FOALS - Life Is Yours Interview with Apple Music with Matt Wilkinson 

I gotta say, not a lot of bands from my early high school years have still remained in my Playlist and continue to own real estate in my head. Foals have that longevity baby!

I really feel like myself when I listen to this band. I consider myself very lucky to have discovered this band. 🌹

Listening to the new songs you really feel the escapist urge to bring some soothing light into the dark world right now. Especially after the pessimistic, apocalyptic tone of ENSWBL I think they now wanted to create something positiv with a summer vibe instead.

Saw them in Houston last week - fantastic band and have aged very well.

What Went Down was when I first heard them, and Snake Oil, Birch Tree, Albatross made an indelible imprint on me. I just knew I’d listen to these guys for life. Then I fell in love with their earlier work, Inhaler, Providence, Everytime, My Number. While Holy Fire is definitely their best album, I still love the sounds they’ve explored on Life is Yours. And of course Everything Saved are both incredible. I just saw them in Chicago and it was the best show of my life - a truly religious experience (and clearly was for everyone else there). I’m just glad these guys exist, man. They give me so much joy.

I’ve been a fan since Holy Fire and this band thrives in studio and especially live with hard rock tracks. They truly are the best live band I’ve seen when they play tracks like Inhaler, Snake Oil, What Went Down, Spanish Sahara and of course Two Steps, Twice. The pop/dance tracks feel out of place at live gigs and feel awkward at home on my soundstage. Life Is Yours is by far my least favourite album and I think the band would agree if asked. I really hope that they return to their roots as I miss their kick ass, primal rock sound.
