Foam concrete is a type of light concrete mixed with special additives which give to it outstanding characteristics.
Excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, 3 times higher than conventional bricks and can be compared with the characteristics of wood. No additional insulation is required! Reduce heating and cooling costs up to 40%.
Foam-concrete is completely clean environmentally friendly material.
Belongs to the group of non-combustible materials.
Foam-concrete is low weight material. It gives direst impact on cost reduction for transportation, use of reinforcing steel for foundation, labor costs, save time for finishing work because of already smooth surface.
The most modern way of building foam-concrete houses at the highest standards and competitive prices.
Cost-effective especially for construction of settlements. In case of flood it can be dry in 24hours.

Such a gorgeous book - each shed is unique and inspiring, and I love all the tiny details Kotite features to help readers imagine how to create their own She Sheds ru-vid.comUgkxe9yi0sulKgsp0VJJCIrLWWkvVqcU7LFR . The feature on Dinah's Rustic Retreat is like something from a fairy tale. It's really inspiring to see how creative all these ordinary people are in making beautiful and useful spaces on a modest scale.

I grew up in South Africa until 1974, when I left and came to Europe, and in the last few years I was there, a company called Gazbeton (French for Gas Concrete) started building houses and other buildings from foam concrete. They sold it in long blocks about 1ft wide (from memory) and 9" deep. I can't remember the length, but around 10-12 ft. The mouldings had a frog in the end, so the corner verticals were erected, then the walls filled in between them, all joined by putting concrete between them down the frog. Where the sections were too ,long, they could be cut with a simple hand wood saw - the concrete was made of tiny bubbles, like Aero-chocolate, and the teeth of the saw would simply break the bubble walls. They advertised it as having very good thermal properties - easy enough to believe, as it was full of trapped air. They had built their HQ office building with it - 4 stories high. I just looked for it on RU-vid, and I see they are still going strong - not only in S. Africa but all over the place. There are lots of videos. In short - foam concrete is not new.

That was another material. Material You're talking about is made on factories from sand, aluminum and lime with some other minor amount of chemicals. All those components are mixed and due to chemical reaction CO2 is produced by material itself, this CO2 gas creates bubbles in blocks. When material is dry enough it has to be baked in huge industrial autoclave and this completes all chemical reactions in material and transforms it into single monolith crystalline unit. This is literally artificial crystal, it doesn't have any organic components at all. Later huge unit has to be cut to smaller blocks and this kind of structural material is named as "gas silicate block". Overall this is very high-tech material, which can be made ONLY in industrial conditions. It's effective, reliable and not exposed to microorganisms and pests, because it doesn't have organics. To clarify, i want to repeat - You've described absolutely another material. Material, shown in this video has absolutely different purposes and components. It can be used directly at construction site, it can be mold anywhere, but it's not monolith crystal and it has organic components in materials. In most of cases organic components are based on proteins and they are needed to create foam. My best wishes.

Wellcome to Serbia (yes this is serbian company from Zemun), where life makes most of people learn everything, not saying everyone is a pro and lives off it, but everyone can do everything good enough for himself and you know since unemployment is high, everyone survives in any company he can untill a beter job opens up. Personally I dont remember last time I paid someone for example a painting job, and Im on half way to becoming electrical engineer who is supposed to design building instalations so houses this small are never a problem. FUN FACT: Most ppl here choose to do jobs themselves cause it is often better, and worker mostly doesnt know a lot more than you anyway, but he doesnt care about how nice it is done, so ppl actually choose to work themselves - for themselves, and like i said ppl are usually poor so f paying someone to do it worse than you anyway :)

"Ihr Fachpartner für Baustoffe." ;D great video, thank you for sharing. Two things to note: You need to make sure that the cure (concrete) is fully dry or nearly dry (3 to 5 weeks) before you use it for your walls, etc. And you have to use a vibration tool for the concrete. This tool ist vibrating through the concrete and releases any air inside of the concrete. Otherwise, the concrete encloses air inside of it. If there is a really cold winter, the concrete could break up, because the air gets pressed out of it due to the cold temperature. I think this Video is just a PoC for us. So we can see how this house was build. Thank you very much and keep up your good work! Cheers from Germany!

Concrete technically never fully cures but normally 28 days is considered full strength. Air is good, to a point. 6-8.5% engrained air is good for climates that get cold. Too little, it cracks due to freeze/thaw cycles. Too much air, its weak.

Although this is a well constructed building, there are few things I noticed that we do differently in Alaska. When we put in the water and sewer we add protection around the pipes. This is because we have to follow guidelines for earthquakes. When we do the walls, we install the conduit for the wiring.

You should have tapped the little drop down arrow and read the description. It would help you understand that it wasn’t just about speed. The very small home (maybe 25 x 12) has benefits a wood stick house doesn’t. Besides being fireproof, and not needing extra insulation, it is likely very inexpensive per sq. ft.. Termites never a worry. Rodents not setting up homes in the walls and attic space and nibbling on the wiring. I assume what they built is not in an area where the temps vary much. No heating or cooling at all. White stuff they painted the roof with will reflect some heat. Put the lightest colored asphalt shingles I could find when I replaced a roof. Helped only a tiny bit in the low desert of SoCal. Until they came up with better insulation materials standard stick homes were about the same temps as the outside. I don’t know the R value of the foamcrete, but it is no worse than what you gloat about. “Timber and drywall”. Unless you are talking about logs. The title of the video is the problem. And the lack of narrative about what the benefits of the material are. In the description they were comparing it to concrete blocks and use after floods. Since you are in home construction I have a question. Why in blue blazes do you put toilets in, essentially, cubby holes?

Rent is reasonable which is more cost effective than homeless shelters. Most military posts use propane which would reduce installation of gas line and plumbing. Solar panels and a backup power cell would run about $1,500-3,000 for a small home like this. It would cost the tax payers much and maybe be offset by the person's social security or DPA benefits.

I have an idea, I am to old to start a new venture, but someone out there may want to pursue this idea. I would like to build aircrete logs. Based on the toys we all played with when we were kids, Lincoln logs. These could be pre-manufactured so really almost anyone could buy the logs and construct a building. There would need to be different lengths made say like 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 feet etc. There would need to be some that had special ends with channels for doors and windows. There could be some that are pre wired with wall outlet boxes and switches. Logs could be pre-colored or surfaced in some cases. A building could be constructed permanently by bonding the logs together, or could be temporary and disassembled and moved. I think this could be an amazing new business that could revolutionize small buildings. And it would allow for any person to DIY.

Interesting to read all the naysayers. I viewed this as a material demo video not as a permanent residential structure that someone is moving into. What better place to demo a new construction material than by a noisy flight line vs next door to a residential area, duh? Someone mentioned mold due to no vapor barrier being installed, someone criticized rebar and the list goes on. I've been around the world, there are millions of man-made structures that do not adhere to OSHA or other current industrial standards that continue to function, stand and be useful for 1000s of years. While plenty of buildings that meet said standards are blown away, full of mold, burn down and wash away in the blink of an eye. So much for standards... The longer I'm on this planet the more I realize how SOME people choose prescriptions of ignorance and close-mindedness for their glasses and contacts. Sheesh, let these folks test their material and lets see where it goes from here, if you don't like it don't use it.

People have to appreciate that construction requirement vary a lot depending on the conditions the building will face. Moisture management it important in the northern USA, or the UK, but it may barely matter in the desert. Fire resistance it not a huge priority in cold, wet places, but it's critical in Australia or the south west USA. So yes, some of the criticisms may not apply to the place where this house it going up.

Instead of foam cement, maybe use shredded up pieces of recycled styrofoam insulation and micro rebar mixed into cement. The shredded up styrofoam would provide some insulation while making the cement lighter. The micro rebar would add strength. Could experiment with shredded car tires mixed into cement. Many car tires have steel belts/strands in them, if adding shredded car tires to cement gave it some strength. It'd be a good way to recycle tires and keep them out of landfills.
