Just a little FYI, the H&K USP .45-T is the ONLY .45 on Earth that DOESN'T need to change a thing to shoot .45 Super...The FNX, Glock, whoever, have to swap barrels and definitely spring-guide rods...The H&K can shoot a steady diet with 0 issues...Hope this helps...

If you tried shooting suppressed, you would understand the extra length. Some pistons are short, that's why the barrel needs to be longer. There are tons of threaded barrels I can't use with a couple of my cans that use short pistons. Many of the silencerco cans won't work without a special long style piston.

On the trigger topic the fnx45 has the ability to double strike the same round which can be advantageous for clearing ammo related malfunctions. With striker fired pistols you have to rack the slide to clear a dud but a DA/SA allows you to hit the same round multiple times and potentially fire the round.
@phillhuddleston9445
@phillhuddleston9445 10 месяцев назад
That is a bonus but with good premium ammo the need to double strike a primer in a bad situation would be extremely low with no guarantee that the second strike will send the bullet flying.

@Phynomeagle
@Phynomeagle Год назад
One thing I have noticed is that dry firing just about any FN handgun versus actually shooting them at the range are two totally different things. With that being said, my FN 509 LS Edge is super gritty, but that grittiness has no real impact on my shooting at the range. I will give you that the FN 45 FNX is oily smooth. Also, the longer barrel I believe gives you more accuracy. So a longer barrel with a smoother trigger gives you a better system, in my opinion. I would not say that one is better than the other, but just different. I will never get rid of my FNX .45. Also, I believe that FN modified the trigger in the FN 545 to give it a tighter feel by making the reset shorter and zero take-up. I have not handled the 545, but looking at the trigger action in this video makes me believe that is true, as I own both the LS and a regular 509.
@2realink279
@2realink279 Год назад
I think most people would agree the fnx45 is a better looking gun for sure. Also, it seems like your motive on downplaying the Fnx was to boost their sales on the 545 hoping for a sponsor or something. The FNx is the best .45 acp handgun on the market. Some will try to argue the hk45 but the 545 just doesn’t stack up IMO. You also made a comment on the Barrel length of the FNx. 45 acp jhp tend not to expand with shorter barrels. So having a 5inch+ barrel on a 45 acp handgun is ideal. That’s like asking why 10.5 AR over 7.5 5.56. Better ballistic capability
@PEWPEWNATION
@PEWPEWNATION Год назад
I agree the FNX-45 was the best 45 on the market which is why I love mine. That was the best until the improved 545 came out. Either really boils down to preference though. I don't want a sponsorship with any manufacturer because I love being able to offer unbiased videos and articles.

I think the FN545 is a better *LOOKING* pistol but looks have little to do with how a pistol shoots and that we do not know so, that said, until we have knowledgeable people shooting both or individuals shooting them it’s all conjecture.
@2realink279
@2realink279 Год назад
@@WDLC1911 right, but like I said. The fnx has a longer barrel which helps with velocity which is important for jhp expansion. Has a better trigger. And the heft of the gun makes it shoot like a compact 9mm. But, it’s all about preference and what you train with.
@WDLC1911
@WDLC1911 Год назад
@@2realink279 the minuscule decrease in barrel length won’t make a difference in JHP bullet expansion. The 230 grain JHP is subsonic and the cartridges are designed to expand within a “velocity window”. I’ve shot some 509T pistols and the triggers vary quite a bit. A good one is about 6 lbs with a smooth take up, very crisp break and a longer than I’m used to trigger reset. The bad ones were either or heavier, gritty take up and less than crisp trigger break.

Well they're two different guns, not made to be compared with each other. The FNX45 T was made for military combat use and was later released to the civilian market, while the FN 545 is just a .45 cal of their civilian 5 series striker fire line. Yes, cosmetics are different for a reason. The FNX45 T mags are made with a really large and weighted base plate for a more efficient mag release/drop, and a longer barrel as everyone should know equates to higher accuracy and bullet velocity. There were no mistakes when each of these gun were made, they' re marketed toward two different applications. In my opinion, I don't believe these guns deserve a comparison video, if anything they deserve educational points so the buyer can decide what gun fits their intent of use.
@PEWPEWNATION
@PEWPEWNATION Год назад
However, so many people wanted to see them side by side, which is why I made the video. They are both different guns for sure, but both 45 acp offerings from a great company, so why not see them next to each other since they are really so similar in size and weight?

@adammertens785
@adammertens785 Год назад
I disagree. The 509 FDE tactical was created for and entered into the M17 modular handgun military trials. They simply didn’t win because the cost of each unit was too high for the likes of a mass purchase from the government but FN decided to sell to the high demand civilian market anyway and keep the new innovations in their more modern designs. More than likely if FN would have won the military trials, they would have released the 545 to the military for a .45 caliber contract that would have replaced the FNX because the 545 is a more modern design and same platform as the 509 that was already entered into the trials. Not to mention the fact that all of their guns come off the same assembly line. There is not a separate assembly line for their products of military contracts so there really isn’t a civilian specific marketed model. It is more the case that it is just a coincidence that the FNX is the only FN handgun model currently holding a contract with the U.S. military.
@JuiceAlmightyJr
@JuiceAlmightyJr Год назад
@@adammertens785 still not to be compared though. The fact still remains they’re two different handguns. That’s like comparing Sigs P226 to their M17 (P320) because they’re both chambered in 9mm and have military contracts. What type of logic is that to use?

Barrel on fnx tactical is longer because, longer barrels and or rail mounted accessories that extend beyond the length of the slide help to ensure a full range of motion for the slide, to mitigate failure to feed in situations where the firearm is pressed against an individual/object. While it sounds like a textbook definition I promise that’s my brains way of thinking 😂

I bought the fnx 45 about 6 months ago have put over 500 rounds through it and never activated the safety while shooting. The problem I see with people owning the fnx 45 tactical is if you have never owned a 1911 or trained with a 1911 you will make the mistake of making g your grip high then knocking the safety on. It is a 1911 noob problem. The safety/ decocker on the fnx 45 is nice and tight for me and my big hands. If your hand follows the lines you won't have a problem.

I would use the gun for hunting and home protection so I prefer the longer barrel. Hammer fired da/sa guns are also far superior to striker guns with a superior trigger and manual safety/decocker. While I haven't shot the 545, I do have an FNX and a few 509s. The FNX trigger is honestly the worst trigger I have ever used in any gun. It's long. In every aspect. DA/SA guns should have a short, light SA mode. That is not the case in the FNX. I will admit it is smooth, but I short-stroke it plenty, a problem I don't have with other DA/SA guns. Striker guns are plenty safe (giving Sig a good side-eye here), and the hinged trigger will be enough safety on the 545, just as it is on the 509. I find the 509 triggers to be much better than Sigs and Glocks, so if the 545 is the same (as I expect it to be), then it will blow the FNX out of the water. The half-inch of extra barrel isn't really going to give a noticeable difference. All of that being said, the FNX is good, but to say it's far superior is BS

I'm passing along what FN told me. I checked one out yesterday and the grit is in the striker channel, just like a bunch of 509's. The striker safety plunger was smooth as glass as I pushed it down verifying that the grit is in the striker channel. A better trigger is really not needed if the striker channel is smoothed out and the striker spring is polished. After that, the trigger will get better.

If you need to change base pads and springs they are really not compatible. Yes it probably works doing so but you would have to ourchase base pads and springs which at that point just buy new mags. Compatibility to me means not having to modify anything and slapping a mag in either gun.

All in all for me i like the 545 over x45 because I don't care for decocker just gotten use to no safety after couple summer of training with x military guys tought me better discipline. For me it was.a.choice because it was easier for me to learn that there was no safety so it was one less thing , best safety is training. Just my opinion.

Still in the waiting period for my FN 510. There are no improved triggers available yet for the 510/545. But I'm sure that will change soon. Saw a post from a 510 owner that stated he got rid of the gritty trigger by polishing the striker, Striker Spring and sear faces. I've read, the 510 has a different breach face and extractor position than the 545, so a caliper change would not be as easy as just a barrel swap. BUT, I've seen they are selling 510 and 545 slide assembly kits. I have to wonder if the slide assembly is swappable? At the same time, at $700+, getting another slide assembly for caliber swaps is not exactly practical, just slightly cheaper than just getting a 2nd pistol.

I got it for 1-0-6-9(put it in this format; don't know how this commie platform would respond if I put it correctly). I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other since they are both high quality and hold 15 rounds. In a battle situation that will most likely never happen, I would take the hammer fired fnx in case of a light primer strike. I can also go ahead and throw a can on it and comes with 3 mags. However that safety could be life of death if not properly trained, hate safeties on pistols personally.

I agree. I have a FNX 45T and both the 509T and 509c (I’m not interested in the new .45 pistol). Those guns are duty style, combat pistols and they have a duty/combat trigger. I’m an admitted trigger snob but I don’t mind a heavy trigger in a defensive pistol. The grit wears away with use. I don’t expect a light, buttery smooth competition trigger in a combat/defensive gun. If I want to go to the range and fan out over a trigger I’ll bring my Rival, Walther Q5 Match or my PDP Pro.
