useful on gravel strips and for airborne fire-tankers. Thanks for this very useful video

Flew about one of these in May of 2004 from FTW to FWA it was a blast, and due to the NWA Pilot Contract, we had 5 abreast in Economy which were the widest Coach seats flying in the USA at the time. Only a/c that come close since has been th 2 by 2 Embraer 170 series and 190 series. Those aboard jetBlue were reminiscent of the BAE 146 at 5 across seats.

Oh I wish I could have flown on one with that reduced config! They’re quite tight in a 3 3! I hear a few are now flying in Canada

What an awesome report my friend. Incredible detailed. I loved all the information and thought you put into the video. It's great. Lovely shots and entertaining throughout the entire video. Keep it up! Definitely a very interesting plane, pretty cool wing arrangement and those shots from the terminal were killer! Thanks for sharing!

Back in the early 2000's, Northwest Airlines flew these between Minneapolis and Aspen as a seasonal flight for people going to the mountains for some recreational skiing. Always liked to see something more interesting than your everyday twinjet when planespotting!

Before they were retired by Swiss, I was sometimes lucky enough to fly on one of these between Manchester and Zurich. I think that they were probably one of my all time favourite aircraft and I was so so sad to see them go. If I could, I would try to select a flight where one of these was flying. Swiss had them configured 2+3, so they felt quite spacious and were very quick to fully board and get going. Although the fitted airstairs were quite narrow.
@JTsJourneys

I always wanted to try the Swiss one, i remember watching them go in and out of Manchester. The 2 3 sounds much more comfortable than the 3 3. I don't think there are any left in Europe flying with commercial passengers now

You CAN'T now any longer, unfortunately all across the world, now they have sadly all been retired! I missed out! I thought surely I still can get a chance to fly in one of them. But NO, I fucking missed out - forever! I always wanted to fly in one of these birds. (I only found out through Wikipedia (Tuesday, 11 May, 2021), that ALL civil flights with these BAe 146s have been retired, so sad, argh, and really greatly MOTHERFUCKING PISSES ME OFF to no end!!!)

@@JTsJourneys Yes, my favourite was the 146-300 which I crewed in the middle east. It had a very smart cabin with mega legroom. It's a shame the 146/RJ wasn't developed further.

I like how the Avro Regional Jets/CityJet painted BOTH 🇮🇪🇪🇺 on the sides of the aircraft next to the registration - it shows how Ireland is an important member of the EU :) I wish Aer Lingus did the same thing - they only have the Irish flag on their fleet. Do you think Aer Lingus will paint the EU flag onto their fleet next to the Irish flag someday?
@JTsJourneys
@JTsJourneys 2 года назад
I think it very much depends on how the airline wants to be seen, for example city jet offered flights throughout Europe and Aer Lingus tend to be primarily focused on the Irish routes.

So it doesn't come with a reverse power built in, right?
@JTsJourneys

I don't believe so, I think breaking is just with physical and air breaks, with a huge air break at the back where the rear of the aircraft splits open.
@mikehindson-evans159

Nope, just bl**dy great spoilers across the length of the wing. Tge 146 and RJ took off like a Harrier and could land anywhere. The sound of the airflow over the flaps retracting and deploying is such a distinctive noise from past flights.
