The end of the movie with everyone foiling at outside Waikiki reminds me of the movie “Step into Liquid”. The foil drive has now pushed the boundaries into the future and you guys have documented it and spread the stoke. I cannot wait to get a foil drive! Thank you for an unreal documentary!
Thanks so much for the kind words! We really wanted to create something different in the foiling scene and we're stoked everyone is loving it :D Can't wait to make more!
Incredible video, but it doesn't make sense with boat and jetski support to have the foil drive just to start and have the entire drag for 2h30. It only made sense if the four returned with the foil drive engine to Molokai 😂.
The boat and ski for this instance were there for filming and considering such a long crossing for safety if something happened. The Foil Drive is designed to only be there as a boost to get you up and moving. Not sure if you've downwinder but if the wind changes, or the conditions drop, you have to be able to get up and going again. For learners and pro's alike it has it's place for some, but not for everyone! for these guys, they're all doing this crossing on very small prone boards, typically people downwind this crossing on large SUPs. In the film, both Paul and Kahi are not experienced downwind foilers and may have not attempted the crossing without it. Like I said, it's not for everyone, but for some, it always them to do things they otherwise couldn't.
Hoping for some battery revelations soon enough, for these cooler Scottish waters. And also, just kinda thinking, but with this set to take off in popularity, hopefully the sea life quickly learns what these foil things are and how fast they go, otherwise, perhaps an electric output sound from the bottom wouldn't be such a bad idea. At least when the motor is below it will do something like this..
Winging (no foil drive) on US East Coast (Hatteras) we hit sharks (black tips) a lot in summer, frequently fish and sometimes bullnose rays too. Lots of dolphins here, but they are super aware and never get touched. Guessing will be about the same with FD (when motor is up and just riding foil).
