I own the Gnarly and purchased the SST last season and had them powdercoated in a crome like finish thats good to 2500 degrees. It keeps the heat in the pipe and promotes more exhaust flow. I use to own a Fatty but since the Gnarly and SST came out and 85% of my races are GNCC and other enduro races I had to get the power in the bottom and mid range. SST is like Flomasters principal, to get the exhaust gases out faster so the engine can scavenge more fresh air at a higher rate. Awsome products
The type of sound that comes from any pipe is always a personal preference, but I can tell you that the best option for performance is usually to match the pipe with the header by brand. So I would recommend the FMF Pipe and FMF Silencer. I do like the sound of the FMF exhaust.
It depends on what kind of racing you plan on doing and what your goals are as far as power delivery. In general the FMF Factory Fatty works well for MX.
I'm looking for power everywhere on my YZ250. So the best choice must be the Fatty, but what silencer would be best. I don't want to kill the high RPM with a shorty.
The answer to that question will vary greatly depending on who you talk to and the type of riding being done. Having said that our customers have been really happy with the FMF Fatty 2-Stroke Exhaust Pipe for KTM 65SX.
hey i have a KX85 and i rode a Yz85 that sounded really good it had a nice clean sound to it and it had a good powerband and it was a fmf pipe with a procircuit silencer what do u think sounds best
i have an 03 yz250 with a turbine silencer, i am debating in between the s series and fatty pipe. i ride out at hungry valley and am looking into some freestyle, i also ride in sand pismo glamis so i need an overall pipe that is going to let me have more overall power. What would you recommend?

what silencer would be best for my kx 85, I currently own a fatty pipe and stock pipe, I am into motocross and racing. I heard pro circuit R-304 silencers go well with the fatty but not too sure.
good info on the fmf pipes, you helped me make a decision, im going with the gnarly for my trail riding on my '96 250 exc. the pipe bend is all dented in quite severely on my factory pipe, giving half the diametre over a 2 inch section, so i want the gnarly for the added thickness and low end torque. QUESTION: how does the gnarly pipe go in the top of the rev range? i hear that i peaks and drops off sooner, this is not a real problem for me, but it might take some of the fun out of my bike. (i just rebuilt the top end and power valves on the old girl and dont want it getting hot by not being able to breathe)
ANSWER: Yes it will drop off sooner. 2 stroke exhaust systems are always a give and take. It will breathe just fine though. Keep in mind you could also play with your gearing a bit to. Once you get the pipe if it feels like you have ton's off the bottom end but it sign's off a bit soon on the top try going 1 or 2 teeth smaller on your rear sprocket to balance it out.
Check your CVT roller weights. If they are too heavy your engine won't rev until you reach the speed your CVT will stop moving in.If too light you will be able to pop wheelies with no effort but you won't be able to get out of 60km.Try different weights or try mixing weights(ALWAYS cross-pattern).HINT:7g are closest to middle so you get both torque and speed but the ideal weight changes with every other change that will affect bike performance.Hope this helped!
i have a 1998 hasquvarna wr 250 with a gnarly pipe, that thing is mental it gave so much more power in low-mid but i can barely tell the difference between 5th and 6th probably be a good idea to get a different ratio sprockets but I'm not just because i don't want to ruin that mid range POWER!
sprockets will make a 100 percent difference. i run a stock pipe. 87 kx 250. its not worth the 200 plus dollars for any aftermarket pipe. thats my 30 years opinion.
hello i have a question to ask you i have a 2 stroke yamaha bws and i just got a gianelli pipe and from 0-65km i role very slow but once i reach 65 i get this wierd "power band" and my scooter just takes of all the way to 80 and probably more but sometimes on a flat surface my scooter cant reach 65km because it takes alot of time do u think you know the problem with my pipe??? cause my friend has one and at 60km his "power band" kicks in i would really love to hear from you thankz!!!
You guys need to expand your inventory. I just checked for a pipe for my Dad's RM250 and all you have is about 10 to choose from and they are for KX250 05-07, KTM125s, and a bunch of smaller CC bikes.
Yes, the FMF Fatty and Factory Fatty will fit your motorcycle. Go to the JC Motors web site and click on exhaust on the left side of the screen it will take you to our exhaust page. From there you can enter your motorcycle year, make, model and see exactly what exhausts will fit your bike. Ride safe!
yeah I got the fmf powercore 2 and gold series on a 2001 rm250 I did not notice any thing in the mid or lower BUT MAN that power band I cant keep the front wheelie down I gotta say it did help but some reason I like the stock muffler at a idle better but the fmf in the high rpm does sound sick
The 96 YZ250 I got a while back has a Platinum on it, I'm hoping I can get more bottom end out of the bike. I hear opinions both ways on the Platinum giving bottom end, so does anyone have the real scoop on it? Dyno sheets that tell once and for all? FMF doesn't make the Gnarly for 96, but if I made a 97 Gnarly fit just how much of the top end would I loose????
I have a KDX200 with a platinum, it has good low end and great midrange, not much up top, and a flatspot just off idle I am trying to rejet it , ... I'd like to try a Gnarly, it's very tight technical trails around here
I found out a while back that my powervalve wasn't working because the linkage screw was backed out. Lots of bottomend now, but I did the Gnarly conversion before I found that. lol
I would recommend checking that the radiator and mounts are not mis-aligned or damaged. Then I'd suggest calling FMF at their corporate number 310-631-4363.

I ride a 1990 kdx200. I would like a gnarly pipe for it, but the only aftermarket made for it is a fatty pipe. Would a fatty pipe work good enough for tight single track.
Well first off your bike is not built for track, I used to own a 2005 KDX 200 with a Fmf Gnarly Gold series pipe and a Fmf Powercore 2 Muffler. Now I ride a 2004 Kawa KX 250 mx bike with the same FMF setup.
