Fully Alive and Again are worth checking out. Edit: That isn't Lacey Sturm, that is their second singer Kristen May. But the band did do a cover of NIN's "Something I Can Never Have" with Lacey.
The vocal doubling and harmony I feel was to replicate the previous flyleaf sound with Lacy Sturm. I think Kristen may is amazing. I like Lacy too. Both great vocalist.
As others already have said, the singer here is Kristen May. Not Lacey. Lacey left after the third album and so far I believe all Flyleaf songs you have reacted to have been from the forth album with Kristen. I know it's not you who decides the picks and the queue is long but I think it would be more interesting doing one song each from the first three albums as Flyleaf developed their sound quite a bit between each and doing multiple songs from just one doesn't really give them the proper credit.
Kristen May is a fantastic singer. She has a beautiful voice. But her songwriting ability just isn’t there. All of her songs tend to be poppy and radio-friendly, and to me and probably the vast majority of Flyleaf fans, totally unfitting. Flyleaf was born to be emo. Lacey’s lyrics are poetic, emotion-inducing, from a place of darkness and passion. Her songs are her story. People actually hated Kristen, and I can’t confirm, but I read somewhere, either on wiki or on a post from the band made by the guitarist, that she had death threats and hate mail against her a lot, which ultimately led to her leaving, which is really disappointing. Her lyrics may not have really fit the Flyleaf story, but she was still an undeniably great singer. I do look forward to the future of the band more that Lacey and Josh have returned. I’m excited both for her solo work and Flyleaf.
Kristen May is an extremely talented artist. Her voice is amazing. She definitely did not deserve any hate. I do agree that as a lyracist/song writer, this may be where she did not quite fit in with flyleaf. An example of this is the song "traitor." The hook was Absolutely amazing but the verse felt forced and lazy. The verse should of been rewritten to fit the music better. I have gone back to listen to between the stars, and this album had so much potential to have half an album of potential singles.. Kristen did a great job on the Album regardless.
@@bbanditt agreed. It really is a decent album. It just doesn’t feel like a Flyleaf album. Not to repeat myself, but again, it feels more pop-rock than emo. But musically it’s still solid if it’s the style the listener likes.
