This movement of the Suite Espanola is a small set of variations on the theme "La Folía," one of the most famous musical themes in the history of music.
Numerous pieces have been written based on "La Folía." You can hear the theme in works by Franz Liszt, Manuel Maria Ponce, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and countless others.
Many different theories exist that try to answer the question of where the theme came from (or who composed it), but we will likely never know for sure.
