This track is like the essence of what I generally have loved in electronic music since I fell into it 22 years ago. This very special vibe, the spaciousness, the rawness and a hint of naiveness.
Thank you ! 🙏 You felt it, that's me :) i try to put all what i love in electronic music since 30 years, back to the rawness of oldschool culture, with the naiveness of simple melodies i can only make 💜
That's the side of electronic music that got me into Autechre. They don't make the typical dub techno, but their music ranges between spacious, mechanical, industrial, and their newer stuff sounding more and more like it was composed by AI. A great example of a song by them that really sounds like dub techno is Garbagemx36. I used to be obsessed with that song, and the EP it was released in.
This is good because the creative person has spent time to learn there gear, quote, its one thing to own a TB303 but another knowing how to use it, this person has learnt the MC303
Damn yes bro, it is my top 4 vid.. lot of success on this one.. mostly because of the "wow mc303" surprise I guess 😅 I miss it sometimes but I know it is in good hands now so I'm happy 🙂
Holy smokes man!! Awesome stuff! Making the 303 sound fresh, who would have known you can get something like this out of a 23 year old groovebox! Subbed for sure buddy : )
@@krostifmusic no....but....really....do u know how many years and hundreds of conversations about groovebox hate n how it couldn't possibly sound good - the 303 is the only model I never had so I always just assumed maybe dat one was actually crappy before they got full JV synth hearts. Nope. Gattobus' 10 80s covers in 10 mins video alone proved the JDxA to be incredible when there was NO other evidence of that on the net. This is that for 303.
@@DaveDaves Yes I know how much MC303 can be hated.. And secretly, when I decided to make this, I wanted to prove this was wrong, without really knowing if I was going to succeed :) Your comment and some others gave me the answer, and i'm very glad it worked ! I tend to think Gattobus is so much higher level but great you felt like this 🙂 Thanks again 🙏
when these came out (i had one) the dance music scene was on fire. no surprise a machine this "old" had some great sounds. the mc303 was limited but no doubt had some iconic samples built in. really nice to hear them after these years.
Very nice jam! It’s been over 20 years since I had my MC303 and I just ordered one a couple weeks ago. Should be on my door step very soon as it’s coming from Japan. I can’t wait to explore it again with 20 years extra of electronic music experience under my belt. I’m currently relearning the Korg Electribes & Korg MS2000 in the same manor, and I’m discovering I can push them much further then I could back then. Especially with the use of FX pedals that I didn’t use back then. But my over all knowledge of how these pieces of gear work has matured to my advantage. I’ve never looked at the MC303 or 505 as outdated. In fact it’s more of the opposite. It captures its own sound, and that is displayed here in this video.
It was exactly the same for me 😃 these boxes still have a lot to offer today and we can make great stuffs with them. Glad you found one again and hope you will enjoy !! All the best, cheers 🍻
Thank you ! 🙏 Yes, "Dub techno" word can be confusing, and what I've done here is not atmospheric as much as real dub techno artists. But one of the sound signature is the chords with delay 😊
@@krostifmusic Yes, that is one of the most distinguishing sounds. It's a pretty lush sound, and there are many different ways to make that dub keys sound.
you know, as a long time RM1X user, I have always underestimated MC303. this was quite a shock. surprisingly fantastic. my kind of stuff :) it is definitely more about the knowledge/skill and good ears. I love the way you pulled this huge track from the small silver box. Inspiring. thanks. BTW - no post processing?? you are a genius man :)
Many thanks for the compliments 🙏🙏 Lucky you, would love to have an rm1x as number 2, number 1 is Quasimidi rave o lution 309 😀 such great old machines.. For the process, the fact is I use a bit of limiter since few videos just because it sound very lower than "standards" 😕 maybe I should mention it in description.. Thanks for notice that !
MC303 is soooo underestimated. Wanting to get one for years, but reviews put me off every time. Luckily, bought one broken few weeks ago. It's a bit complicated, compared to electribes, but effort pays off in the end. This video will be probably one of those that will encourage people to buy 303s, just like Mihail Shevchenko did with mc505. Please make more mc303 stuff :-)
Thanks a lot! 🙏 I'm a fan of Mihail Shevckenko stuff, especially his EMX1 dub techno liveset, so talented... You're right about a bit complicated, with this box, owner's manual is your best friend 😀, and all these positive feedbacks encourage me to make more mc303 stuff, so yes I will for sure 😊 Cheers !
Just got into the MC303 when I found a fixer-upper for sale dirt cheap. It's in the shop at the moment, but I'm excited to get it back after the pot and switch swap! I'm also coming from the Electribe, so it'll be an interesting learning curve ahead. Love all the sounds I'm hearing so far.
Thanks a lot 😊🙏 Im not a big fan of j6, but the "303" engine of t8 is really powerful and s1 is mind blowing for its size and price ! You don't have all this deep dive sound design with the mc303 🙂
Sick track!🎧👍 that kick drum pattern is actually reminiscent of a track I pulled off a few months ago considering this is two-years-old technically I owe you a a shout-out!😂🙏 sicjam my man! 🎹🎛️🎚️🎧👌 BrAp oN!!!✋✌️
Haha Thanks a lot !! Considering that kicks are not really designable into this machine, I think it has been used thousand times through the decades, so it's all good man !! 😄👊
I have one too, but it's been in the warehouse for a long time, I used to use it a lot in the past, now the keys and buttons get stuck. After watching this video, I wanted to give it to the service and make it usable again. :) It's like a demonstration of what could have been done with a old school in the past. Great music ! thanks
How long did it take you to master this machine kn this level? I can just manage to make drum patterns but really struggle to program instrument parts 😂 this is like the best mc 303 track I've heard
25 years ago, I started learning this machine without internet and the manual in my hands. And like any gear, you learn a bit more each time you play with it :) Here's how I programed everything for this track. It can give you a starting point for your instruments parts:) hope it will help you 🙏 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KIrLKrgV6ZQ.htmlsi=Ms5W35DtqMj_2eJ0
Unfortunately, you can't delete pattern presets and can't load / download new patterns. You have 50 pattern users to build your own with tones. Sculpt your sounds with filter, enveloppes, lfo, reverb, delay, chorus etc to approach what you want to do.
@@krostifmusic thanks, ok if I know that, the presets cannot be deleted or modified, copies of them if in the user bank, but if someone or any page has user banks let me know
@@danielortizdecaracas I don't know if it can helps you, but I deconstruct this pattern in a making of/tutorial. You can watch it here, maybe you will find some tips to build something by yourself ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KIrLKrgV6ZQ.html
Good job! A question - I tend to get a lot of dropped notes when putting in a lot of knob turns, etc. I have only a about 3 user patterns and already getting some dropped notes - any issues with that on your box?
Yes, It happened a bit to me as well, when i use all the tracks of the patterns, so i guess it's something like voice stealing.. maybe you should try to mute some tracks and see if it works better.. in this case it is really voice stealing 😄
Thank you very much ! 🙏 I made a making of this video, you can find all about it here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KIrLKrgV6ZQ.html
@@krostifmusic woohoo!!! thank you! I have an MC303 and a friend just got one and I showed him this video as inspiration for what's possible with it. You have gotten a truly unique sound out of it. So impressed! thank you!
