Just wanted to say thanks for posting! I had a difficult time finding a relatively low cost rack, but have ended up using four smaller cooling racks that are connected using metal mending plates. The total cost was about $300. I got all of the items at a local hardware store, except for the racks, 115V cooling fan and 1000W heating element which were ordered online. I got a meat thermometer for the outside putting it through a hole in the front and an oven thermometer for the inside.

You can definitely buy a regular oven and ideally that is what should be done. This is method is just an option for those who want to build their own and don't have the space or hook ups for a regular oven.

I improved upon a bunch of designs (mixed them together). Homemade Foam Latex Ovens have been around for awhile. The biggest problem is that many of the designs are just to difficult and complex for most people. This one is simple and easy to build. I've also seen many in my line of work that cost about a $1000 or more to make. This one is under $200 if budgeted right, and can be stored outside or in a garage.

I just finished my foam latex oven. Thanks for posting this video, it helped quite a bit.

The music is from my old Los Angeles band Lithargia. The oven works great and I don't have to worry about my family complaining about latex in the kitchen.

@howlingcactus The temp is not to hot to melt the cord. The burner sits under the rack. Check the magazines website for the December 2009 Issue.

Excellent! and perfect timing too because I may just need to be doing that very thing very soon. Love the mag and I can't wait for that issue now! :)

Yes, You could reduce the size of the oven by half vertically and come out with a great result. As long as air-flow and heat is maintained you will have the optimum requirements for curing latex. Let me know how it looks when your done.

@alatony It's actually in one of the issues of Stop Motion Magazine. Go to our website.

Would this work in smaller scale, because I know I want to use foam latex at some point, but I don't have enough space. I can't wait to see the designs in this month's issue.

Hi, You should never have your oven hot enough to melt the fan. If you do then you are doing it wrong and burning your foam. The fan used was purchased through Radio Shack and is made for high temp situations. You could also look into using an oven fan which can handle even higher temps. But once again you should never use your over over 180F.

Do not turn this oven up over 185F degrees, it's not designed for anything other then foam latex mold baking. You can reach 185F in 15 to 20 minutes depending on how well you made the oven and what kind of heat element you have.

Yes! It should do fine.

Where exactly does the burner sit? I am assuming that it sits inside the unit under the rack. If so, will the electric power cord going to the burner not melt due to the heat? Is there a photo showing the burner installed?

Hey could I have a materials list of what you used for this project?

I couldn't find the plans on that site. I see that convection ovens are best because they circulate heat, but, they're pretty small. I don't know how big an oven I'd need. I'm not doing whole body suits, just faces and maybe hands. Any recommendations? And I'm cheap lol

yea well I'd never use it in the house anyway, I'll use it in the garden. I'm struggling sourcing foil back insulation stuff. It isn't readily available here as it's not really used in the building trade.

I think you risk a chance of major fire hazard using materials not designed to withstand heat. Be very careful. Plus the paint and urethane coating on such products could potentially burst into flames.

With just a 1000w hot plate for heat, how long does it take the oven to reach 200 degrees?
@williamdavidreid

Instead of doing the warming plate as well as the fan at top do you think I could substitute a heat fan? I've found these at hd with dual adjust with 1500 watts
