I know this is a dumb question (new to hifi) but what are the spikes for?

They isolate vibration from the floor. For carpet use them as is. For wood, you can use the rubber feet or get something so the spike do not hurt the floor. It improves the overall sonic quality.

abdeckungen,vollplastik ,füße vollplastik ,halterungen für rahmen ,vollplastik und das für schlappe 3500 euro ,klasse .na wenigstens sind die schrauben aus stahl ,oder ?? :-))

Actually, the bottom is full metal with metal feet and rubber insert in case you do not use the metal spikes. Cover is plastic with magnetic fastening system so there is no tabs to break.
