Fold-Down Murphy Bar -- Woodworking

In this video I build a folding "Murphy Bar." It is designed as a classic midcentury piece that opens to display your liquor bottles and glasses with a large bar top you can sit at and enjoy a drink. When you need some extra space, the bar top can fold away, revealing a storage cabinet below. It is made from walnut, with brass hardware. The finish is 5 coats Waterlox. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments below.
Thanks for watching!

This is absolutely fantastic. I make a lot of Murphy beds with different variations based on client needs, but I always have a difficult time coming up with a leg situation for fold down tables. It always seems like you have to hide functionality in the aesthetics. You’ve come up with a way to showcase it in plain sight. Very well done. Enthusiastically subscribed!

I like the jig for routing the dadoes for the shelves, simple but repetitive. Great looking and functioning build. I also like the grating for the baseboard heater.

😲. That’s awesome. I love the basket weave detail! I found you because of the plywood channel video but sub’d because of this one. You’re a legit builder. If you put out a few more like this one your channel’s going to go nuts. Keep it up man!

That is amazing! Your channel came up in the suggested videos. But I recognized the name from listening to the Making It podcast. David Picciuto mentioned you and this Murphy Bar. Bob Clagett had mentioned you another time. I'm glad they gave you the shout out. This was amazing to watch.

Extremely well done! I didn't notice that it was going over the baseboard heater, hence the large cutout in the back. Was that a DiResta ice pick? You got David's attention, hopefully he'll mention you on MakingItPodcast.com. Mallet synched to music was a nice touch. WIll now go and check out your other videos. Looking forward to your channel growing with more great content.
@MichaelAlm
@MichaelAlm 6 лет назад
Thanks so much! Yeah, I put the cutout in for the heater. I built the base without glue on certain joints, so if my friends move, I can install new side panels and put back legs on. Thanks for watching! And thanks for going through my other videos! (Fingers crossed for a Making It shout out)

I cannot tell you how enthralling it was to see this beautiful piece of furniture come to life - you truly have some mad skills! Also, the use of the garage door as a whiteboard is genius; something I will definitely begin using in my shop. Thank you! 👏👏👏

I don't know how much time the editing took you, but the transitions with the music are impeccable! This was some great work from a project/product standpoint as well as the production. Excellent job. Especially the bits around the hammering and the initial case assembly where you are standing up the walls in time with the "whooshy" music.

I appreciate that you used laminated plywood and pocket screws. A build that is both beautiful and approachable for the hobbiest woodworker. No dominoes, no crazy glue-ups, no special equipment. Thank you for posting this. Wish there were plans! Just out of curiosity do you have a sketchup file you would be willing to share or put up for purchase? Thanks and keep up the exceptional work!

Nicely done, thanks for sharing! I really like your pillowed edge banding - that makes for a really nice effect. What bit did you use to accomplish that?
@MichaelAlm
@MichaelAlm 6 лет назад
Thanks Jeff! I used a round-over bit, with most of it behind the fence of my router table. (Basically the bottom 1/3 of the bit is exposed) It leaves a flat on the face that I hand sanded to a clean oval shape.
