Welcome to part 4 of the Africa Adventure series in which Gabe now heads from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to Johannesburg, South Africa - on yet another Embraer ERJ-145. This time we're flying Fastjet, the easyJet of Africa as some have called it. Big surprise: this low-cost airline beats the service offerings of most so-called full service airlines in the US and Europe, with free snacks and drinks and a fresh and clean cabin. Watch the video to see all about the experience from the lounge at Victoria Falls International Airport to a bonus visit to the Viewing Area at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport, plus a mystery Iranian Government aircraft sighting.

Two comments: YES, a truly great snack box actually one of the best I have seen. Second, I CAN NOT believe the size of sprawling JO-BURG. I too really like the Embraer 145RJ. It is the largest of the group of three and kind of makes me feel like it is my private jet. Thanks - Jim

Those are South African Airways A340-600's, but a few of them were sold to an American company, but most of them are still owned by SAA and are in storage. I hope the return some of them to service, it is one of my favorite aircraft.

Ok Chief l am glad you enjoyed the Fastjet experience from the Zim side of Vic Falls to Jozi. To answer your questions about the 2 x Airbus A 340's you see there. They are owned by Global Airways and they are for Lease (ACMI).

I believe those are 3 x A340-500's ex Emirates, now owned by Global Aviation Services. They have been parked at JNB for many years and are very unlikely to fly again in my opinion.

Didn't you guys talk about those A340s on the podcast last year or so? I remember something about them originally being delivered to somewhere like Uzbekistan, then they would squawk somewhere above Iran and land there, be declared lost, and that's the end of the story...

The A340s were previously owned by Turkish Airlines. They were mothballed at OR Tambo airport for a while then flown to Iran. They are now in operation with Iran Air. I tracked their flight on FlightRadar 24 earlier this year. In Africa, most airlines offer a meal/snack. The tickets are really highly-priced anyway (even for "low-cost carriers") and it is only fair that the airlines offer passengers "complimentary snacks". If you do not mind disclosing, how much did you pay for the 90-minute flight from Victoria Falls to O.R Tambo? Fastjet started its African chapter in Tanzania but pulled out of that market after operating for a couple of years.

The fully flex fare on this was $245 USD (needed something flexible because changing was likely). That seemed like a very fair price! Here in Europe airlines will gladly charge you $500 then an extra $6 for water onboard 😂

Iran Air doesn't fly A340s. These are A340-500s, which Turkish Airlines never operated.

It's the 14th largest city by area in the world, and 28th by population. To me that certainly qualifies as massive.

@@airedition not a chance. Johannesburg by land mass is nowhere near 14th position. In any case I was talking about the buildings at the time stamp and how narrator said it's a "massive city". United Nations puts Johannesburg in 73rd place out of 81. And it doesn't appear on the lists of Arch daily or luxatic. In any case coming out at 14th place can't be considered amazing by any stretch of the imagination.
