@mountainviews46 Yep,exactly, my wife and I are both from big families, 6 and 8 kids, both our parents worked two jobs to bring us all up successfully, always went to school with a packed lunch,rode our bikes every day to get there as neither family even had a car,all had a good education and had trades etc including nursing ,both families were bought up in loving families in our own warm homes, none of us in both families have ever been on a benifit or been in prison we now have our own kids doing well in their own fields. Rest assured our lives havnt been easy but we were taught that you don't go through life expecting someone's hard earned tax money to drive your lifestyle. Success can only be achieved in life by hard work and every day trying to better yourself.

@@rihipaeahughes9831 The aim is to work, not stay on Winz .. the gravy train is the no. of years…generational .. that able bodied people stay on the unemployment benefit. I know those who do. And yes they are struggling on the Winz payment but still refuse to look at working options offered…they are so stuck in a self perpetuating survival rut.. it’s sad and I know that if working, they would happier.

@@adsdft585 they put me on jobseekers as I clearly said! I had nothing extra because my treatment was curative not terminal. I returned to work 3 mths later, supposedly on light duties, got caught in a sale of the business and had no leave entitlement, and straight back into full duties and burnt out and impacted my recovery.

@@delinquentinparadise When I was young, I used to give tuition apart from my full time job and learning a new language. I do not socialise unnecessary and buy rubbish and read good books. I look at my peers and it very clear who are the wise ones that will have sufficient money to see them through and not only that leave monies for their children and grandchildren education needs and who are the ones wasting their time away.

Can’t agree more! As a former MSD customer representative, I have seen far too many young people who called in on their 18th birthday to get onto the Jobseeker benefit and “professionally” stay on it. I personally believe that benefit like Jobseeker support should have been “just enough to live”. This means there is no room for entertainment like Netflix, fancy gifts for special occasion, and ciggies. I had received calls from people who spent money on smoke or special meals and have no money to get the next meal. I also had received calls from people who reckon they are “smart in maths” and argue that the minimum wage is a “trap” because it’s not enough for them to pay for gas and there is too much risk in working for someone who won’t give you a pay rise next year. Calculations tell me, they are better off sitting on benefit for as long as they can. “It’s stress-free and you don’t do stupid work you don’t like.” They added. My conclusion? Well, NZ needs a better education system that’s friendly on both young generations and the teachers. No good education means no future for the country.

@@tkyen3mate there is no excuse for not working, iv seen a truck driver with one arm work 12 hour days on a class 5 truck n trailer,,, iv seen autistic ppl working in a factory in papatoe,i had a work nate that had an accident at work and cut all his fingers off on one hand, turned up to work the following month or so and got straigt back into work, there is tonnes of ppl doing it hard but refuse to give up, they should have a maximim time limit of 3 months and if u cant find work too bad doll cut!

The issue you have is that living costs are high. Also. You're not eligible for welfare in Australia unless your a citizen or permanent resident. So if you lose your job. Your fucked. More of your money goes in food, rent and power. All are a lot higher in Australia. Neither country is better than the other. Pay is lower here but cost of living is lower here. Over there. You earn more but you pay more

Then i did a few 6 months work scams. My first full time job was with the Electric power board laying underground cables. Its 2024, people should be creating their businesses, now we have the World Wide Web.

​@@mvb88 That's incorrect. I move back and forth between NZ and Aus. Not only are wages better in Australia but food, goods and services are far cheaper than they are in NZ. Housing is about the same but due to wages being higher you have much more purchasing power in Aus. There's also a tax free threshold in the Australian tax brackets, which doesn't exist in NZ. GST is also lower, and because Australia invests more into infrastructure, roading and public transport people and goods are able to move around more efficiently, which lowers costs across the economy. In NZ official's are struggling to run train's and politicians are still treating infrastructure like a political football.

I'll put it this way. New Zealand employs a lot of people for a reason. If kiwis wanted to work. Employers would employ them. No it's not because foreigner are cheaper as they cost the same as a kiwi. Laws state you must pay the same regardless of culture, gender and religion.

I put it this way the foreigner have the Trade experience qualifications and are most times good at their job. The cost to get a trade in NZ is a lot and can take years. Thats years without income @@mvb88

@@mvb88 I absolutely agree in principle, however I'm always skeptical seeing some employers seemingly only employing immigrants. We see too many stories in the news of these people being taken advantage of with immigration scams and unpaid wages etc. If everyone was paid the same for the same job etc I don't think we'd see the sorts of concentrations of immigrants that we see in some places.

Probably one of the worst thing to have when looking for a job is a very negative begrudging and entitled attitude - a great big turn off for any employer. The economy is fragile we need everyone to pull their own weight.

Why should it only be males? Why should it be compulsory? You have those who volunteer for such services, and this allows more flexibility in the workforce. Mandatory service also infringes on freedom of choice, in what people do with their lives. If your sole purpose for mandatory service is to instill discipline then mandatory service is unnecessary, because it's better to leave that to schools, parents and other social influences to teach. At the end of the day people should have the right to choose whether they wish to serve or not, but a mandatory system isn't going to solve disciplinary issues.
