Thank you for your video and look forward to the next video. I live in Atwater California zone 9. I had 500 cannas and gave away 400 so now I'm starting over I'm going to try your method. Happy canna

I have some cannas growing in my garden. And they are indestructible. Never really took too much care with them. I found your channel through your concrete paving video, which looks amazing by the way. Then I went to look at your canna garden video and it's just blown my mind. I've been walking around totally ignorant of these beauties all my life. Being in the subtropics they will be a superb addition to my garden. Thankyou very much from this Aussie in Queensland, Australia.

Hi @rubiesmilo7128 . Thanks for the comment and compliment. Glad to see there are canna lovers Down Under :-) . Yes, they are quite a resilient plant. You could chop off the leaves, cut off the stalk and they'll just keep growing back ... as long as you keep watering them. INCREDIBLE plant to add to a tropical garden. Oddly enough, one of our favorite cannas, is named "Australia", which is a beautiful tall, dark purple/black leaves that produce a brilliant orange-red bloom ... Absolutely amazing!!! Be sure to look out for one. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

The most important thing I noticed is that they should be kept in a dark place.

11:45 just tried your method. This is really great. I got nine out of 10 to germinate. First time I ever had this much success. My question I have it. I am blind, so I can’t tell which way to put the germinated seed into the soil. Does the point that comes out go up or down and how deep do you plant it. Thank you in advance. Darrel

Hi @darrelvickers6368 . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comment. That is an awesome germination rate - good for you! The embro or that white stem sticking out of the seed, is what points up and you should be fine. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

@@rosemoss7166 Hi, so sorry for the delayed response. It's summertime now so the seeds really don't have to be in the greenhouse and temperature wouldn't really wouldn't come into play. I would imagine it's pretty warm where you live. Also, if you have it in your garage, you want to make sure your plants are getting some light. At least 4-5 hours a day minimum. Hope this helps. How do you control mold/mildew? Mine seem to always grow mold. Any advice?

These videos are great! I'd be happy to see a video on the different scarification methods. And I can get the seeds to germinate pretty well in water, but they don't seem to grow passed that point. I'm looking forward to trying your paper towel method. They definitely look stronger!

Hi @shanna2743 . Thanks for the comment. Yes, I think the paper towel methos is definitely better than the soaking method. We're in the middle of making the scarification video, but as you know, it's growing season, so that's been taking up alot of our time. So, keep an eye out for it. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

Can you do a video on, what to do now that your canna has started to grow......i planted a couple seeds and they're doing great, about 5 -8 inches tall now, but i don't know what to do from here.....when do i go to a bigger pot, do i need to, what do i do as winter approaches and i only have a baby canna......i don't want to lose the great growth I've gotten so far.....but i don't know what to do now that it's started growing so well lol please help...... Vid title idea SO YOU'VE PLANTED A CANNA LILLY: NOW WHAT!?!? OR YOU'VE GOTTEN A CANNA TO GROW BUT WINTER IS COMING: NOW WHAT?!?!
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 19 дней назад
Hi @MelissaM83 . Thanks for reaching out to us. You didn't mention where you live so we're not sure of your climate - how your winters and summers are. But if you're like us here, in the northeast (zone 7b), you still have a few months of growth and then you always have the option of bringing them indoors. As far as up-potting, you kinda have to use your judgement. Cannas can grow very fast so if they're more than a foot tall, you should have it in at least a 9 inch pot. This will allow the rhizomes to spread out and grow a little better. As far as the video, we did make a video on up-potting that you can see here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gl2PkDr0s_E.htmlsi=2X7lpOt6JkUfuJ5C . It was one of our earlier videos, so ... please be kind ;-) . But maybe in the Spring, when we're growing them again, we'll consider making another one. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

How long does it take a seedling to grow to produce blooms?
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 6 месяцев назад
Hi @wacoharder . Thanks for the comment. It obviously depends on when you start growing them. But to give you an example, we start potting them in mid-May and will probably see blooms in late June to mid-July. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

Hi Dan, I just bought a 2-pack of Canna Rhizomes yesterday from a ocal nursery. They were inside store. 😂 Then I started reading about planting... I'm in zone 6, I believe, in Paris, France suburbs. Should I pot them for now? Leave them as is but in the unheated shed? Our historic last frost date is May 10, but last few years, nothing iffy after end April. Your expert advice is very much needed nd appreciated! Thanks for all your vids. Alysen.

Hi @alcg3981 . Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for the comment. If you have a greenhouse or you're starting them inside, you can plant them right away. But if you're just looking to plant them in the ground, once its warm enough - yeah, I would wait till sometime in mid-late May. We actually don't plant in the ground until around May 20th. If you're going to keep the rhizomes around till then, just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't dry out. I'd say, every week or so, just take a water bottle and spritz them down. That'll help them to start getting out of dormancy without fully growing. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan

@@jdgardensnj4563 thank you for that info. I potted it up into a Terra cotta pot, so I can nestle it in the ground next to my fountain. It's outside for now, no freezing temps in the next 10 days. Will watch it and babysit if too much rain or low night temps (3-4*c) are forecast in April.

@jdgardensnj4563 3 месяца назад
Hi @KathyNelson-ee5id . Sorry for the delayed response and thanks for reaching out to us. This is a common question we get ... you're spritzing or adding too much water to the baggie. You only want to add more water, when it looks like it's getting dry. If you see moisture in there, you're fine ... no need to spritz it again. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie and Dan

Hi I need help I have planted my rhizome canna lily in pots and put them in my up stair room in my house, It look like I got a hole in the the first leaf . Can you tell me what I am doing wrong! Also can I see you a picture of it. Please! Help me.
@jdgardensnj4563
@jdgardensnj4563 6 месяцев назад
Hi @budupgarden6109 . Thanks for the comment. Not exactly sure why you would have a hole in your 1st leaf. We gets holes in ours from time to time from rolling caterpillars but that's in our outside garden. If I had to guess, it would be some kind of insect like that. But don't worry, cannas are very resilient ... as long as there's nothing wrong with the main stem, it'll be fine. We keep parent plants in our greenhouse all throughout winter and cut ALL the leaves off, down to the stalks, and they come back just fine every Spring. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! Jackie & Dan
