Excellent message. I'm closer to 70 than I am 60 . I work my ass off but, I still dream of the next thing I want to do. Dreaming keeps you alive and always learning.
I wish I watched this a month ago, because I had a lot of sleepless nights second-guessing my life decision to pursue a passion. I almost went back to a regular job, doubting the dream of building my own business. Then a week ago, a conference accepted my proposal to present a talk, plus my first paid workshop. Then, another conference acceptance came in yesterday. Finally, today I signed my first freelance customer. So it's already working, and I'm well on my way to achieving what I wanted. I almost gave up and abandoned my dream, but here it is, happening, mostly because I didn't quit and I held out long enough for my work to pay off. In fact, my dream has become reality already, and now I get to discover if my dream is truly worthwhile.
Your use of light and movement is admirable. It makes me want to create more. My favorite line was when you reflected on how not following the dream was a missed “opportunity to learn to trust myself”. That’s profound. I’m glad your following a dream now and that you are proud to trust yourself in that process.
So I found myself praying this morning (something I’m kind of new to and not very good at) about the apprehension I’m feeling prior to embarking on a new phase of my journey. I asked things like, “What if I put myself through all of this and it doesn’t work out? What if I fail? Or just plain don’t like it? What will happen to me?”… a few hours later your video pops in my feed and I’m shook 😢😅😮. Thanks for this moment mate. Much luck to you on your journey. Keep inspiring. This is why your RU-vid dream is a good one. 🍀 ❤
At 61 yrs old, my world crumbled to a halting stop.... I moved 2000 miles away, left everything behind except for my pets & items that I love & started over. Lots of things went wrong, lots of things went right...I,m still here, standing on my own....if I can do this - SO CAN YOU!
It's so crazy the timing of this video and so many gems. Thank you. First off, of course most, replayed moment @3:41 This sequence is INSANE, it's giving me nostalgia for a classic 80s film and still something Ive never seen before. It made me believe in films again and the art of filmmaking. Please keep going.
how this video just healed and made me feel so seen & connected to you and everyone chasing their dreams with doubt always creeping in... thank you so much
Broooooo that was an insane masterpiece. From storytelling to cinematography. The shots you‘ve got were insane - lile the long skateboard shot on the bride. You‘re an inspiration. I understand you having doubts but be assured that you are an artist creating art people care about!
That first tracking shot of you skating was incredible but the second blew it out of the water! I want my videos to make people feel like yours make me feel. Good luck and Godspeed in NY!
This video is insane. The cinematography is *chefs kiss* NYC is such a magical place, I rave about it all the time and people just think I’m insane. But there’s just something about that place.
I love this. It’s genuine, original, funny and a bunch of other ticks in boxes. About chasing dreams, I’m at the end of a forty year career in commercial photography and looking back I think it’s important not to push too hard. If you become way too focused on a single goal you’re likely to miss some forks in the road that could lead to other, better places. I went from homeless to Mac jobs to a university degree in history and politics to working as a photographer on one of Britain’s most respected newspapers to thirty years travelling the world shooting projects for design agencies and their big brand clients. You could never tie all that together in a career plan, right? But it’s given me the most amazing life. Now I’m retired (but for some really choice projects), and you know what I’m planning on doing now? RU-vid videos. At 67 years old. I want to give back to all the people at the other end of the career journey. And I’m as excited as the day in 1985 that The Guardian picture editor called me in to do shift. Be ambitious, but flexible, be focused, but watch for important opportunities in your peripheral vision, then look back and be happy with how you got to where you are.
Somehow it feels like i'm watching this video at the right time. chasing your dreams is a scary thing. sometimes it feels heavy.. sometimes you question everything! but now know.. that's how everyone feels... even though its scary I'm gonna do it anyways. that's how everyone I admire does it. Beautiful video Jake, thankyou.
I needed this😭😭😭 I’ve just turned 25 and I feel so lost about everything. I used to be passionate about youtube and haven’t edited a video in 6 months and now I keep seeing videos like this about picking up a camera again and following your dreams 😅❤
You are one of the best RU-vidrs. I can't wait to watch your videos every.single.time. You're videos are so important. Please don't feel silly. They add to other people's lives.
This resonated for sure. I appreciated the part where your friend said that it's always a struggle when creating no matter if you have it all or not. That existentialism is part of creating. Really great video Jake.
I have been following my dreams for the past twelve and a half years. Working and travelling my way around Australia, it has been such an incredible journey, and it is not yet completed. I'm fortunate to have been able to work at and visit some of Australia's most stunning destinations. This video has given me ideas and encouragement to maybe try and tell the story about me, not just the destinations. Thank you.
This video came at the right time for me. In a months I will be leaving my corporate Job. To chase my dream that I have forever kept it as just a “if only…”. Started to freelance as a videographer back in 2019 but it didn’t work out because I was hella broke. But now with some savings, exposure and a decent portfolio. The only things left is “Just DO IT!”. To the dream chaser out there, take a leap of faith ✨
Jake, your storytelling and cinematography are always so inspiring! The way you capture emotions and moments is truly unique. Keep up the amazing work! PEACE: fanboy from Finland
Jake, that was fantastic! The storytelling and production quality are excellent. It really resonated with me because I also recently moved to NYC chasing my dream. On my very first day in the city, we actually met each other at the Filmmaker Friday meetup and connected there if you remember :) Keep up the great work and keep creating! Looking forward to seeing more from you
Brilliant! Loved that and the little things that make your work so special. The Dad present scene was sincere and heartwarming! Thank you for throwing us some shade.. so to speak!
I loooove your style! As someone been thinking for years to start a RU-vid channel, you are a true inspiration to me. I can only dream of having your videography skills.
Jake, I have been following your story telling for the past few years. I'm probably your Dad's age or older. I love what you are up to and I hope you find a way to live well and keep creating because you have a wonderful gift and you give wonderful gifts with each video you produce. So stoked to watch you grow. Cheers from Vancouver.
I load RU-vid and right in front of me is "Hey a video from Jake". I stop everything .. every call .. every text and watch the entire video.. Rare i might add. Jake as you know i have been following you for a long time. I am so freaking proud of you!. Live man... dream.. and thanks from the bottom of my heart for finding the love and courage to share.. (if you forget.. might i remind you.. you are good.. really good).
Thank you for the inspiration, and i wanted to compliment you on your excellent camera work. Some really cool shots ill take inspiration from. The black and white shots in the desert near the beginning, and particularly the profile of you and your shadow with the image flipped so the shadow walks above. Im definitely stealing that lol. And the skateboard shot on the bridge was incredible, as with following the guy on the train also taking a video.
no freaking way, jake! so stoked for this exciting time in your life! so cool to have seen you go from visting nyc and getting slightly sketchy pizzas tattoos to making the move there in like a year🌃
The cinematography and storytelling in all your videos is so insane! And I love all your content man. You inspire. Keep dreaming. We are all going to make it some day. ❤
Man, it's the first video I've seen of you and you've already earned my subscription. The script, the cinematography, the message. Everything was beautiful and inspiring. I hope you never stop doing what you like or dream of. Greetings from Argentina
The ability to narrow your vision into what you love to do, along with support from family and friends, creates a life of inspiration. You have all these things Jake. Keep sharpening your skills, driving through your doubts and creating refreshing stories that inspire us to believe there is more to life than tv. I love RU-vid for letting creatives create!
Watching your pops turn on the dadcam was fantastic. Reminded me of the home video my parents have of my little bro and I playing electric guitars with no shirts on 😂 This was awesome. RU-vid is showing it to the people to the right crowd!
I completed aerospace and mechanical engineering. I became the responsible and structured person I thought I needed to become. Now I feel empty and feel like Im searching for something. In my world I have more than enough money, the car i always wanted, the means to do whatever I want and the stablitiy I thought was so important. Now all I want is to travel and develop my creative skills that always came inately to me. I've only followed you for a short while now Jake and you are giviing me so much inspiration to just get up and go. Thank you. ILYSM man!
I always look forward to watching your new videos. They never disappoint. It's incredible how you work with the mood. Great job, keep it up. 🙂 Oh, and this is the first video where I actually checked out the sponsor's product, and I'm going for it... 😎
Great video as always, Jake. I like to say that I would rather try and live out my dreams and fail than being 80 or 90 and have regrets that I never gave it a go.
Hey man, i just loved your video, and your vibe, and your way to see and going through the life! got even a little emotional watching this. I desire and i hope you keep doing theses videos as long as you can. Thank you for these. Realy realy thak you. ♥
