Picked mine up for $379. One of my fav. headphones. I'm not a bass head so bass is fine for me. There is a uniqueness to the Elegia sound and I like it. Makes me think I need to break them out and give them a listen.

I got a pair of Elegia for $399 from Adorama a couple years ago. I loved the design and build. But, after three months of play time I could not get a wow moment with them. IMO, they are simply boring. I enjoyed my DT177X much more, so I sold the Elegia. The good news is, I got $399 for them. I was reluctant to try focal again. Then I saw the Elex on sale at Drop for $599. Out of the box the Elex gave me chill bumps with a warm but detailed sound and very good imaging and a realistically open soundstage. I find the Elex sits nicely between my HD660s and my ZMF Atrium in mids and vocal presentation. I mostly enjoy your videos. Thank you! Note: I use both SE and balanced cables. I ran these cans on the BTR5, SMSL-9 stack and SMSL-SU9/xDuoo TA-20 rig. I use CD's, Tidal Masters and I listen between 75-85db at the cups.

This is the headphone that convinced me that EQ is worthwhile. When I EQ my Elegia the bass has such a strong energy with music like Korn or EDM.

Spot on review and thank you so much for pointing out these had ports under the focal logo. Pad swapping to Dekoni sheep skin produced a more neutral sound signature but had an abundance of sub bass that went just high enough to be bothersome on some tracks. I removed the focal badge, put some black electrical tape over the port and replaced the badge. Bass response much improved. Feel kinda bad because after further inspection this was clearly a well engineered bass port that someone at focal worked very hard on.

Got mine at round 500 when the price decreased from 900 to that. Been very very happy with it. IMHO well balanced across the frequency range, clear, detailed, not sybilant, enough clear bass and voices that really match my preference especially female's. Very comfortable after a few days of adjustment as the clamp slackens a bit. All in all a true good purchase at this price and, I think, a true representative of high end headphones. This is evident when you match it against hd6xx, he400i, 1more triple, m40x with deep pads and maybe a tad better than the dt880 600 ohms because of better bass (deeper and more present w/o being overwhelming). Anyway I do like all of them, each with its own personality...but the Elegia is really good! :-)

I didnt believe in burning in drivers until I got mine today. The bass was super slow for the first 2 hours I almost thought my 170 dollar headphones were better. I never knew focal said that till just now

I had a chance to listen to Elegia recently. I think It's a very good close back headphone at discount price (about 400$), but at MSRP, Elegia comes nowhere near as good as my TH610.

I thought about getting some Focal headphones for quite some time now. My biggest concern has always been their build quality. The message boards are filled with complaints saying the headphones stop working shortly after the warranty period.

I've never heard this here and I'm based in France, where Focal is headquartered. For sure shit happens, but not more nor less than the average established brand for headphones. You should give them a try. I've always been impressed by their dynamic punch. Elegia provided tremendous value if you get it at a discount price. The Radiance is lovely. The stellia is stunning but pricey. Assuming you're looking for closed back...

@@raphaelmeillat8527 If I did get a pair, it would be the Utopia. I do not mind paying for a good product but I've read enough about what I posted previously. My listening sessions only happen once a month at best (maybe less), and I also have many other headphones. I would hate to use these a few times during the warranty period and then have to deal with an issue after it's over (It has happened before with other brands).

@@raphaelmeillat8527 as someone who has worked in the service department at a hifi store for a year and a half now, it's extremely rare that we get any focal products back, with the exception of the bathys for bluetooth/battery issues. the few we have had to send in in my time here were mostly customers being picky about pad discolouration (stellia) or cable issues

They’re very different, night and day. The Elegia is closer to neutral, has noticeably greater detail, soundstage, clarity, and separation. The 99 is bassier, and presents more intimate vocals.

For me to consider any closed back, it has to surpass Austrian Audio X60 in terms of comfort, build and sound quality. I doubt this headphone will.

I can tell you that the Elegia is much better then the X 60. I have both and i am very Patriotic and from Vienna, but Soundwise for me the Elegia has "the Magic" and the so called Wow Factor for me, that so many other HP miss. And I am an addict! I have easy over 50 HP incl. inears. Greetings from Vienna!

For me it,s overall a draw in Detail. The X55 and the X65 ( which I had at home for 2 weeks ) are better in Detail, but not by much, at least to my ears.

I had both. I can also assure you the Elegia is ahead of the X60 in almost every regard. Better use of higher grade materials, at least equal build quality and foremost better sound quality for pure music enjoyment. Mixing, mastering, that's not my use case. Then it could be the other way round. Biggest difference is the bass which is, in typical Focal quality, really deep extended and punchy, no contest here.

I suggest you do a review of the VE Megatron amp. I am super impressed with the high powered 'portable' amp (with two types of balanced connections) for only $50. It can even drive 600 ohm headphones.

I wouldn't buy Focal, their headbands have a tendency to snap in half, suddenly and without reason (i.e. no rough handling, or stressing the joint in any way.). There's also no good way to DIY repair it, without high expense, and know how.

I listen right know with the Elegia paired with the Zen DAC V2 and Tidal MQA the Album Curtis from Curtis Mayfield and it,s just fantastic!!! Before i listened for 2 hours with Quobuz CD Quality and Hi RES with my HE 400 which was good to, but to me MQA with the Eligia and the ZEN DAC V2 pairs so well, almost (or) perfect to me! I don,t care what other People say: MQA is a Hoax blablabla.... Right now i have Tidal Master, Amazon HD and Ultra HD, Qobuz Hi Res, to me Tidal MQA Sounds the Best! At least with the Elegia! I Love this HP!!!

Lots of MQA haters out there who haven't even listened thoroughly to MQA tracks or just don't like the fact that MQA requires extra licensing fees and equipment to render/decode. So they spread a bunch of misinformation and lies, trying to make people hate on MQA too. Personally, I can hear a pretty big difference with MQA tracks and other "HD" streaming tracks, and I usually enjoy MQA more than non-MQA "Hi-Res" music files. I still prefer well-recorded FLAC files over everything else though, when it comes to digital music files.

I can't say what you'd like, but given the information you provided, the Sundara and M1070 are probably not going to have "good bass". These planners have a bass roll-off. The Elegia is also not a bassy headphone. You may want to do some research on the Sivga Phoenix, Base Audio G12, Rode NTH100, and Monoprice HR5C.

If you like the 1060C, then the 1070C will offer a little more detail and clarity--but to be honest, comfort might be a problem. The new Monolith headphone design isn't as comfortable as the older designs. But...that's just my impression.

Price way higher than r70x and sound overal worse in all aspects. Dont buy these or Elear. Focal Clear notMG (for god sake) maybe at same level or a notch higher than r70x. MG is also meh sounding, a bit better than elegia/elear. They like bad hd800s.

I have ath-ad2000x (ideal opens for me which I love more than LCD2) but I want to change my closed pair (akg k371) to something better. Because I can hear how k371 is lacking details in comparasing with 2000x. Thinking about D7200. But is it a good choice...

Dear RU-vidr, you listen to too much commercial music at a high bass pace. Listen to great music, harmoniously rich, complex and subtle (Beethoven, Liszt, Mahler, Bartok, Webern or Gershwin, or great jazz works of the 30s, 40s or 50s) and you will understand that the pronounced or close basses in the head destroy the natural sound of the works, the pronounced basses are even contrary to the spirit of any musical work worthy of the name (which obviously excludes popular or vulgar "music" (including first the disaster brought by the rap of "monsieur everyone").

I honestly eq the bass up on classical music so whatever… but I will back you up because the other day with the ndh-20 I listened to tchaichovsky and john Williams and for the first time, I enjoyed listening to the classical genre with headphones. I’m now looking for more forgiving headphones though

But not in Europe! !! You US-Americans are so fucking lucky!!! I bought my Elegia in France in a Bundle with the Dragonfly Black for 480€ and that was the Best Deal ever in Europe for the Elegia!!! 299$?, oh my god!!! We cannot buy from the Us Market so easily! Thanks to the fucking EU!!! Only Switzerland was so Clever to stay out of this Vampire and criminal Organisation! By the way, i am from Austria and i have the X25, X55, X60 but i do not agree with some People. The Elegia is Superior in Soundstage (on some Tracks, on others not ) and on the same Level in Details with the X 60 in my Opinion, but with a much better Bass and Sub Bass and also the Treble is not that fatigiuing as the X 60 is. The good thing was, that i bought the X 60 for 278€ and some things I like more about it, especially for some Types of Music, the Weight, the Design and Build Quality is better in my Opinion. They Sound totally Different. Both are Unique! THX to No Theme Rewiews! You are by far my Favourite! But of course i have not always the same Opinion!

Every Intelligent and Independent European with enough Money , leave Europe, in many Main Citys there is practically the Sharia Muslim right! And there are many so called " No go Areas" where the Police and "White People, Caucasians" cannot go anymore. Failed states or at least failed Citys like Sweden, France, England, Germany, and so on. The Inflation gets higher and higher and the criminal statistics also. If i could i would leave Europe as soon as possible, maybee to Southeast Asia, India or South America (Urugay)! Or at least to Hungary!!!

@@ludwigflatscher2057 Yes, import tax has been a bit of a saving grace, for me, keeping me below a certain budget on my puchases....in fact, the only time I have bought anything over $200 is when I visit the US directly.
