I saw them back then, really weird it wasn't sold out then. I was really lucky that they played this as well! They haven't played Black Gold much since.
I saw them tour this album in Chicago at Lincoln Hall. They played many songs from antidotes. I've seen them many times since then and I get annoyed by the set lists of late. HF and WWD are cool but I don't like the "hits" on those records. I will admit that they've gotten much better at playing live. Check out the 2008 performances for context.
Yes, that break down is so godly, gives me chills. These are one of those songs that you might skip when you first get their CD, but will become your favorite when you listen to the entire thing.
its so amazing when you compare this performance to their 2017 summer festival performances of this song. you can just see how much they've grown on the stage and how they enhanced this song sonically live. foals forever!
Emily Walker I’ve seen them 3 times here in chile since 2013, and just once they played black gold when i saw them this year on apr 1st, i couldn’t believe it i couldn’t fit my happiness it was just so epic.
Incredible. They really do have a way of creating a whole different energy to their songs live, in a way that the studio versions really doesn't do them justice. I'd happily pay for a live album - the extended riffs in the likes of Inhaler live are just outstanding. Saw them in Cork in July.
glad there is still people out there that still enjoys this "foals", not the hard rock commercial stuff they are doing now, which is not bad, I'm just not into it
@@koanfilms_ I liked his last two albums, the first part (for me) one of his best albums. But I agree with you, these songs and if the vibes of TLF are the best of them. I would have liked to listen to this song live or whats remains (my favorite of them)
@Flowery27 This song was one of the reasons I come to love them. I think its one of their most diverse pieces of music along with 2 Trees and What Remains.
that's jimmy's guitar, I make the intro/verse bass out as: E7-D9/E5-A7/E3-E3 there are variations as well (and a different bass line in the chorus/breakdown), such a good song!
Truely this song is an hommage to coffee - who doesn't love it? ;) Jokes aside, this is really a great version of the song, the best live one I've heard yet. I really wished this would be available to download somewhere.
@slappkuken this kind of music can't be too rehearsed and prepared for it's like "in this moment" kind of music which makes it so special even though it doesn't seem perfect these guys put feeling into it unlike many new singers do these days. Foals forever ^_^
My favourite song off of the album, followed by 2 trees/spanish sahara. But UH! I love the math rock they and radiohead use. The build up is also beautiful too, if I were coming up on something, this would be perfect to listen to :)
Tenemos buenos gustos HAHA escucha late night. Out of the woods balloons Olympic airways es buenísima y todas las de foals
@inspiringlentil Yeah it's such a shame! I've seen pretty much every song from Total Life Forever live except this which is one of my favourites (especially this version!) and possibly This Orient unless they played it at O2 Academy Oxford. I think they did but my friend doesn't so if anyone knows... haha
@skip2mylou05 Jack Bevan is probably the best drummer in the world. Such a creative genius would get bored playing the same beat night after night which is why he improvises around the beats on a regular basis.
@skip2mylou05 Jack Bevan is intuitive and has a good groove but he is by no means the best in the world. But I don't think the keys player is playing the cowbell because jack can't at the same time as playing the rest of the drums, I simply think the keys player had not much else to do in that part of the song so no use just standing around playing two chords over and over - why not play the cowbell as well. And travis barker? chad smith? they are competent. Nothing more can be said about them.
the drummer really is disapointing, i mean i can play this beat doing the cowbell too, he never plays the studio recorded beat on the album live either, really is a let down, still i love Foals and get to see them twice this year!!!
