My husband has MS and we recently bought him a Foldawheel. He has used it a few times when the walk is too far from the parking lot to the doctor's office. He loves using it and is getting better at it the more he uses it. The only thing is that it is really heavy. I am short but not a weakling...I lift my 50lb dog. I can't lift the wheelchair into the back of my Honda Pilot. We have two wheelchair ramps that we drive the wheelchair up to get it into the back with some difficulty. The Foldawheel is a great wheelchair and we are happy with our purchase.
Rosalie Mehrab Have you tried taking the batteries out before loading up the wheelchair? I know that is only a portion of the weight, but it may help. That was suggested to us. It may be the difference between the weight of your dog, and the full weight of the chair. Oh, and thanks for watching!

Ty for your personal demonstration of this chair. It is very frustrating to watch video demos posted by any of the manufacturers because they are not using real life disabled people. I appreciate you mentioning that your full weight can stand on the footrest without the chair tipping forward (and hubby too). This is a concern of mine as I'm reviewing all the chairs. I need to transfer by sliding over and I may need to bear some weight on the footrest.
Hi Tinkmoments, i like your video and your new chair. I see you had a problem with the joystick locking lever. It's very much like a quick release bicycle wheel - open the lever so it is loose, and adjust the thumb nut until the lever can lock firmly. This will take a wee bit of trial and error to find the right spot. Good luck. Thanks again.
The back tires are actually solid rubber which is better because you don't have to worry about punctures. That is how they came and it is a comfortable ride. I hope this answers your question.

My parents are nearly 75 years old. I’m worried about the weight of this chair for loading it into a car or van. Can you tell me the weight and your thoughts about an elderly person’s ability to pick it up? My parents are fairly healthy and hale today, but who knows when that may change.
Hiya, how are you finding the wheelchair now? Have you needed any repairs? If so how has the repairs experience been? I really want this wheelchair however an engineer told my mum that they are difficult to get parts for. However so many people say its a good chair!
I go to wheelchair88.com for my chair and my parts. Listen to those that have told you that it is a good chair. Yes the chair has been damaged, and we had to get parts for it then, and then I made a silly mistake when I put away the charger and cables, and I had to order a new part for that. Each time the ordering was fast and easy. As for the damage it was not from any deficiency in the chair. When we took the chair on a trip with us, the airline drug the chair on its side causing the wheel to bend instead of rolling it on its wheels like a wheel chair should be moved. Since this chair is composed of solid, simple, units, wheelchair88 was able to just send the wheel motor unit, and the tech was able to install it in 15 minutes and we were ready to go again. The cable that I closed in the trunk was ordered as soon as I got in the car and arrived 2 days later. The chair takes me around town on smooth and broken, uneven sidewalks, in to doorways that are almost steps, across the field for concert in the park, up and down the grassy surrounds to Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Old San Juan. So if you want a good chair that is durable and versatile, this one is. Just stay away from the copy cats, and be careful with airlines.

I am only slightly worried about the speed of the chair since its only 4mph whilst I think my current wheelchair is 6mph but I don't want to fully replace my current chair anyway.
@@Me-ii2wt The only reason that was outsourced was because it was an insurance claim by the airline. They broke it so they had to fix it. As far as the speed is concerned, sometimes I think I get going a little to fast.😬

I have a 1000-XL and been on many cruise ships with it. It fits all Handicap rooms but not all regular rooms. It seems some of the newer ships have narrower doorways. However, it is very easy to fold and wheel into any size rooms. I bough mine with 3 batteries and can go all day on a cruise ship without recharging
I have found the same results, both with the doors, and the batteries. As you mentioned, the chair can fold to be wheeled into a standard room. I find this a huge advantage when scheduling a cruise. If I am unable to get a handicap accessible room, I can book a standard cabin and ask for the items such as the shower chair to be placed in the cabin. When we return to the cabin, my companion is able to help transfer me to a chair inside the cabin and then fold and bring my chair in. I prefer to have the chair in the cabin with me instead of parked somewhere down the hall out of the way. I would be worried about who was messing with it, if I could not bring it in the cabin. You also pointed out the extended use with the 3 batteries. On our cruise that ended in San Juan, I charged my 2 batteries our last night on board, and the 2 lasted me all day as we toured Old San Juan. I did not need to charge the batteries again until we settled into the hotel late that evening. Thank you for sharing. I love hearing how others are able to enjoy traveling with their foldawheel.
Thanks goodness, Mum lives in a flat and has no electricity in the garage at the moment (we are rectifying this, so they have to carry the batteries to the flat to charge them. Thanks so much for your prompt reply.

Adnan Rizvi I can only answer for what I have knowledge and experience with. As for the batteries, I have had chairs with both, and the Lithium where tops in all areas. They were lighter, they charged faster, and ran more miles. I pulled up the Airwheel to see the difference after reading your question, and saw that the prices were pretty comparable. I think where you would see the difference in price would be in the shipping depending on your location and where you are buying from. I could not see the air travel being any different. With my Foldawheel, I drive it right up to the gate, and down to the plane, transfer into an isle chair, my travel companion removes my batteries and covers up the chair. At this point my chair can either be placed on the plane in the pilots closet or stowed underneath and brought back up after landing. The Airwheel is slightly heavier at 66 pounds, and the Foldawheel is only around 50. I do not have any more information that I can speak knowledgeably about. If any of my viewers have more information please don't hesitate to share
Where did you buy your chair please. I see they’re on Amazon by Wheelchair88 but it gets delivered from Malaysia and I don’t feel very comfortable dealing with Malaysia if I have any problems or should I need parts. Do other stores have it in, having bulk-bought a few from Asia? I am in England so obviously I would need to track a company down who are closer to home. I just wondered if Wheelchair88 do allow other companies to buy them to resell or whether they try to keep control of sales then
Frogzilla I am also in England and have this chair, which I Inherited from a dear friend. It had a damage to one of the motors and even though I was not the purchaser I had fabulous service once I contacted them. This tbh can be problematic, but not in a bad way. The best way to contact them is by phone as the people who deal with email are not the people who deal with anything you may need to know, the proprietor does that himself and is beyond helpful. As for delivery I know my friend was astounded by how quickly it arrived after ordering. You should have no problems in that respect. The new wheel motor I got to replace the damaged one ( damaged here, not in transit, a wire got inadvertently bitten through! ) came with equal speed and a return courier for the old one. We also got detailed instructions for replacing it, which took next to no time. Everything was handled by a top international courier. I have one battery only and am saving up for another, I carry my charger with me and this chair has never let me down. I can use it on buses, and taxi drivers are always amazed by it, having had to deal with other cumbersome, heavy, and sometimes impossible chairs. You can get other similar chairs, but really do not let the fact the company is in Malaysia put you off, we now live in a global world.
I am disabled and I have to have a more comfortable car than a WAV Van, which is all we can get in UK. So I am going for the most comfortable car I have tried to date, a Nissan Pulsar. It's a hatchback and I need a electric wheelchair that will fold up and is light enough for a light hoist to be able to lift it in to the back of the car. My cousin and carer drives my car and would be loading the wheelchair in to the car that's why we need a hoist, she is 69 and not in a 100% health and I am 67 unable to walk or stand unaided. I am considering this wheelchair and you have given a great review but can you tell me if the back is comfortable, does it lean back slightly because if it is bolt upright then it will not be comfortable for my low back? Dorothy, I do understand your plight. During long days in the chair, I do have to adjust frequently the more the day lags on. We added a gel honeycomb pad from Costco that I found as an added comfort for my bottom. As for my legs and back however, the back of the chair is not adjustable. It comes in a very slightly reclined position. I bring a memory foam lumber pillow to make adjustments throughout the day. I know that is not a replacement for a reclining back, but I just wanted to share what works for me just incase any of my experiences may be of any help for you. How much does it weigh? Dimensions: Length & Width? It is customizable seat width etc? I need the smallest one possible to get into small bathrooms in my home. Next video can you show in house convenience and getting off the front of it (I'm a 1 leg amputee and prefer getting on & off from the front without having to step on the foot pedal)-I prefer the floor for stability and prefer the front especially for a narrow bathroom.
Susan thanks for watching. The complete chair weighs about 55 lbs. You can remove the batteries and put them in a their own bag. This will reduce the weight by about 10 lbs (5 lbs per battery - I have 2 on my chair). As for the measurements, the seat width is 19″ between armrests; the seat is 18.5 inches from the ground; the length (from front to back) is 36 inches, the height is 35 inches, and the width (from the farthest point out on either side) is 23.6 inches. The width of the door that I must go through to get from the garage into the main living area in my 5th wheel is 24 inches, and I do not have any problem with clearance. I am working on a video currently that will show me transferring from the truck into the chair, accessability to my RV home - including climbing the incline of the ramp into the garage, passing through the small doorway, transferring to either my rocker or my couch, functionality in and around the kitchen, and transferring to the steps leading to my bathroom. I would be happy to include transferring in and out of the chair using the foot rest, without using the foot rest, and the option to enter and leave the chair from either side when the arm rests are raised out of the way. Hi i'm a new wheelchair user and only have the use of one hand. I have the foldachair wheelchair which folds up exactly like this. However i'm finding that the frame is stiff to fold/unfold the wheelchair. I'm just wondering would I be able to sit on a chair and do it as it is knocking my balance
Electro Madness Hi! And thanks for watching. You definitely can complete the folding action while you are seated in a chair. If I may make a suggestion - to help the chair fold easier, try spraying the hinges with dry lube. It will allow the parts to have a smoother action, and because it is dry, you will not get a greasy mess, and the sprayed area will not attract dirt. I have a product called RV care Window and Slide Track Dry Lube for areas needing lube in my RV (my 5th wheel home on wheels! ). You can find similar products (ones not intended for RVs) at an auto parts store, Walmart, or a hardware store. Let me know how this works for you. We have two batteries in mine and I drive it around Disney World all day long including from the hotel, onto and off of the transportation and back to the hotel. So I would say approximately 18 to 20 miles on a charge without any problem.
stephenjmansfield I had no problems getting through any of the doors on the Disney Wonder (older ship). If you need to check numbers with your cruise line, I am able to get it through the back door of my RV (sliding glass door in toy hauler that goes from the kitchen to the garage). stephenjmansfield We have been on the Navigator before I got my Fold-a-wheel. I seem to remember that the doors were average size, but, the rooms seemed a bit small. Which should not be a problem if you plan to transfer out of the chair and fold it up.

I was able to get in and out of my house and all around inside just fine before we sold it. I know have an RV that I am able to maneuver through. William Sue, I am not sure if you were search for the answer to the question about the comparison of the weight of the Airwheel to the FoldaWheel or just the weight for the FoldaWheel, but here is the weights of both. Airwheel is slightly heavier at 66 pounds, and the Foldawheel is only around 50. Also, the weight of each individual battery on the Foldawheel is about 5 lbs. I hope this answers your questions.
I have to say, they are worth it though. I have had a few other chairs prior to this one, and i typically would have to stop at least once if not twice a day to recharge my batteries. With these batteries, I can go all day with a full charge. I plug in over night and they are ready for another full day.

I do agree, it was expensive, but so was everything else that offered all of the same features that I need and was the same quality of product. I purchased one of the imitations prior to buying my Fold-a-wheel for a cheaper price, and on my first flight, the frame was bent so badly by the baggage handlers, that it could not be repaired. I couldn't even use it temporarily as a manual push wheelchair. The metal just was not strong enough for the rigors of travel, and that is one of the main selling points of the product.
