If my dad were still alive, he'd love this vid. It would sure bring back memories...some great, some sad re WW2, over New Guinea. But he said, like the goony bird, it was a great machine to fly.
I remember seeing one of these crash near Youngstown, Ohio in 1962. I think the wing fell off in mid flight killing all 11 on board. Haven't see these beautiful birds in the sky since the 70s. I remember I was only about 4 years old but that memory is etched in my mind.
September 04, 1962 - N1000F owned by Ashland oil. Nose down trim runaway caused excessive speed which tore off the wing. Two crew and 11 passengers died.
Usto ride in a Loadstar crop-duster that a mate of mine flew. Carried 3.5 tons. It was an aero plane you really needed to be on your metal carrying carrying 3.5 toms payload at below 500ft. Great airplane really for its day. But it wasn't designed for fools. retired CPL
Is there anywhere I could possible download a cockpit simulator for both the Lodestar and also a C47 (DC3)? My father flew both those planes in WW2 while in the RAAF. It's more to see what he actually did in the plane on the daily flight basis. Just curious. And if I had to buy both programs what would likely be the cost of them?

When I worked on the ambulance in LA back around 1970, my boss was telling me of the Lodestar he lost in a crash landing in Baja California some years before. They crash landed on a beach. The Lodestar was used as an air ambulance and was flying back to LA. The plane was left there on the beach and was replaced by a Twin Beech Super 18. I had flown in that plane quite a few times and also on the King Air he had for ambulance transfer flights. I would have loved to have flown in the Lodestar.
