Yes, I’ve been paying into Social Security since 1973, and I still am! I’m entitled to receive Social Security or they can send a check for what I’ve paid plus interest. Suggest you raise the limits so that those people that don’t pay during the whole year pay in longer.

Fact: each republican administration since Reagan has increased the budget deficit and one term Trump added 8 trillion. Also the problem is not too much spending (other than Iraq/Afghanistan) but tax subsidies to the wealthy and largest corporations

The rich already pay taxes. You'd better believe that if they didn't pay every penny they owe that the IRS would be on them like Joe Biden on a young girl. The top 1% pays 50% of all US taxes while the bottom 50% pays $0.

Judd Gegg, the problem is NOT entitlements; it's that we don't have a 90% top tax bracket and we don't tax income that wasn't earned at a higher rate than we tax income that was actually worked for (kind of a DUH! thing; why would you tax couch-sitting at a lower rate than building couches?). We also let people pretend that real estate drops in value. And we don't tax gains as long as you don't sell the stock. Get rid of all the loopholes and institute a rock solid highly progressive income tax that taxes all kinds of income every year, along with a highly progressive wealth tax. And quit whining that letting people eat and see a doctor is too expensive.

Spending isn't the problem revenue is you literally have companies worth trillions of dollars and people worth hundreds of billions that's where the money is you can't balance the budget without tax increases the highest economic growth and expansion country has ever seen was when tax rate was in the 90% to 80% and guess what we still had billionaire equivalent

This model for this is Japan where their economy is terrible and they have a recession every four or five years. We need to fix the problem if possible. It may already be too late...

@@JudasMaccabeus1 Shutting down the government isn't the objective. It's what happens when you don't have the appropriation bills done. Why these bills aren't done is a mystery given they are, or should be, the congress' highest priority... The alternative is to continue not doing appropriation bills and just allowing the pols to spend whatever they want. As it is, since 2015, the spending to GDP ratio has increased from 20% to 25%. And because the US does big government worse than anywhere else in the world, it's hard to see what we are getting for our money...

1. Repeal the trump tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit the wealthy 2. Collect the 1/2 cent tax on all stock transactions and earmark it for social programs 3. Pipe dream but- resuce the obscene defense spending. We collect enough in taxes that, worh the proper tweaks, can provide a much better, and more equitable, quality of life and help turn our country around to an advancing nation again. Lots of work to do, lots of special interests to fight.
