The Iranian F-14 was recently available in a War Thunder Event and I finally had a chance to sit down and fly it. It is very similiair to the already exisiting F-14A in the U.S. Tech Tree with some pretty wild armament differences. Besides your typically selection of Sidewinders, Sparrows, and Phoenixs... you get the R-27R-1 and some home made Iranian armament. I hope you enjoy the video and thank you so much to Zuit, Hambone, and Stickboy for joining me in these flyouts!

Do you think my neighbors would be upset if I randomly started parking Fighter Jets in my front yard? Clarkson parked a Lighting in his front yard... what would you want to own as a gate guardian?

He is taking an interesting view on the Texas Revolution. Texas got their ass kicked on numerous occasions. The US supplied the Texas army with weapons and munitions. About 10% of the Texas army were volunteers from the US, after the US did a big recruiting campaign. Texans like to act like they kicked ass and took names but the reality is they got lucky and were against a wall (the Gulf coast).

Iran did have a contract for F-15s, and at least two were produced. Neither had been delivered to Iran prior to the weapons embargo placed on the country as a result of the Islamic Revolution. One of the sticking points in the negotiations over the release of the embassy hostages was the US refused to either deliver the military goods or return the money that had been paid. The two Iranian F-15s sat on the tarmac outside the Macdonell Douglas factory in St. Louis for years, as they were technically the property of Iran but could not be delivered to the country.

AND Is the reason Tom Cruise had to CGI his F-14 over a F-18 in Top Gun 2. If it wasn’t for Iran’s coup Top Gun 2 could have had a real F-14 flying in it
@ICECAPPEDSKY
@ICECAPPEDSKY 17 дней назад
Well it’s also because unlike many retired fighters that can be owned by citizens the F14 is not one of them. Many parts of the aircraft were and still are classified so they can’t be owned or sold by citizens. So essentially every US F14 sat in a museum has either been stripped of at the time classified technology by the government before becoming a static display or they just through lack of maintenance became permanently grounded in a museum. The electronics/engines/hydraulics have sat for soo long they just don’t work and there’s very few spare parts to even fix them. So really you can blame the government for that.
@fazsum41
@fazsum41 17 дней назад
@@ICECAPPEDSKY nope its because of the embargo on Iran and nothing more. Fighter jets can be owned by civilians and not just vintage ones. If it was based on what you said then no one would be flying jets outside the military. The F-16 is one such jet in civilian hands teaching pilots in the US, a Panavia Tornado has made its way into US hands being brought the flight, the F-104 star fighter amongst other jets ranging from the Korean war to Gulf war flies in private hands and used for experiments. If a retired military aircraft is not allowed to fly in private hands it is because of embargo’s on such nations like Iran and/or because of the airframes are no longer safe which is not the case for the US because they ensure they take aircraft out of service and stored to either be put back in service or for resale hence the boneyards. The F-14 is not allowed to fly due to Iran. Period.
@johnroscoe2406
@johnroscoe2406 17 дней назад
@@fazsum41 Nope.
@user-lo3lh5bf1o
@user-lo3lh5bf1o 12 дней назад
@@fazsum41 It's more complicated that what you and @icecappedsky are saying. U.S. adversary companies can buy these military aircraft because they are generally from other countries. IAI Kfirs, Mirage F1's, Israeli F-16s, Swedish Drakens, and the list goes on. But to buy former U.S. fighters, that are fairly modern, you have to have an act of Congress to approve it. For example, the F-4 that the Collings Foundation has was one of those, and Snort tried to do the same with an F-14. The U.S. has retired a bunch of F-15/F-16/F-18, but, you don't see them flying around in private hands. On another note, F-14's that made it to museums have all seemed to have different ways of being demilled. Lots of them had the ejection seats and avionics pulled. The one local to me still has seats in it, but, no engines. They all vary.
@fazsum41
@fazsum41 17 дней назад
FYI Iran coup switching from Imperial to Islamic Republic is why no F-14 and no F4 Phantom)”(yes i know there is only 1 civilian flying F4) operate in civilian service. The british had to scrap most of FGR Phantom’s and those they stayed intact had to be completely gutted of its internals and destroyed to prevent Iran getting hold of them. That coup completely destroyed western and Iran relations and destroyed any chance of having F-14’s, F-4’s and other aircraft from being owned in civilian life to fly in the airshow circuits around the world. At most the nations that are friendly to the west will fly them to airshows like RIAT in the UK but on for static display and not aerobatics.

Loved the history lesson as much as the gameplay. Interestingly, Navy pilots in Desert Storm rarely (if ever) faced Iraqi aircraft; partly this was due to USAF AWACS diverting F-15s to get the kills (or so certain Navy pilots claim), but it's also believed that whenever an F-14 radar was detected, Iraqi pilots turned around and went the other way - a lesson learned from the Iran/Iraq War.

CSB: Dad flew helicopters in Vietnam & was an instructor pilot between tours. When he got out of the Army in '74 he worked for Bell Helicopter Textron (now just Bell) first as a test pilot, then in '77 as an instructor pilot on a 5-year contract to the Iranian Air Force. The rest of the fam was supposed to move over there in fall of '78, we all got inoculated for EVERYTHING, even shipped a bunch stuff over that summer, including several footlockers full of our clothes & household stuff. Needless to say we did NOT move to Iran & the only things we ever got back were several _empty_ footlockers 😒

That made us realize “They can’t fly them now. We cannot allow it”. And they couldn’t fly because we took all the components out of them before they could fly.
