Thank you for your kind words! It means a lot to me that you appreciate the effort I put into testing the battery life in all the different modes. I want to make sure my viewers have all the information they need.
Great review. Practical points right from the start. And great that you focus on your experiences, thoughts and observations rather than falling back onto charts🙂
I received my Focal Bathys today and tested them. I must say that the sound is top tier. However, I also tested against my Jabra Elite 75t's earbuds using the Wavelet app on an Android phone. The 75t's were very close but the bass was definitely more pronounced and HIT harder. Now I've watched a review about from an Audiophile and he declared that you have to get 300 hours of play time to get the best sound out of the Bathys. He said this is the break-in period and the bass will get better along with the sound Signature. Time will tell.
@@Nolepower so the question is... Bathys enhanced with wavelet, is it really worth the money? Have you tried other Focal high end ones like Radiance or Celestee, if yes, how are they compared to Bathys + wavelet? Especially in DAC mode
@mantabjaya27 no I haven't tried other Focal headphones. Don't get me wrong, the Bathys are great without the Wavelet app. However, the Wavelet app is nooo joke. Just look at it like having hot sauce for some fried fish or chicken. You'd want to put that shit on everything!!!
Hi! Thank you for the review. I have the Meze Empyrean as my wired open back headphones and the Meze Classic 99 (it started with these ones). Both on Fiio K9 Pro Ess dac/amp. Also the fiio fh9 as IEMs with fiio btr7k. Do you think that the Bathys will be a hifi addition to all of them in terms of soundstage, separation, etc.? I’m not really travelling a lot with headphones (only the fh9 from time to time, but wired). So they will mostly be for in house auditions. Does the sound of the Bathys will wow me, to say so? Tanking in consideration the other headphones, especially the Empyrean and the fh9. Thank you!
Always nice to get your perspective big Homie when the Audiophile brands start making commercial products. I have a bit of love/hate relationship with Focal so avoided the Bathys but glad to hear you like them. Hopefully your feedback makes it to France :D
Here in some South East Asian country, Edifier (Chinese company) Stax Spirit S3 officially costing for $248. It's no brainier for the price compare to this Focal France company, I guess
First of all, sorry I did not know about your wife! Sorry for your loss. Bathys: I love them. I did not find the clamping force to great and have had no issues with fit over long listening sessions. These are really comfortable, love the ear pads. These are beating the Mark Levison 5909 in reviews, plus the Levinson are ugly but most people like the sound signature of the Focal though the Levinson are good as well and its one or the other 50/50 on the PX8 but these having the options for wired puts these ahead and with an on board DAC is another reason depending on your needs. To me it is a great sounding blue tooth headphone with the option to be an excellent wired option. Basically 2 headphones in one. Connect the Bathys with iPhone to utilize the onboard DAC using a ddHiFi TC28i Pro for usb-c to usb-c which allows you to run Tidal Masters from an iPhone! Or run a Dragonfly from your computer to the 3.5mm jack in the Bathys if you like which will utilize the Dragonfly DAC. But wirelessly with AAC these are the best I have heard so far. I don't care about the call quality and things like that, though excellent and silent mode very good, I want the best sound! I do like the LED as well! And switching between one device to another is simply wonderful. I can listen wirelessly on computer, stop playing music there and then switch to iPhone and the headphones pick it up quickly!
@graham, sry but y r wrong. The px8 drown everything in Bass. Ok, if you love Bass, ok, but for audiophile listeners, noop.good headphones, but not good Sound Balance.
Listen to mark levinson 5909… my GOD !!! Never heard something like that !!! Never listened to Focal Bathys. I don’t know if they are better than Mark Levinson
Jefe Regardless of the price, which according to your opinion is the best hearing aid! The focal Banthys or the edifier stax S3?Thanks for the help, I look forward to your response.
Hi Jefe how does the Edifier Stax Spirit S3 & Drop Pandas compare to the Focal Bathys in terms of Sound Quality? (Since they are wireless) Hope to see you review the Beoplay H95s too, heard they are some of the cleanest & accurate wireless headphones
Great review thank you. How do the Bathys compare volume wise with the AirPods Max on an iPhone. My iPods max are just about ok for me with my fading ears so would not want to purchase a pair that are lower in volume. Any help greatly appreciated thanks
Hi Jefe, do you know if the Sennheiser Momentum 4 has USB DAC like the Bathys? I mean, I read that Bathys Connect directly to any device’s USB port can take advantage of the built-in DAC, taking your audio to 24-bit / 192kHz for even more impressive performance. and I would like to know if the M4 has something similar...
Is it true that the Bathys has not really enough headroom?? bc I heard that in a couple of reviews, so is it loud enough when it is at 100% volume or not, what do u think?
Plenty loud enough for me. But everyone's hearing is different. There are many people with damaged hearing who always complain about low volume on headphones and earbuds when, in fact, their hearing is the problem and not the headphones themselves.
Love the music suggestions bro. I'm considering these or B&O H95. Few reviews I've seen comparing the two prefer B&O. I know both sets cost bank but if you get a chance to compare the two that would be awesome.
are you gonna get the audiotechnica ath-wb2022 when it comes out next year since it uses sony ldac codec and also has a usb dac? I wish the focal bathys had ldac, ldac is built in on android 8.
.....TIDAL Sounds Amazing On My Bathys Via USB C .....I Likes Mines Boss . The Bluetooth Does Not Sound As Great As The USB C Direct Connection . .....The Bluetooth does sound good but LDAC would have been much better with its much higher bit rate over APTX . .....Ive Not Tried The.3.5 Aux Cable Yet . .....A Question., Since the Bathys use its own internal DAC if i use my Fiio BTR7 To Get LDAC Codec Would My BTR7 Interfere With the Bathys Own Internal DAC
Hey El Jefe, if you like Salsa and voice separation, check out "Tu Cumpleaños" by Willie Chirino and scroll to 3:04. The voice separation by the chorus is excellent.
I expected these to be head and shoulders above the typical ANC offerings from Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, and Apple. Their true competition are the B&W PX8 and Mark Levinson No 5909. Can't wait to get your opinions on those.
I’ve tried all 3 and it’s pretty subjective, the 5909s are a lot brighter than the other 2 and lack the sheer resolution of the bathys, the PX8 are far more consumer oriented with a more V sound and worse technical performance compared to the other 2, I personally own the bathys so there may be a bit of bias but they’re my pick of the 3, and they sound a lot better with an EQ than from factory
though the bathys lack the pure intensity and energy of the typical focal sound, both texture and impact/slam takes a hit as a compromise of going wireless
@@lakeland6798 It's not subjective at all, never personally heard these but assumed that Focal Elex for example is ok sounding, Bathys should be the best of these three as they are quite close to the original recording unlike the other junk with peeks masking detail, horrible bass and treable boost... Also going wireless doesn't reduce "texture" or "slam", its the different frequency response, you won't hear any difference between wierd and Bluetooth headphone with same tuning (considering that its some newer version of bluetooth like aptxHD).
@@lukabosnjak3829 you will absolutely lose texture and slam when you can’t run the drivers off an external amp directly, and have to rely on the internal DAC
Was thinking of getting xm4, then tried momentum 4, and because of sound quality i ordered but haven't received yet. I've seen this online, but can't try in my country. Is there a real sound difference than m4? For me m4 is much more than xm4 or xm5. Will it worth that much? Since u ranked m4 after bathys, i think i will be happy with m4.
Get the anker life q30, apply Oluv's (or my 😅) eq and enjoy in higher sound quality than most (incl sony, momentum and basically everything) although not sure if they sound better than this Focal here...
@@lukabosnjak3829 i am not sure it it that easy. I don't think u can replicate the bass character or cristal clear sound of a high end with just eq. There can be some improvement, but not much.
@@rizakayan Actually it is and its quite logical, if driver can play 20hz-20khz without some distortion or artifacts at a decent volume - with EQ you can make it to sound better than anything else with tuning that is smooth, perceived as flat and neutral to human ear. All of these tearms like slam, crispness, sound stage are nonsense (of course with better drivers and components you get more "potential") because with correct frequency response (tuning) all of that improves for example if treable is smooth with no peeks there's nothing that is masking other frequency and it reveals much more detail... That Anker model (q30) is alredy tuned quite smoothly and you just need to "shape it" correctly to make it more neutral - EQ.
Hi everyone ! Hi sir Jefe ! Can someone help me please??!!! 😢😢😢 i received my focal bathys. In BT they work fine. But they don’t work on dac mode with my iphone 12 pro. I tried lightning to usb c cable (6 different cable), nothing work! When i put the dac mode in hear a bip sound in my earcups, but the sound plays on iphone’s speaker 😮😮 i tried with iphone 12 pro max (my wife), nothing worked. I tried with an iphone x, sr and 11… nothing worked on dac mode 😮😮😮 Please help :) thank you
Fantastic review. Was really tempted in getting these after selling my B&O H95’s (wasn’t happy with the comfort / low volume even in highest settings / and the fatigue I would get after wearing them for a few hours for nearly 1k). Ended up ordering the Bowers & Wilkins PX8 after lots of comparisons, reviews and forum searching vs the Bathys. Would love to see a review of them if you are able to get a review unit + comparison to the Focal Bathy’s in your knowledgeable opinion!
I really enjoyed your live stream yesterday. I am also very happy to see you back at work. I was especially delighted to see what you and others are doing to honor your wife. God is good and Heaven is real. God bless you my brother.
First of all: sorry to hear about your loss... This is the first time I visited your channel, and I like your style. Keep it going.... As for the inability to use the Bathys passively, my guess is that the analogue input is converted to digital before it is fed to the DAC of the Bathys.
Thanks for the review. Several things that come to mind. The built quality is ok, it does have black plastic around the cans. One feature that it missing that way cheaper headphones have, pausing the media when not on the ears, THERE IS NO SENSOR!!!!. Bad in my book. On this price range, Sennheiser ,the Sony don’t come even close. Better compare with Marc Levinson 5909 and or Bang & Olufson Beoplay h95 or Bowers & Wilkins PX8 . Many customers have had an issue with these headphones, developing a high pitch noise when turn on . Has led to some outlets to stop selling them ,cause of the returns of high priced devices. Peace
Maybe you must test the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 s2 more people like this one as a alrounder hifi more better than the Bathys. Also because of the Price Bathys € 799 PX7 s2 € 450 even € 420 somewhere.
This is not a consumer product, more for the audiophile market, Focal fans will not mind buying another pair when the battery dies in 2 or 3 years because they can afford it.
For sound alone? No. For build quality? Absolutely! Edifier basically took their W830BT and swapped in new drivers and improved electronics. But the build quality is the same as a $50-$100 headphone.
Oh. Yeah. These are the Drop + DCA Aeon Open X. I never reviewed them. I just love how they sound and they are incredibly comfortable. Can wear them for 8-10 hours a day easily.
Focal probably first, Airpods are second, sony and momentum are mot even close. Just look at the frequency response measurement of all of these and everything is clear. 👍
These rather overrated, overhyped headphones were clearly tuned to a very specific sound, and unfortunately it is a veiled, dull sound. If you don't know the price of these, and you listen to them blind, you would think these are much cheaper.
