Flying to the Arctic - La Compagnie A321LR to the Northernmost Airport

I flew on La Compagnie A321neo all business class special chartered flights from Paris to Svalbard.
Svalbard Airport is the main airport serving Svalbard in Norway. It is 5 km (3.1 mi) northwest of Longyearbyen on the west coast and is the northernmost airport in the world with scheduled public flights.
This is not a scheduled flight but a chartered flight for Ponant, a luxury cruise company. The charter was arranged and managed by LunaJets. There are just 76 lie-flat business class seats onboard the La Compagnie A321neo. Take a look at the amazing scenic approach from the cockpit into Svalbard. Once I landed in Svalbard, I explore the isolated airfield and terminal before flying back.

Eh, SAS and Norwegian Air Shuttle operates 737 every day to Svalbard Airport Longyearbyen from mainland Norway. To land and take off for them is just as booring as me driving to the local store in my Tesla here in the Arctic 😂

Great vlog as always Sam! Cool that you got to fly to LYR. First time I was there was in 1988. The airport was built in 1975. Before that they landed on the Tundra in Advent valley. BU was the first airline to do so in 1959 with a DC-4, LN-SUP. Then with DC-6s, Fokker F-27, F-28 and 737-200s! SAS/SK got the right to fly in 1975. BU also got to fly to/from LYR in the fall of 1987. Keep up the good work. Be safe!

Great video Sam!! Longyearbyen sure is special. An interesting tidbit is that the Svalbard archipelago is subject to separate immigration controls than the rest of Norway (more specifically, the lack thereof). Foreigners don't need a visa to travel to Svalbard and anyone can settle there after meeting some requirements proving they are able to stay there and find work.
