My, how things have changed at Lauda. I first flew on the original Lauda Air in business class LGW-VIE-SIN-SYD in 1997. LGW to VIE was on a 737 I think. The pilot that particular morning was Mr Niki Lauda. The flight from Vienna was a Boeing 767. This was before the introduction of lie flat seats but still very comfortable. Not at all like the Lauda of today.
5:12 I love the old Lauda liveries. Niki Lauda said his airplanes had to look a certain way like a good looking car. It was admirable how personal he took the Lauda004 767-300ER thrust reverser crash and was determined to find what happened, especially after having his crazy car crash.
I flew Lauda return this week. Apart from narrow galley. Flight was good aircraft clean and looked well maintained. Seats were hard bases though i agree. But mostly for me you could feel well piloted. Thats what counts. Id say 6/10 for a budget airlone.
I flew Lauda twice on their Helsinki - Vienna route last November. The return ticket price was just 50€ which is pretty great compared to Finnair’s 200€ for example. In my case the seats felt fine but my tray table was broken on both flights so thats what theyll need to get fixed lol. Apart from that the crew was nice and I left with a mostly positive impression 🤷🏻♂️ I also like the livery. Very retro and cool.
On point!! Never flown on Lauda but recently had an underwhelming experience flying on Ryanair from Berlin to Spain. Again, as you rightly mentioned that “boarding not boarding” policy is the worse. What’s the point? In my case the plane that was supposed to fly us to our destination was on approach to Bologna as the airport screen display was literally showing boarding now, followed by final call for my flight , bearing in mind the plane still had to turnaround and fly back to Germany before taking us to Spain. At this point I thought maybe in order to minimize the delay they had swapped aircrafts, and that the app used to track flights hadn’t been updated. Well, the app was correct so why make us believe the flight would actually leave on time, no announcements or mention of a delay were made, they boarded as per the original departure time, we were all packed in a pre-boarding area with no access to restrooms, no seating, or access to terminal facilities (coffee shops, convenience stores, charging points, etc )for almost an hour and half, then walked to the aircraft which was a free for all, despite priority boarding, which at this point didn’t mean anything, and meant that the bins were all filled up, and made to wait for another 20 minutes on the tarmac in front of the aircraft which obviously was nowhere near ready to board again. I get the delay, I get that my expectations should be low when comparing this to other carriers, but why make it so unpleasant for all parties involved … and take it for granted that people would just accept it. Also, not as low cost as one might think, it was actually more expensive than fly on a regular airline (LH/LX) the only thing was that I thought it would be easier to fly nonstop rather than via other airlines hubs. After this experience, I ll gladly spend more time getting to my destination rather than put up with that nonsense. It seems to be a pattern, not the one off, and as you mentioned, their modus operandi. Enjoy beautiful Mallorca!!!
You should have taken Luftansa and paid hundreds more in euros. Then they would tske you through Frankfurt with a layover and you would get to Spain about 7 houts later then on Lda.. and guess what - it would have been the same aircraft type A320 that even has the very same seats... oh yeah, the traytable would have been better... did you ever wonder why the difference in price? You really want the VIP treatment for 10 times less money? Not a realistic expectation...
Did I ask for VIP treatment at any point? What I expect on EVERY flight regardless of price is decent passenger-oriented policies and functional, not broken seats. That is actually very realistic and reasonable! Also, why are you so worked up about this?
@@airedition i am just saying that you would have the same seat if you paid your ticket 10 times more with one of the legacy cariers. Ok, the tray table would probobly be fixed. I think you are being unrealistic in you expectation as if you are to do a video comparing the Tesla car with the Renault Zoe.. see no point in doing it.. as long as there is a price difference there will always be people buyin cheap and others wanting to be treated special.. and not addmiting it..
@@airedition if you evaluate it has to be done against a certain approved standard. What was your standard in evaluation? Low cost against dreamliner? Ok, maybe not but evaluation without the standard would be like saying:"I went to the moon and you know it was soo terrible there.. but I did not compare it to anything it is just terrible on it's own". As if you don't know Earth.. Ok, I will stop this back and forth thing now but I think if you can not accept some criticizm for the work you are doing on RU-vid maybe you should stop producing...
@@EN-oh7mz I'm happy to take criticism; what I won't stay quiet for is when someone talks down to me, uses sarcasm, and misrepresents or misunderstands what I'm doing/saying - all of which you did. The "standard in evaluation" is obviously other flights on low cost airlines; I never had expectations of "VIP treatment", any particular special perks, free things, nothing like that. Like I already said, I expected a working seat. And I found the experience lacking. And that's not even getting into the fact that I paid quite a bit for this flight (Lufthansa was not 10x more, no, not even 2x). What is this bizarre moon travel analogy you're trotting out!? You seem oddly invested in defending Lauda, and I can't really figure out why! Yes, probably best if you just stop.
Know lauda air during the. 90 when we shared the same hotel in Sri Lanka.. Was a strong system even for the FA. But the B 767 300 had a nice interior. Long ago.... Kai
Everyone says the same thing, I will never fly again with Ryanair or in this case with Lauda and then, everyone flies back again, and I assure you that you'll do it again. What do you use as a basis for evaluating the plane? In my opinion, you must either be an Aeronautical Engineer or a Pilot to do this. The Cabin Crew was observed to be very kind to your children. Don't expect Emirates food for the price you paid with Ryanair. Ryanair is the European airline that spends the most on the maintenance of its aircraft and for me that is the most important thing, flying on a safe airline. As for everything else, if you want more, you will have to pay more. Best
What you say is quite true about people claiming they'll never fly with an airline again, and then probably eventually flying with them again anyway. As for the state of the aircraft however, I only mean the interior condition - it was perfectly airworthy of course, I never had any doubt as to its safety.
Personally I quite like Lauda compared to some of the other LCCs like Wizz having had a few good flights now. However I have heard many horror stories and all of my flights have had at least 1 last-minute equipment change!
Great vid as always, hope your channel takes off like the flightradar24 channel! I'm curious, how are you a Swede? Are you an American naturalised Swede or American with Swedish parents?
Both? The add on at the end of this video piqued my interest enough to wonder more about Mallorca. It makes me think about the video with Madeira Spotting-sure it was going around the airport but similar in that much of the video wasn’t about the flight
I have a love and hate relationship with these planes. They are bad, nonetheless I fly quite often with Lauda A320s. I'm based in Austria and they already took me to Lithuania, Germany, Spain und Latvia for crazy low prices. Next flight to Zadar, Croatia this summer. Was also having a short flight from Vienna to Bucharest with Austrian last year...no difference in service except they could speak German, but at a much higher price.
Seriously how can you compare the two different flights ? That's like me comparing Emirates to Dubai 🇦🇪 & Ryanair to Bulgaria 🇧🇬 no comparison 😳 a tad harsh on Lauda air you pay for what you get & of course it's airworthy 🤣
Which comparison are you talking about? I love how everyone always says “you get what you pay for” as if low cost airlines should be exempt from criticism because they’re cheap. Nope, I think we should still call them out.
Last time you did it was Swiss Air in business class you said or your previous flight on a Dreamliner that's the comparison. Lauda is ok for a low cost European flight I've flown with them a few times & it's typical Ryanair cheap & cheerful. I bet you would of paid double if not more on another carrier. I found the seats very comfortable compared with the 737- 800's, Ryanair's Max 8's are the most comfortable tho. 👍😊
Right but I never said I was comparing them. I just said that’s what I did last time, to set up that this was a totally different type of trip. I’m glad you had good flights with them.
I just came home from a trip to malta and back with Lauda. I have to say i will probably never ever in my life seat on any boeing because flying with A320 was absolutely amazing. Last year i was flying with 737-800 and it was terrible experience. Never ever ryanair and their shitbox boeing. If ryanair than Lauda. Not to mention that boeing land like a fricking cow and airbus lands so soft that you hardly notice you are on the ground.
