On 6 June 2019, U.S. Air Force C-130J Super Hercules aircraft from the U.S. Air Force 37th Airlift Squadron, based at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, conducted flyovers across Normandy to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and pay tribute to the thousands who never came home, as well as honoring the few veterans who are still with us today.
The 37th AS traces their lineage to D-Day, where they served as the 37th Troop Carrier Squadron and flew the C-47 aircraft which were vital to the success of the airborne campaign of nearly 900+ C-47s who dropped 20,000 men behind enemy lines to begin the invasion to liberate France from the Nazis.
Each C-130 was painted in D-Day stripes too, with a giant 'W7' painted on each fuselage in remembrance of the "Whiskey 7" markings they wore on D-Day.
I was incredibly honored to join & produce imagery of their aircraft over numerous symbolic landmarks, including the Normandy American Cemetary, Omaha and Utah Beaches, Iron Mike DZ, Pointe Du Hoc and a few others, as well as a Presidential flyover.
My sincere thanks to the USAF in Europe & the 86th Airlift Wing / 37th AS for bringing me on for their missions marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
