I love how they parodied The Beatles, Dave using a hollow body that's up super high, the outfits, the stage behavior, Dave using the kind of light alternate picking mainly instead of using his standard down picking, it's awesome!
Haha yeah Taylor is a fcking champion & Dave is actually prob an even better drummer! The Colour & The Shape was my first ever CD purchase back in '97-'98. One of the greatest rock bands of all time!!! Legends!
Here's what David Letterman said about Foo Fighters before this performance: "Let me tell you a little something about Foo Fighters...so 15 years ago, I had open-heart surgery. These people saved my life. I was out, not doing the show for, like, 5 or 6 weeks. And I was talking with Sheila Rogers [producer of The Late Show at the time], and she says 'On your first show back, is there anything special that you'd like musically?' I said 'Well, yeah.' We had got to talking, and I said 'What about Foo Fighters?' They had been on, I think, at the time, 4 or 5 times. She said 'I'll ask them, but it could be a problem.' I said 'Just ask them, and also, there's a song of theirs I would like to hear. It's special to me, it's been meaningful to me and my heart recovery. It would be just great.' 2 days later, she calls back. She says 'Ohh, they're on tour in South America.' Then I said 'Oh, darn.' Then she said 'That's all right, they cancelled the tour.' ... She said 'They're coming back to do the show, and they're going to do the song you asked for.' ...and ladies and gentlemen, happily, we've been joined at the hip."
Absolutely right, except that is what he said just before their performance of this song on the last Letterman show. This is not that performance. Look at the last show, the stage set up is totally different. Plus while they played this, they showed dozens of clips from the history of the show.
aelix56 Exactly. SO COOL that Dave loves the Foos and they came to play his fave song. FAR LESS COOL that they let the average South American ticket holder wait around for a re-scheduled show. Letterman could have anything he wanted. Why punish ppl waiting to see FF? Very bothered by this.
@@beachblond1968 it was clearly a personal favor to the dude who just had heart surgery I get it's inconvenient to the south americans but they went to support their friend
Just came here bc I wanted to see Taylor smile, feels so unreal hes gone. Thanks for everything, we will never forget the passion and love you always put on the stage. We gonna miss you, Taylor. Im crying rn, but see you smile gives me relief and makes me feel so lucky to share this timeline with you. We all love you.
That baseline is very very good. Whoever is running sound is at the top of their game. This is a wonderful song and the drum part is not the easiest to stay in time but of course they've been playing it for 20 years. Just an outstanding band.
I watched this on letterman that night, didn't really know who they were, thought just some garage band, but after watching and listening kinda though hey these guys are good
Grunge died in 1995. It was pretty much dead by then. Garbage released Garbage in 1995 and they made fun/parody of grunge in their song Only Happy When It Rains. It was dead. It did not last long at all. 1991 or very late 1990 if you were in seattle till 1995.
@@nikkilove6213 I actually opened this account as my official chat account so I can have a little time for my fans and know how some of you feel about me and the band precisely.
I know right!! I'm a drummer and when I first learned this song it was very hard cause of the 16th notes at the beginning and dynamics are a bit tricky, but other wise it's amazing! Taylor Hawkins is their drummer and he's earned my respect!
This band singlehandedly kept actual, good rock music afloat from the mid 90's until today. As a rock listener, their albums have been unusually solid with an amazing 1-3 hits per release. They did great guitar and drum music during the shitty late 90's modern rock era, the shitty Metallica 2000's, mallcore and Nu Metal garbage, and up to this day. You have bands like the Killers and Black Keys taking up their own reigns in the genre, but Foo Fighters have created a seamless blend of punk roots, 90's indie rock and early 80's Van Halen arena rock to create a kingdom for themselves that defined a generation of guitar music that I'd feel proud to expose my kid to. Their drummer is incredibly under-rated. Thanks guys.
That's depressing. There's many great bands like the At the Drive In/Mars Volta that shit on the foo fighters. Shit even Paramore shits on the Foo Fighters. You have all this prog, psych rock, industrial out there. They're not even better than their mainstream contemporaries like RHCP or Radiohead. Foo Fighters are bland dad rock. They have zero classic albums and all of their contemporaries have always been better. You should listen to music outside the grammys and billboard charts. The Black Keys? Are you fucking with me?
This is a cringe mine to dig lol. You're one of those "born in the wrong generation" right ? Can't accept anything. How about Linkin Park, Green Day, Blink-182, MCR, The Killers, Paramore, Avenged Sevenfold, ... just to name a few ?
Dave you are my idol my friend. Not only are you an amazing musician, but a great businessman, dedicated and focused, no drugs, pure brains and creativity. You my friend are the epitome of American music and entertainment entrepreneurship. And that is why you and your amazing band are my idol. God bless you guys!
That guy was with David Grohl while they were in Nirvana. He played 2nd guitar in the last years of Nirvana's existence. That's something only 3 people can say on this planet. He's also 1 of 2 people that can say he played for Nirvana and Foo Fighters.
Fan of Dave since the morning show when I was 10. My all time favorite Foo song on the Color and the Shape album. Always has been. Come to find Dave loves this song. Awesome!
This live version (Live on Letterman) of Everlong by Foo Fighters has both a cathartic and sparky music energy. The vocals and music of this live performance recreate the original in a first rate way.
Yes, rest in beats Taylor.....you were an ICONIC drummer.....how can I envision FOOs without you???? sympathies to his wife and children and bandmembers and friends!
When they introduced me and my wife as Mr. and Mrs. we walked in with this starting it was sick. And we had our parents and the rest of the members of our wedding walk into Nirvana teen spirit! It was so sick!
Please don’t judge me! I’m late to really listening to Foo Fighters. I knew some of their music. But not a lot. I really got in to them in this last year! Rest In Peace to Taylor Hawkins. Your talents will be missed! My condolences to Taylor’s family & friends and the Foo Fighters family.
