Yes, I even did two of my early early YT's on it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sHn6fcwwwtY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n93zXD372yE.html With a MFT 12mm f/1.4 and this light you can sit very close to your camera and get good WB. I use the custom WB in the GH4/5
DSLR Video Shooter I’m on the fence hesitating between LiteCloth, Soonwell and FlaconEye 2x2. Is it worth it to spend more $ on the LiteCloth, which is back on sale right now.
I just want to take a minute and say thank you. I’m a young filmmaker who makes videos and films for a living, and I’ve recently been trying very hard to step up my cinematography game, and I owe a ton to you, thank you!
Thank you for the very kind words Echo! A comment like yours is better than 100 "I used your affiliate link" comments! Very rewarding to hear fellow filmmakers learning and creating. Best to you and yours!
Looks amazing! I don't like that the light itself is so small but controls are cumbersome. I would really like to see something like this with smaller controls as well. The price though is a deal breaker..
Agree. They should've separated the controller and the power brick. This way the controller (and the power brick) could've been smaller in size and felt way better when operating the light. Maybe a wireless (short/mid range) controller that could be charged when attached to the power brick? :)
Great review, and that’s another cool led light! I’m looking forward to your review of the Spekular light! I’m doing myself some videos about it right now! Cheers from Japan!
So many great choices in portable soft light sources these days - I went with the Falcon Eyes SO-68td (which I'm really happy with) but this looks awesome.
Excellent review. It jives with what I encounter with this light. I love it! Also, I had shot an interview just last night and boomed it over two people. Only I didn't use the soft box, but draped a 1/2 grid cloth around it and made a "jellyfish" light. It's like an unstructured lantern light. One thing to look for that tripped me up. One time the light wouldn't turn on either with a battery or AC. I was pissed and thought it was defective. It took me an hour to figure out (by accident..lol) that if you push one of the knobs in, it turns off the light. Of course, there wasn't any documentation to enlighten me. I like that you can light an interview with about 20% of the power. That means I can leave the big assed power brick behind for most of my shoots and just use batt power for most of the day.
Another great lighting review, Caleb! That bracket to turn it into a huge panel is sick and would, if the price were a little lower, be an ideal rig for a bigger overhead source given the weight size of these panels. Keep it up!
Luv it! Hard case is good, thinner power source a MUST!! Portability is KEY!!! Still on the fence on what to buy... very interested in seeing what they come up with next. If this LiteCloth LC-160 drops a few hundred $$, I could easily live with that huge power brick I think :)
I'm about to send these lights back. in the 5000k range, they're super pink. Absolutely destroyed the skin tones on the shoot that I used them for. I should have done more testing before i took them on a job.
Good feedback. I also wonder if they can stand the stuff that will be invariably piled on top of them when folded in a Pelican case or similar travel situation.
How would you compare it to the FalconEyes 24TDX in terms of output & color? It's the same size and approx. same wattage, but considerably cheaper and actually flexible, rather than just foldable. Though I imagine it wouldn't fold down quite as small.
The output and general light quality of both lights is similar but while the actual of Kelvin output on both lights is below the readout on the controller ( aprox 5000 when it reads 5600, the Intellytech will adjust all the way up to around 8000 while the Falcon eyes stops at a nominal 5600 actual 5000 so you can get true daylight only with the Intellytech. I also like the Intellytech case a great deal. I'm not sure which frame will last longer. If the Intellytech velcro holds up its great but time will tell. Intellytech is a US company and they have great customer service - will replace any problems immediately. Falcon eyes had no one who spoke good English at NAB last year for what that's worth. I have the smaller Falcon Eyes and the 2x2 Intellytechs. The first Intellytechs were magenta but have good color now and the falcon eyes were just a hint off to the green though still not bad.
This array is composed of 4 one-foot square, 256-LED 40W panels. That's about twice the wattage per LED as typical 500-LED panels and the frame of this one doesn't appear to provide much heat-sinking. It looks well built, but I'd have to be concerned about its long-term reliability. If any LED row burns out, the whole array is damaged and there doesn't appear to be any modular way to replace components.
Yes, it is expensive. But, you get the equivalent of : 4 LEDs panels in one, portable, practical and foldable unit; very accurate colour temperature reproduction and great range; absolute massive power, unreal for something that basically fits in a small bag no doubt (!); and a great controller that comes with the unit, that can even be hang-off the light-stand... everything been though out down to the latest detail! Definitely out of my budget; but definitely worth *every single penny*. So people... *stop complaining super-high-quality things are expensive because you cannot afford them. Please. The moment you will need a light of this quality you *will be able to afford it*. Simple! :) - Literally every single pro out there
Caleb, did you test the V-mount? The main attraction of this light is the ease of travel, so I'd like to know what V-mount batteries will work with it in terms of Amps. I just spoke to their chat support and they weren't able to verify the Amps required. Only said 160Wh or higher, but of course 160 is the limit for air travel, so....
Great point! I should have covered that in the review. You might look into this battery for air travel: www.coreswx.com/product/hcprimes/ It is actually two batteries that stack for a larger battery all while being TSA/air travel friendly!
I have the Intellytech pocket V 98WH batts which are cheap at $199 and at 12A Max draw can power the LC-160 for about 50 min at 100%. Their dual charger is very fast btw.
OK, so foldable is neat, but in terms of light quality and output, are there as good if not better options available to me for cheaper? Any suggestions? I like the attachable softbox and grid.
Cool light. Wish it had grommets to hang it on a wall easily. Besides using the included mount on a stand, do you see ways this could be mounted in tight situations?
how bright is it compared to the lightstorm 1k? and would you say this is a good replacement for the 4 bank flourescent tubes most people use for interviews?
PeglegMedia this is key for me. Recently worked with 4 bank kino's and I loved them, and I'm hesitant to go LED just yet over them. I was thinking an aputure lightstorm with large softbox, but now I'm unsure. Caleb, what're your thoughts?
Looking at the wattage specs, this out to beam out the LS 1s and easily out perform the bi-color LS 1c. You'll also have a larger light source which will get you much closer to the soft look of a kino. Heck this is easily softer with the soft box installed.
Hey Koto! I would feel great about using this instead of a kino. This is effectively two Kino 2' 4Banks stacked on top of each other. I hardly ever used the light past 25% with the soft box and only use about 70% when pushing through two layers.
Great review, thanks for your hard work, how this light compare to the Falcon Eyes RX-24TDX 150W, which one would you pick ? and which one is brighter?
I'm wondering how this compares to the Falcon Eyes 24TDX that you've also reviewed...they seem like almost the exact same product, but the Falcon Eyes is half the price. Also looks like the Falcon Eyes may be brighter, based on the LUX info available online...Any chance you have the temp-specific CRI info on the Falcon Eyes like you do for the Intellytech? If they're comparable, it makes the Falcon Eyes look like an incredible bargain.
How would you compare this to the versatility of the Aputure 120D, which would come to about the same price with the light dome and maybe even a godox honeycomb grid?
They are very different light styles. This light is really designed for a quick setup key light where as the 120D can be a little more versatile (bounce lighting etc) but setup time is a little longer.
Cool, thanks for the reply! I'll have to check this light out...looks like it could be very useful for traveling light and being on the go (I use the 120D in my studio because I can leave it setup all the time).
Interesting light! I was a little skeptical about the bi-color only option, but it sounds like this does quite well in spite of that. How does it compare to something like the Westcott Flex lights?
I haven't used the big Flex lights, but it looks like the Westcott 2x2 is at 200w vs this light's 160w. But the cost is double so there is that I guess. Color is probably similar on both.
hey dslr shooter, i am looking for a camera because i would like to start doing travel videos. i am traveling with my girlfriend this summer to a nice vacation at a nice beautiful place and would like to share it on the internet. which camera do you recommend me? my budget is not the biggest (max. 700-1000 euro for a complete setup). a nice camera with a 3,5mm microphone jack to put an external microphone in, 4k is optional and a good autofokus to get my footage nice and crisp. also i'm using a stabilizer for my footage. i cant decide to go dslr or mirrorless, can you please help me? thank you so much, keep up the great work :-)
DSLR Video Shooter that makes sense! It was easy to recognise because I just received my falcon eyes 24tdx light yesterday which I brought after watching your review :-)
I was so excited until I saw the controller/power supply. Why build a small foldable LED and pair it with such a massive power/controller. It kind of defeats the purpose.
For 160w the power supply has to be that big and I feel the controller could be a little smaller buy I'm sure there are engineering limitations like having to have a big battery mount etc. Still, packing this over a kino is a HUGE win!
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure that is true. I'm looking at my macbook pro power supply. It's 85W. They can make something that is about twice as that size and it would be smaller than this guy.
Insane control box. Why so big. ##Need help## with the new youtube policy. 1k minimum subs for monetization now. Have only some left. Thanks in advance.
$999?! I remember at least 3 years ago there were alreay tutorials show you how to DIY this for just $60... Intellytech nice try knocking off other people's idea and making easy money...
