Hey my friend, I purchased z1r( like the headphone version of w80) and Ether C Flow ( which reminds me of stax system). I do miss some airiness from open back, but close back has great bass and the feeling of reverence
I have the Elex. I enjoy it a lot. The bass imo is pretty deep and neutral. Fast, almost as planar drivers. I’m not very good with describing technicalities but to my ears the tonality of the mid range is on par with the 600 Seinnheiser series (650, 6XX, 660) but more resolving. Just a very natural presentation all around. Some folks even prefer it to the Clears but I have not heard them so I cannot speak. It’s probably the best value for the price from the whole Focal lineup especially considering that build quality is pretty much the same for the Elex, Elear and Clear
klucohor I have all three. Elear, Clear, Elex. I purchased in that order too. They are similar but each sound different enough that I appreciate all three.
Hey Steph, what a great review. Thank you for the Sense Of Airyness - thats it. Asolutly! Me I Started saving for the Elegia 2 months ago- After listening to them at a nearby munich High End Dealer.. Mainly because budget and d-returns - there is no way I can get a ok from my wife for the shown product. My main interest is soundstage. Of course comcort and detail. Espacially closed back is the problem / interesting next Milestone for me. I do have great open back headfones but need/want something to listen next to my wife on the Couch or at the office. How would you start a comparison with the Aeon closed, the Elegia and others in the sub 1000 range?
Hey Steph! I know of some differences of closed and open back headphones but I tend to use closed back because I don't like others hearing my audio since I need to play my music loud. Great video and interesting looking Stellia headphones.
Can I use the Dragonfly audioquest to drive the Campfire Andromeda's?(or the audio Vegas) I really want to listen to their full potential. I was told that it wouldn't sound as good if you use a phone as your audio source.
Great reviews. However while I think it’s good that you try so hard to give a very positive review it sometimes doesn’t come across as honest. Your reviews have a feel to them as if you are a paid spokesperson as opposed to an honest and unbiased review. I guess it’s because I’ve never seen one of your reviews where you advised against purchasing. There are a lot of great headphones but they all aren’t great. You even try to turn any negative into a positive. Unfortunately that may lead to a person wasting their money on a really bad headphone. I don’t mean to offend you. I really want to hear your opinion, but it comes across as no matter what its shortcomings you will still recommend.
Heya William! I appreciate this! Thanks for the feedback. And you're right! I do give positive reviews. I talk about the things a pair of headphones does well because I think "good" and "bad" are subjective things for most of the characteristics I mention. For example, a headphone that is uncomfortable for one person might fit another person really well. Depends on your ear shape and head size, -- which is why you might perceive that I'm turning a negative into a positive. But the truth is, a negative might genuinely be a positive for someone else. Likewise, some folks like neutral sounds, some like a big bass, some like XYZ things different, so I talk about the things a headphone does well. If there is a product that is objectively bad, I simply won't review it. I don't want to give the company or the headphone the press. But if it is something that I think someone would really enjoy at the given price-point, I'll review it and try to explain what type of person would like it. But yeah, also, it's part of my personality to be positive :) There are plenty of negative reviewers out there, and that's one reason I encourage folks who are buying to check out other reviewers' perspectives as well, regardless of their stance on a product.
MajorHiFi Thank you! I appreciate your reviews I guess what I look for is an actual recommendation and why. When you minimize the negative and go so far to turn every negative into a positive it makes it difficult to purchase an expensive headphone. I don’t have the luxury to actually demo expensive headphones before purchasing. If I had retailers where I could try and take a week to verify that the headphone does everything I need it to then my need for reviews/recommendations might not be so important to me. Question? If price didn’t matter which one of the Audeze LCD Headphones would you recommend as a Must Buy? My favorite genre of Music is Jazz. I love artist that utilize horns,piano, guitar , vocals etc. I look for great separation and a wide soundstage. Acoustic music.etc. If not Audeze what Headphone Brand would you recommend Thanks William
