Flymaniacs are back! This time Niklaus Bauer and John Kärki are hunting for big chub with fly. It is super urban yet beautiful style of fly fishing. Remember to look what you have behind the corner and appreciate all the species we have.
Awesome to see. Reminds me if my youth when we couldnt afford to catch trout in the UK we’d fly fish for chub and dace. We’d use dry fly, crayfish and pin fry streamers for chub. I think they are much harder to stalk and catch than trout. All those roaming eyes in the shoal! I once heard them called fish of a thousand eyes!
So many chub where I live & regularly catch them when targeting trout, 60+cm chub on #4 - #6 rods can take a bit of time to land. I used chub fishing to train my daughter in fly fishing as they are by far the easiest species to catch on the fly down here.
Thanks for making this unique video. Last time I watched it I put an orange ear plug on a hook. I thought it would work to add a dropper to it. I have not used my ear plug fly yet. I like to see ultra talented anglers take it to the next level. It makes me happy to see the advancement of the the sport of fly fishing.
chub give great sport, no matter what the weather's like. they're very shy so you mustn't spook them. my fave fish - the local river is full of them, to 60cm or so
@@assyntflyfishing Its better to have som thread on the hook, attach the plug and then have a point where you tie it in the front, and of course some glue. Otherwise, the ear plug will go off the hook when you casting.
Its easier to target them on fly when its lower water and warmer temperature. But you have the chance of trophys in the beginning of the season. Heavy fish.
