Someone else may have suggested on the 1911 with a high grip it is perfectly acceptable to ride the safety with your thumb on top of it. This will keep you from inadvertently bumping it on safe position when firing and also helps gives you more leverage to manage recoil. I also have a RIA, different model though, and removed the ambi safety because with a high grip, it felt like it was digging in my trigger finger. Replaced it with a Wilson combat single side tactical thumb safety. To me, another benefit of 1911's is the plethora of aftermarket parts to allow shooter customization. They are kind of like the AR15 of pistols!

Both Great Guns. I have become a huge RIA fan over the years and I'm pretty much leaving my M&P to collect dust anymore these days. Its a great gun tho too. I just love the point and shoot and feel of the RIA 1911. The RIA doublestack models hold lots of rounds in about every caliber I could want . I do admit they weigh a lil more but it really helps with keeping on target. The 22TCMs are flat like a laser screamers too. I love my 45ACP's tho. If I was at war in a desert carrying 100lbs of crap, Id want the lighter one from FNX, for Everything else I chose the 1911 made by RIA!! God Bless John M Browning! RIP!!

Yup. Was just about to say the exact same thing. I actually really like 1911s because you CAN do that. Feels weird holding a gun without a thumb safety because I'm like "where do I put my thumb??"

You won't feel that way if you have to disassemble it in the field. Just doing it in a stress-free environment takes a while...Not to mention the fact that there are way more parts to a 1911, most of which are precision machined and tight fitting (if you own a high quality one). One little ding could fuck up your piece, then you're up shit creek without a paddle, boat, or even water wings...Don't get me wrong, I love 1911s...But I would never take one into battle unless it's all I had at the time.

I use to think the same way, cut my teeth on the M1911A1, love it. That was until I tried the FNX .45 Tactical. The Rock Island gun is good but it's a very expensive remake of an old design. It only has a seven round clip with one in the chamber, with the FNX you got 15 in the clip and one in the chamber. AND, the FNX, weights two ounces less fully loaded.

Remington made magazines for the Para Ordnance frame (since they bought Para Ordnance) actually bumped the capacity for .45ACP up to 15+1. I built my custom gun off a Para frame as opposed to the more common 2011 frame specifically to use those mags.

Hey Kota, you hit the nail on the head with the beautiful tank analogy, I have the same RI 1911 and it is an awesome looking pistol but a monster with weight. Mine is a little finicky also with ammo but don't Think it's broken in too well yet with only a few hundred down the pipe so far. But I do have to admit that my bed gun is a G21 similar to your FN and feel it is more reliable for a go to gun. Keep the vids coming love the mix of content!!

I've ben shooting 1911s since 1980 when i was taught it in army officers training. Ive owned everything from Colt to 3 Springfields, Sig TT, to AMT Hardballers, toc2 Les Baers and 2 Ed Brown SF. I also own thr FNX .45 Standard. FN knows how to build militsry guns. Theyve been building military guns since 1888. If i wwre to go load out SHTF, it would be the FNX and my FN SCAR 17. If i were to John Wick someone, id take one of my tuned 1911.

Very good vid. however I agree with another commenter "A bit bias toward the fnx". I t was easy to know beforehand which one you were going to pic. With that said, I do agree with you on many of your points on the FNX. I am equally bias toward the 1911.

@intense_pickle
@intense_pickle 5 лет назад
Did you seriously just pronounce trijicon that way? That being said, I own the FNX-45, and I've owned several 1911s...Love both designs, but if I had to choose one for battle, the FNX wins every time. There are many reasons, but if I had to settle on one, it would be the ease of maintenance. You're not gonna easily disassemble a 1911 in the field...The FNX doesn't have that problem. And the ambidexterity isn't just for left/right handed shooters...It's also useful for shooting around corners with your non-dominant hand, or if you sustain an injury.

as i understand it the proper grip on a 1911 has you rest your thumb on top of the safety lever. That's how i was trained on that platform...

Manipulating the safety on the 1911: Try keeping the tip of your right thumb extended up. As the pistol meets your left use a sweeping swiping motion to bring your right thumb down, deactivating the safety. My thumbs rest high as well and that works for me.

If you don't mind another suggestion or two, drop your left thumb down so it's pointing at the target instead of upward. Keep in mind the slide lock lever so your thumb doesn't kick it up, locking the slide back. I have a lot of rounds through a 1911 and it's second nature to me.

Nice video. I find pull distance and reset distance to be very important for a good trigger. Half pound or even a pound difference isn't a big deal. I like that most 1911 triggers are typically much better than non-1911 triggers right out of the box and you can adjust them. I wish non-1911 guns had triggers as good (like the apex flat trigger). Of course you probably need a thumb safety then. I'm an odd ball in that I only buy guns with thumb safeties. That's definitely a bad idea for most.

Good review. You did not mention the price difference. I do not own the RIA, but do own the FNX. What drew me to the FNX was it was friendly for a lefty. It's a great gun, I particularly love the 15 +1 capacity. The only flaw that I've have and continues is the mags will not drop free in cold weather. Does sound strange I know. Contacted FNH about this and they initially "fixed" the problem. Got the gun back and still the problem existed. The gun has been replaced 3 times and still the problem persists. FNH did offer to buy the gun back, but I declined. The gun is only a range gun I only shoot it in warm weather. I shoot other 45's in colder weather. Have you experienced this problem?

I shoot an FNX9 and love it. Good video, but did not care much for comment regarding right handed people as normal. My mother used to say that if the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body it's left handed people that are in their right minds. Plus left handed people should be given credit as they have to, for the most part, live in a right handed world. We adapt, we overcome.

My dad has an older Colt 9mm I think model 29 or 92 not really sure and at gun range close by we would go to and they had big sell on I don't remember name but it was Russian Company and my dad bought 3 boxes of 50 rounds and that 1st time had no major issues. but the next time we went to shoot we noticed they quit selling it and said they didn't want anyone to use it there. well he had either 50 or 100 rounds left he had bought there Apparently the Russian ammo would swell or something because that trip he spent bunch of time trying to get gun from being jammed. So maybe this guy come across a funky batch. That's one reason I only owned revolvers cause never had an issue but recently got chance to buy basically brand new Armorcor International 1911 45ACP A1 Tactical grip and woth it being such a deal I figured might as well try it out. if I don't like the way semi auto works I'll go back to my good old Ruger GP100 357 mag. It will be hard to replace it. Not replace put it in gun safe it's a tank & love it.
