I can’t explain how happy I am to see these lads perform their music at the mercury prize, music written with influence from old traditional irish poetry and music, how proud would any Irish person feel singing these lyrics to a crowd of British people.. very proud
@@Gregorsnek does that some how change the fact that an Irish man sings "brits out" on the BBC? Plus, how exactly is the song anti-Irish? In what interview have any of them said that?
This was where I discovered Fontaines D.C. ! Just looking back again at the fateful day I discovered their wonderful music! They've gone so far! Lovin' Skinty Fia!!!
Don't mind filth like him. Fontaines are awesome as fuck. Your a rebel for listening to this self-deemed "rebel's" hate for what he deems "True Punk"? Stupid...
The singer, great voice and lyrics, sweetness about him, handsome healthy strapping lad. Chicks be trippin at 2:43, thinkin we need to draw straws on this one. Only fair way to do it. Otherwise we'll rip each other to shreds. One of us will be the lucky.
Wow. This performance is spine tingling. It is powerful and in your face of course but there’s more to it than that, an almost shifting in the tides, a kind of change, one feels, in which the very forms of rock music are based and performed. Reminiscent of The Who or early Oasis. Not only this but I also feel it somewhat embarrassing as a Brit that an Irish band is coming over from across the water, showing up and smashing this out, blowing any British guitar bands out of the water in every department. Whilst I’m writing this a few years after this was performed I truly believe there is still so much to come from this band in terms of music and their writing but also the influence that they can exert onto up and coming bands coming through or any aspiring young song writers. Exciting stuff.
@@archiet2205 I mean their bmbmbm performance was insane, the guitarist literally did a backflip, their performance wasn't as raw yes, but it was tight, concentrated bursts of pure rage and energy
Right now in July 2023 just after the release of Grian Chatten`s first solo album one could easily see the world is his oyster. In high insight it all makes perfect sense. Viva Grian Chatten and Fontaines DC on their 4th album....No Pressure!
You're not alive until you start kicking When the room is spinning and the words aren't sticking And the radio's all about a runaway model With a face like sin and a heart like a James Joyce novel Saying sister, sister how I missed ya, missed ya Let's go wrist to wrist and take the skin off of my blister If you're a rock star, porn star, superstar Doesn't matter what you are Get yourself a good car, get out of here But the boys in the better land You're always talking 'bout the boys in the better land The boys in the better land But the boys in the better land You're always talking about the boys in the better land The boys in the better land Driver's got names to fill two double-barrells He spits out "Brits out!", only smokes Carroll's And he's refreshing the world in mind, body and spirit Mind, body and spirit, you'd better hear it and fear it Oh that's the spirit Saying sister, sister how I missed ya, missed ya Let's go wrist to wrist and take the skin off of my blister If you're a rock star, porn star, superstar Doesn't matter what you are Get yourself a good car, get out of here Yeah But the boys in the better land You're always talking about the boys in the better land The boys in the better land But the boys in the better land You're always talking about the boys in the better land The boys in the better land The driver's got names to fill two double barrels He spits out "Brits out!", only smokes Carroll's And he's refreshing the world in mind, body and spirit Mind, body and spirit, you'd better hear it and fear it Ah that's the spirit Saying sister, sister how I missed ya, missed ya Let's go wrist to wrist and take the skin off of my blister If you're a rock star, porn star, superstar Doesn't matter what you are Get yourself a good car, get out of here Yeah But the boys in the better land You're always talking about the boys in the better land The boys in the better land But the boys in the better land You're always talking about those boys in the better land The boys in the better land
we get it dude, you hate bm. and no one gives a singular fuck about your opinion. just let people listen to whatever they want to, without getting in their face about listening to "literal garbage modern art". Music is subjective.
@@michaelniner98 Did you listen to Nothing Great About Britain (Slowthai) or Schlagenheim (Black Midi)? Musically those were much bigger achievements. Totally understand the lyrical angle though, Fontaines are definitely a unique voice but I would say that the other two topped them in terms of making a more interesting record sonically.
@@horselookinghumanheadass absolutely. Fontaines doesn't come close musically. "Simple" repetitive riffs and lyrics are fun and peppy but are not really comparable
Alasdair Sutherland heard this all before, the band has its place in their scene but its nothing exciting or new is it. at least cate le bon and midi have some original feeling to them. dave deserved to win anyway
I saw Fontaine’s D.C support Shame last year and they were pretty mediocre and looked like they couldn’t be arsed to perform, I don’t think they won many fans that day
falafel 544 no not kidding, I thought they were a bit of a let down in terms of live performance as I like their tracks and was looking forward to seeing them live, i’m not saying I don’t like their music just they are average as a live band
time will tell, thats how so. all this popularity has been built by the irish media and being funded by the irish government. why?? I dont know one person that could tell why they received so much backing, but they did. then they receive this mercury music nomination.....great stuff.....more promotion is what that is....nothin else. Lets remember getting the nod for this nomination was also backed by the very same folk that pushed them onto the masses via irish radio, tv etc etc. They had the backing from their university days....made the right connections......it was not down to their music. Sales for their debut album also suggest nothing special. Remember the band The Thrills??? Put these guys in the same bracket as them.
Yes, another very poor band that are getting the push. Its fascinating how a good chunk of the public will fall for the media's favourites. These fontaines guys are a different breed altogether....they play shite music and write absolute garbage lyrics that dont make any sense whatsoever. They cant even structure a song correctly with lyrics. They say on one of their song's.....Dublin is a pregnant city with a catholic mind......maybe so if it was 1970......Dublin and Ireland today.....are far from a catholic mind I can assure you of that
what backing have they got from the irish media though? Fair enough, Ill admit i discovered them after their appearance on the jimmy fallon show which I do find peculiar how they ended up on it but I havent seen much of them on Irish media, havent heard them on irish radio yet and what the fuck is that garbage about being funded by the government?
I get that’s it an anti colonialist thing, which is awesome, but I can’t help but think that it sounds like a poor man’s Vibrators.. 🤷🏻♂️ I have nothing against these guys though, I just don’t understand the hype, it’s good but it’s exceptionally average ✌️💕
