Tried of testing Alkalinity? Want Rock Solid alkalinity levels? Well, the Alkatronic may be for you! I have been running the alkatronic for about 6 weeks now and many have asked me for an update.. so here we go! www.saltwatera...
So is an alkalinity monitor for you? Well if you are a fan of automation then it is a great tool! If using it in monitor mode it makes tuning your dosing or reactor a breeze and helps alert you of any changes in your system.. when using it to dose and tweak your levels could help give you that rock solid stable parameters that help SPS thrive.

True. Good points. Finding that stable tanks after a few months often can just be viewed and not tested, as long as you are sensitive and diligent to general maintenance. Good job! Thanks.

The updated apex controller has ph and orp ports. Did you plug the alkatronic into the orp port since ph port is already in use?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 4 года назад
Yep. Change it to a PH port in the apex settings then calibrate it to the ph on the alkatronic

Did I hear that right? Some people put the waste water with spent reagent back into the tank?!? that seems like an awful idea. I see hazmat markings on lot of my test kit reagents. Please tell me people aren't tossing reagents into the tank...
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
Apparently its safe to do.. From Jonas the creator of it " If you take a natural substance like for instance Calcium, BUT put it in a bottle highly concentrated, then it is very dangerous to drink it. That labels is to protect YOU from drinking it. But using it in correct concentration is something else. That’s 100% safe like it’s safe to have salt (NaCl) in the food, but not healthy to drink the bottle of potassium chloride. Etc etc. So these labels are to tell you what to not do. Thus do not drink it. And do not pour 100 litre of it in tank. Example: one week of measure if you measure every 4 hour , tank is 500 l, the only element that is added (and that is already existing in the tank in huge amount) is increased by 1% after one year. And the element is actually needed as it is one of the major beneficial macroelements."

@focustronic831 5 лет назад
yes, it is absolutely safe to dump the test water into the tank. many people are doing the same and so I am even for my 60L nano tank. have a look at "unofficial" group with more info facebook.com/groups/168117720788273/

What is cost? What is cost of reagents? What is the maintenance requirements? Can you easily move it from one tank to another? What is the warranty? How hard to calibrate, recalibrate?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
All that information can be found in the link in the description.. but ill see what i can do! Cost $999 Reagent $110 for the concentrated solution. 4L which you mix at a ratio of 1:4 with rodi. on my current schedule of every 12 hours i would get about 1.5 years out of the bulk reagent yes you could move it.. you would just have to re prime all of the lines with the new tanks water. calibrate is just checking the pumps accuracy and- re-calibrating if needded.

So you can program Apex based on Alkatronic’s reading to turn on/off calc reactor if something goes strange. It’s not just throwing up a graph to show you the test results?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 4 года назад
The graph is test points. I have it test every 12h. Yes you could get apex to turn on and off or alkatronic has a bluetooth plug it can control so you dont even need an apex to do that

I'm curious how much tank water is sitting in the tube between the tank and the Alkatronic compared to how much water it uses every test? Let's say there's 20ml in the tube and each test uses 20ml of water, then you're really testing the alkalinity of the tank at the time of the last test (when the water was pulled into the tube). I'm just wondering if this effect is significant or if they've thought of some way around this (like does the Alkatronic throw out the first 20ml of water before making a test)?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
Noel Davis I actually just watched it do a test for you. Drains water from test beaker . Flushes water line. Drains again then fills and tests So old water in the lines should now be an issue :)
@DwightMcCharles

I think you meant to say not be an issue.

The Alkatronic doesn't dose, per say. It lane keeps, maintaining the alkalinity between the high and low values you decide. It may seem a mute point , but you still dose as per your normal dosing system (my case via APEX and their DOS units). You can connect the Alkatronic via BNC to the APEX or other controller. Should the alkalinity detected by the Alkatronic drift above the high level you set, you program the Apex to not dose. Should the alkalinity drift below the low point you set, the Alkatronic has a single channel dose pump that doses alkalinity separately to bring the dkh back between the levels you have set. Based on what you have seen either too high a kh dosage or too low a kh dosage, you adjust the dosing system you use (in my case the Apex DOS) Its not strictly dosing, in the traditional way we think of it, its maintaining boundaries. I just had 2 weeks holiday and it did an amazing job when my dkh drifted too low. I was then able to increase the normal dosage via APEX fusion from half way around the world. It is one of the best bits of kit I have bought for my aquarium. Expensive but worth it 10 /10 and amazing customer service too :)

When I win the 60 million on Friday I will definitely be getting one for my 10 000 gallon build 💰 if I only win 1 million I’ll get it for the tanks I have lol. How long would it take to fill that space saver bottle and Is this possibly one of the reasons why your salinity dropped to 1.023?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
it uses about 50 ml per test so its part of it! Lesson to be learned.. check salinity more often!
@atfinthehouse8631
@atfinthehouse8631 5 лет назад
Are there devices like this that can test: salinity, ph, calcium, magnesium, other elements?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
There is a Reefbot which can test using your own liquid test kits, Aside from that all of the ones currently on the market just test alkalinity.
@atfinthehouse8631
@atfinthehouse8631 5 лет назад
Expensive but thanks. That’s about $100/month first 12 months. Can do ICP for $30-40/month.
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
The main difference is ICP is a snapshot of all of your parameters once a month, where this machine can test your alkalinity anywhere from every 2-12hours automatically every single day... not just a once a month. You can also use it to dose for you to keep your levles stable via 2part or through controling a calcium reactor ect. so not exactlay a direct comparrsion as they are very different methods/goals.
@sheldonjessup
@sheldonjessup 5 лет назад
Why did you prefer this one, over the KH Director from GHL?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
I havent seen a ton on the KH Director yet... You do need a GHL doser to go with it which brings it up to a comparable price range. I have been following the alkatronic for a while with positive results.

This only test for alkalinity?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
Yes sir. If your doing balanced or using a calcium reactor then as long is alk is on track then everything else should be as well.. i do still test the other once a month or so just to confirm its all on track.
@cubanreefer1582
@cubanreefer1582 5 лет назад
ReefDudes yup I have a Geos calcium reactor but this is a very interesting machine, something to consider having in the near future. Thank you! Deven Are you coming to Orlando Macna or reefApalooza?
@ReefDudes
@ReefDudes 5 лет назад
@@cubanreefer1582 i'm hoping too! Macna pretty much for sure. RAP we will see if i can find a cheap flight! i did have alot of fun last year. Alkatronic is super handy when paired with a calcium reactor as it your daily check that its all on track.. if you see it trend in one direction or the other you make a tiny tweak to the reactor and your back in business!
