This the Intermediate Medium Mobility Load Carrier (IMMLC) trial at RARDE Chobham. Cross country at Long Valley Aldershot. Great Truck. I was lucky enough to help by doing the maint assesment.
Brings back some good memories. I was responsible for carrying out tyre maintenance on the DROPS fleet at Kineton many moons ago. Loved every minute despite the sheer hard work. Brute of a vehicle.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost the password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Jalen Trent i really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jalen Trent DAMN IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Literally got access to my IG login within roughly 45 mins of using the site. Just had to pay 15$ but for sure worth the money :O Thanks so much, you saved my account !
Amazing story how Foden got the massive contract for these beasts. Came down to their ability to manufacture most components in house. I know first hand Foden wanted to use a Cummins engine, the RR eagle that the M.O.D insisted on leaked oil badly. When Foden confronted them about this they said it was a feature of the engine. The M.O.D accepted that. Great truck
A real beast!Strong and reliable.I doubt the modern stuff is anywhere near as good.....Unfortunately we are unable to do anything in this country anymore.Sad,but true!
My thoughts exactly. Wonder what it would cost for road tax/ insurance etc, and what classification of licence to drive it? Can buy them for around 26 k £ now…..
@@supertramp6011 I wouldn't run it on the roads, just private land. If society collapsed and you needed bug out vehicle law won't really hold any weight.😉 It sure would be interesting to find out though, bloody expensive I'd imagine. Also I think due to the sheer monstrous size you have to get a special permit and specify route etc in advance to highways agency and other bits of red tape.
@@zefrog7482 No highway agency notification to move or drive - all the dimensions are within allowed standard limits for trucks so don't fall under any STGO requirements. GVW falls inside the standard too (32 tonnes for 4 axle rigid). They look bigger then they are because of the tall stance and huge tyres. These have nearly all been retired from the army now and have been available for sale 'demobbed' from MOD disposal companies for years. You could probably get a tidy(ish) one for £15-20K. To drive one on the road though you'd need a class 2 HGV (C license catergory) Tax not that bad if registered as a 'private' hgv and insurance often available fairly cheaply through military vehicle club memberships ect. Cool as they are I'd say something that does at best, 6mpg would be a pretty useless bug out vehicle. Blow a tyre out and it's all over - your not going to find another one anywhere.
I seem to remember getting several bollockings for taking MKs,MJs and RLs off the beaten track.....everybody seemed to be scared of getting stuck....or damaging the vehicles.....never pushed their capabilities.......
@@steffiebee5224 20K that all! Wish my drive was a lot bigger! Although 🤔 sell the house buy some land and turn it into an RV, get hgv/appropriate training+licence. Mmmmm. I'm full of impractical pipe dreams.
Awesome beast. And can do all that whilst carrying a 20' container. I am thinking of buying one as an expedition vehicle. A bit big for dodgy mountain road though I suspect?
Good day everyone, I'm working on a truck camper project and was wondering if you guys could give me an objective review of the 8x6 FODEN? Many thanks advance.
MoD specifying 8x6 not 8x8 and only 1 in 3 hillclimbing plus max 70kph seems penny pinching. The spindly looking steering links seem vulnerable to hitting rocks. Sounds good though, with no nasty Cummins noises? (Gardner or Perkins RR here ?)
Hiya Paul he certainly was .cdss Wellingborough was a real nice place to work at . Cummins fuller Rockwell Brilliant combination. My farther worked for Preston's of potto for many years.i also worked there for a while. He had a Seddon Atkinson 400 sleeper with a NTE 290 reg FPY 201V .I remember dad getting it brand new from Longfield Road motors Darlington . I was i think around 13 yrs old . And I was working on that same lorry when I was 27 years old. That was the Days when you could put a pistons liners heads injectors mains etc for 1600 pounds . Those Seddon Atkinson's and ERFs were good friends to Richard Preston they were a good company to.
I remember working as a machanic for Cummins Diesel in 1985 and our Depot manager was having shop talk with us. And said in roughly 25 yes time there will be no ERF Seddon Atkinson foden. What a shame Brill video .
CDSS were a great organisation supporting an excellent engine. At one time operators ran Cummins, Fuller, Rockwell - no longer!! What a perceptive depot manager you had. Paul
great truck, but we used to make great army lorries at aec ltd. ie the militant 0870 and 0880 when I was there in the 1970s.but you had to drive them and they did not have easy change girlie gearboxes.automatic makes you lazy
I'm afraid the truck users (squaddies) didn't have the skill to drive crash-box Militants in arduous conditions. Even I drove a DROPS truck in challenging situations because of its brilliant ZF Ecomat automatic as if I was an expert.
hi. sign of the times. even the new m.a.n. trucks are automatic.the fodens were good looking vehicles and its a pity they are no more like us at aec ltd all gone.
I agree, they looked great - then I always had a soft spot for Fodens, especially the 2 stroke ones!! And yes it's true us old British commercial vehicle guys are slowly disappearing... regards from an old Leyland Motors man 👍🏻
Longcross vehicle testing facility in Surrey. I recognise it because they used to let us hire it to set up stage rallies, before the MOD sold it and it was converted to a film studio.
As Menck W points out that 43mph is way too slow. Anyone here know if it can be geared to go any faster. Im very keen to do something with one of these fine monsters. A true Tonka truck for sure Its the best Ive ever seen really
Put an Allison 12 speed, fully automatic with ability to lock out top 2 gears, like the old world transmission from Allison. Bet that would get you up around 55/60 mph.
