Way out of my price range, but thank you for sharing your perspectives and these speakers with us all. Always good to see how the rest of the world listens. Stay well, Sir.
Even if they were in my price range, I still think that I can get more sound for the money with a full tower. Bookshelf speakers to me still always sound small. The law of physics still apply here.
Thanks for an enjoyable video, it is good to see a video where inexpensive items are compared to more expensive ones, we do not see enough of this. It was also interesting to see that vintage speakers compare well to their modern equivalent.
I have a focal aria 906 at home, when I mentioned to the dealer that I would upgrade them with a kanta...he told me that who in their right mind would pay that much for speakers. They are better, but the price is unjustifiably high for what you get. So I abandoned the idea of replacing the speakers. It is important to know that this dealer is not the owner of the audio store, he is employed there, but he is a very experienced hi-fi enthusiast... I don't know what the owner would say to all this.😂
I love the interaction between you and Lenny. I use a $49.00 Sony Blu Ray player as a transport and I feel fine. Looking at Tom and Lenny's beards I just realized something. I know where Jimmy Hoffa is. LOL
Nope, you ain't the "cheap" guy Bob and Randy would agree. Still a nice comparison on some seriously nice speakers. The first CD I bought would have been Bowie Changes 1. I bought Miles Davis Milestones and Dire Straights Bothers in Arms the next day though and still remember listening to them and being amazed compared to the vinyl copies I already owned that they sounded so "clean" by comparison. If I only knew then what I know now. Thanks Bob, great video.
Yet to find a speaker which isn't improved by a sub. When I got my Elysian 4 floorstanders, I thought that would be it.Yes, they sound great without a sub. Yes, they go nice and low. But....with twin subs, they are just more satisfying. I have just started restoring a pair of Tannoy Eaton's. We will see, but I bet they will end up with a sub also. Those Focal,s are nice, but I think their design language looks better on a floorstander.
I say you need to challenge the Focals. The new SVS bookie at 1200.00 might give them a run for the money. You better be careful, they don't call Lenny ,crazy for nothing lol.😂
Nice video Bobfather! 😎👍🏽👍🏽 My top end choice would be the Wharfedale Super Denton pair @ $1.4 K married to the appropriate subwoofer. 🔊🔊 I'm a firm believer in Subwoofers . . . I put that Sh** on Everything!! 😉🔊😂😂 Unfortunately, I don't have any room for tower speakers per the Mrs . . . oh well. 😜🤓
I absolutely adore my Focal Kanta #2's. And 9 times out of 10 I can leave my sub off while listening to 2-channel music on them. BTW, Bob you'd be more than welcome to come by Austin home if you want to give them a listen. Feel free to ask Joe @ Origin about me (great guy -- I bought my Kantas from him:) But please note: Lenny is not invited!
Great performer ?we are talking about the speaker ... Just can't afford to pay that much for a speaker especially in Canadian funds. Probably about 12000ca. Thanks for the humour though. 😂 Talk soon. Oh yeah I'm not Cheap I'm just sensible and like to dream within my means.😂I had to watch the video twice to get you. Especially after getting up early.
Flax cone woofer. You keep them around the house for when you just need some soluble fiber. I own the Focal Theva No.3-D x4, Theva Center and Theva Surrounds and... eh. They're okay. I don't love them. I'm going to replace the lot with Dali Oberon 9's front, 7's sides, Center center, Surround's back, 3's for front Atmos and 1's for side Atmos. I just don't love these Focals. I don't hate them, but absolutely don't love them. It's nice to be out of the hospital though (darn lungs and DM1!).
$8K for a pair of bookies? How can they be that good? Many, many great performers in the bookshelf categories can be purchased for much less. Huge floorstanders can be purchased for a fraction of that price.
