Someone needs to educate the FMCSA on the "driver shortage" crisis in the US. The "driver shortage" is a shortage of drivers who will drive for the cheap rates we now have. The mega carriers have filled the FMCSA with the lies about the "driver shortage" because they need a constant supply of new victims. And this trend will absolutely lead to less safety on the roads as the older, more experienced drivers leave the occupation and they are replaced by these new and quickly trained drivers.
If we actually had a driver shortage, the truck stops wouldn't be filled up at 5pm and owner operators could get loads anywhere for $5+ per mile. The driver shortage is propaganda spewed by corporate executives and lobbyists to drive rates down and flood the industry with cheap labor.
