Small world! You photographed it really well - I get drawn to the books and then find I have only recorded bits and pieces of the building - it's so large. Still, I hope the bits of video/photos I made will remind you of a happy visit.
This time I remembered to show some of the shelves of books close enough so you could read the book spines. It's something I desperately want to do when someone is presenting on Booktube - I'm intrigued by the book spines behind them!
Yes, I'm trying to get better at filming in bookshops. I normally go in, thinking to film and then get absorbed by the books. Glad you enjoyed it. I strongly believe in showing what a book looks like inside or reading a snippet - so infuriating when someone holds up a fascinating book and then puts it down without showing more than the cover. That's when you feel the difference of not being there in person.
Memento Mori was the cat's pyjamas. The Third Policeman I didn't get through because it was very dark - a nasty murder near the start and the characters didn't engage me. But I do love Flann O'Brien's articles of absurd humour.
have you begun it? I would expect to hear good things. I've had to pause on buying the other 2 books because once you start reading them, they absorb you.
I've got a whole pile of 'humor' books as possible contenders for my May of the Moderns TBR, and Third Policeman would fit if you're interested in joining in! It can be hard to align with humor from a century ago, however, I've found...!
Thanks Margaret! I'll have a go at reading it in the first week in May. I've just read the start and it seems a bit grim, so hoping the humour comes in soon.
LOVE Leakey's!! Finally getting round to watching my loooong Watch Later list--oof! Yes--strategery is necessary when 20 minutes is the budget! Ah, I spy Mary Webb in the first 10 Penguins! So marvelous to think she was better known once upon a time. 🤗
@@heathergregg9975 so I’ve only read precious bane but I’d say: descriptive, emotional, naturalistic, cathartic. She reminds me in some way of Hardy, in some ways of Hurston. Ripe for TV, also!
Have you ever read, 'Man on a Donkey' by HFM Prescott (Hilda Francis Margaret)? It was deals with The Pilgrimage of Grace. It inspired Hilary Mantel and Frank Cotterill Boyce said it was the most immersive book he had ever read. I can highly recommend it, as it will pull you straight into the Tudor world. and you won't forget it easily.
