90% of acting is voice control. you get the right voice, your body will naturally feel the emotions and start acting as if you were actually physically feeling them
its hard for most to automatically just feel emotions if they aren't caused by any. i'm luckily blessed to be able to automatically make myself (ex.) feel sad or scared but not so much angry, so as long as i start yelling and breathing as if i were angry then i'll usually start feeling angry and then i express it a lot
@@idkhow I'm the opposite, actually. I can literally showcase/portray any and every type of emotion physically speaking, I can even cry on cue, but my issue is with voice control... I can't seem to be able to act with my voice
Robert, I just want to say a big "Thank You" for sharing this. I truly truly appreciate it. All my years training in LA, no one has ever put it as simple and effective as you did. I kept wondering why it was so difficult for me to connect with the characters I audition for or if I'm in my head to much...but it made complete sense what you just said. I suppressed so much of my emotions, it's no wonder I couldn't deliver raw truth. Thank you for the light switch. 😊💡
Johnny Marlin emotion is actually 80% os acting. Once you feel what your character needs to feel, the rest will follow. You’ll understand the plot and the line will come easily
A good movie to do this with is Stuck in Love. It is on Netflix and is one of my favorites. The emotions of the actors help you open up yourself. They seem to emote in a free way and I feel all of the emotion every single time I watch it. I've seen it at least ten times!
Before I watched this video, I was doing this while watching Law and order in the same settings as he described. Law & order svu is very emotionally evocative and extremely interesting. I feel surprised, angry, I even cry. Try it :)
Great advice! I was just sat here listening to what you were saying while picturing a scene from the movie Warm Bodies (a sad one, to me) and i started crying. Definitely works! I usually use this method when I need to draw on emotions for acting in my web series (I have some quite dramatic scenes were I break down or get really mad)
Help full thanks.im trying to get free lessons on acting cause im trying to get in to acting. Acting been my dream sence I was 4.I been trying to sigh up for acting a long time ago.and im still trying.im really good.
I'm amazed by the pioneering ideas in this content. A similar book I read inspired substantial changes in my life. "The Art of Meaningful Relationships in the 21st Century" by Leo Flint
(Cont'd) Ladies in wearing a hoopskirt in a period piece, lift the skirt just lightly while running. I once watched in horror how an actress so sought after by the name Diane Varsi was executing a run in a long, to the ground dress, and honestly I thought she would fall flat, it was such a clumsy attempt. I would've thought the wearing of the long dress would be part of acting school. Women of the 30s were superb in wearing the long dress and running while lifting the skirt slightly.
That was news for me that the arms and feets is kind protect you against emotions. But it makes sense in a evolutional prespective when attacted we protect our self.
I've always wanted to act ever since I was a little kid. I've been watching your videos lately and they've been helping me out a lot. These videos are great! Can't wait for more of them! :D
(Con't) running as if in a chase or on the trail of a criminal, don't run as if in running the 100 yard dash as many an actor has a tendency to do. Crouch, with arms spread out as if about to fly. But for heaven's sake, do not give your audience to understand you've just heard the whistle and start running as if in the 100 yard dash.
And will acting instructors please teach the novice that all screaming and yelling at the top of the voice is more realistic when generated from the diaphragm. I was a sci fi in which an earthquake is plundering southern California. The screaming doesn't ring true since it is generated from the throat. Listen to anyone pissed off and those baleful emotions generate from the diaphragm. In song it's called belting. Go to a beach and shout from the diaphragm.
Stupid as most actors are. Always emotion emotion, emotion. Why don't you start with thinking and understanding? The emotion comes in second place and comes by itself when you understand the character rightly.
