@@placeholder-ku5ls I completely forgot I made this comment. Came back four years later and read your reply and agree. I have a much deeper understanding of the song after having gone through my own share of hardships when it comes to love. The song isn't about somebody who has closed themselves off to love at all. It's about somebody whose loved one left them years ago and has likely completely moved on with their life, but the feelings for that person being the one driving thing that keeps their heart beating and like you said keeps them from ending it all. They're screaming out to the person they love to return to them and either give them a reason to properly hate them or give them a reason to keep on living. As far as this person is concerned life has become stagnant, love is impossible due their undying feelings for this other person, they can't bring themselves to end it because of hope that one day that love might prevail, and although it's been so long that they hardly even remember the person anymore, nothing will ever change how the heart feels. I've been going through something very similar. Not to the point I would consider ending it all, but the feelings you have for somebody never really go away unless they stomped your heart out like the person singing the song requests them to do at the very end.
