She wants to keep the stick, that's so cute... For the members, it might be another show, but for Nandi this is THE DAY to remember for the years to come. So happy for her!!!
She is going to go places with this degree of skill.....I will not be surprised if this may be a "THE DAY" that the Foo Fighters remember in years to come, as well.
If jamming in front of that crowd with Dave wasn’t I intimidating enough, effing Taylor is sitting RIGHT BEHIND HER. She’s like “here, Taylor, hold my Capri Sun” 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼😭😭😭
And watch the look of complete joy on his face as he chills with his son and soak it all in. He is legit ecstatic for her. It takes class act to do what he did. Foo Fighters are now just a bunch of dads that make awesome music.
He never refers to her as a child only as his arch nemesis. He wants to be like her when he grows up. I love you Dave. Thank you for blessing us with your soul bro
I'm 40 and I've been playing music since I was Nandi's age. And I'd still find a way to mess up, miss a transition or start another verse in stead of a chorus
I really hope the music industry can find a way to help her in her career. Or maybe to go to the best music schools possible. Nandi worked hard enough for it plus she got real talent. What she did is something not many kids can do. Technically AND the chance to play with one of the world's most famous bands.
Sorry but you're a little mistake and remember when you were young I do and we never felt pressure when we were young part of the amazing thing being a child. 😁
The first of probably thousands of ovations that girl is gonna get. Dave may actually be the coolest, kindest man in rock and roll. This is just awesome.
Take it from a long time drummer: it might seem simple in terms of notation but this song takes serious practice and stamina. For her age, playing that live in front of thousands is beyond impressive.
This is exactly the type of shit that makes Dave a certifiable rock god. So humble, so accessible, so damm cool, he has allowed others to share his limelight and come into their own. Dave grohl for god!
I'm glad she kept it - that could put someones eye out! I left a "Great White" concert years and years ago with a knot on the top of my head because the drummer threw his sticks into the audience; one of them hit me in the damn head. That shit hurt like hell and I realized after the fact that he could have put my eye out.
My daughter "just turned 16" years old and I showed this to her. In true fashion to my daughter, she said "Dave is so lucky to get to meet her!" Indeed he is.
Why the quotes around "just turned 16"? Not sure if you meant that you're quoting someone? Or you're implying that she didn't "just turn 16” for some reason?
@Amy McGraw-Pate Very good to hear that. I didn't see everyone with masks in front of their faces, but full vaccination or 48h test should be sufficient (unless people lie about it, they did it in our country).
46 yo here.....I know what you mean man.....Nandi brought a lot of joy to a lot of people in dark ages (Covid-19) exactly at the right time when we needed a positive vibe like she gives. AND she is incredible skilled....she will be a big star I am pretty sure. It's a small % pecentage of children that are this good in drumming (physically it must be heavy as shit to drum a set like Nandi did with her tiny arms).
I'm not a drummer and I noticed that, she is improving by leaps and bounds. On some of her videos people some of the musicians talk about "I started when I was 17"... she's so far ahead of the curve, that it's hard to imagine a world in which she isn't a future among greatest of all time. This performance was near perfect as far as I can tell.
I love how she starts twirling the drum stick like she is revving and winding up like she about to bring the thunder. Then totally delivers. Taylor watches like his job is slipping away.
When I heard that Taylor Hawkins had died, the first thing I thought of was his interaction with Nandi at the end of this video. How he encourages her to throw her sticks into the crowd, and she throws one and is about to throw the other, and then changes her mind. While we can’t hear their conversation, it’s obvious what they were saying to each other. Taylor immediately supports her decision to keep that stick. It’s such a lovely moment of connection between two extraordinary musicians.
No, I'm not crying... not at all. Nandi's playing is no parlor-trick... this girl has really got the goods! You can feel the rush of this experience all through her. Major props to Dave for making this happen. 🎵🥁🧡
Absolutely, truly generous and motivational to give a young musician like Nandi a view of the 'big stage' and the opportunity to play with a big name band. Fantastic !
As a father with my own daughter, and also being a musician myself (on the side, at least), just seeing the uninhibited passion and joy on her face being in her element got me a bit misty-eyed as well. Those are the moments you live to see as a parent and fellow human being.
And what a mentor for Nandi to have - he's seen it all and come through the other side. Could you imagine having an Uncle Dave Grohl to call when you're down, or to call you when you're going off the rails? But Nandi's had brilliant parenting - I trust that she'll make it through adolescence on a pretty steady keel - much more upstairs than the average kid pop sensations...
Yup. The guy breaks his leg and still finishes the show. The guys from kings of Leon had a bird shit on the guitar player and they walked off stage. Dave grohl understands it’s the fans that made him who he is (nirvana helped too)
Can you imagine being 11 years old and keeping time for one of the biggest rock bands in the world? If she’s this good now, I can’t wait to see where she is in 10 years. The look of pure unrestrained joy on her face is fantastic.
Going to be interesting to see if she continues in rock drumming or venture into something more jazz oriented. She certainly will be able to write her own ticket.
I wish I could find anything that makes me as happy as Nandi looks playing drums here. Her scream during the build up at the end is one of the best things I've ever seen in my life.
What I appreciate so much about this is that he doesn't refer to her as a great "girl" drummer, but an accomplished musician. He treats her with respect and as a counterpart. He never talks down to her, which is rare for girls to experience. This is so much needed in our society, for all persons. Thank you Mr. Grohl. Keep on rocking Nandi!!
Legit tears in my eyes, what an amazing girl, what an amazing band, her losing it and just screaming while playing one of the classics absolutely kills me. Epic.
Rock god/dad hybrid energy. Best part was he didn’t describe her as a little kid, just “nemesis, rival, badass” - if you didn’t know the story you wouldn’t know she’s a kid until she comes out of stage. Legend.
And this is a perfect example of why the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl are a class act. Not many examples of bands willing to let unknown musicians share in their limelight. This young lady is on her way to great things. But no coming experience will ever come close to leaving her feeling like she did last night on the stage at the Los Angeles Forum.
When things like this get thumbs down, I remind myself that some people don’t like pizza, ice cream, puppies and sunshine. It makes me smile like those things do.
No its just we have seen kids her age a million times better. But she's a girl and black so she's some sensation. No dues payed at all. Its why rock is rapidly becoming so uncool.
@@breal1183 She is a fantastic drummer for any age. And if we are gonna be real, if we closed our eyes and just listen to the song would we know it wasn't Taylor? For a few seconds a lot of people thought they both were playing. My ears tell me she did a damn good job. If all my eyes can see is a 'black girl' then I must be blind. A kid who doesn't wanna to take up turntable or mac for an instrument is a very cool thing. I watched grown ass men cry at the Forum as she played...also a very cool thing.
@@breal1183 Well all opinions are valid to the person spouting them. Those catch words though "she's a girl" misogynistic cause girls can't be good? Mercedes Lander for one, "black" who gives 2 shits about color but if we must go there Larnell Lewis an absolute apex predator of a drummer... happens to be black, "no dues paid" challenged Dave to a drum off in a time of despair and depression and brought happiness to people. Just B (ing) Real you a racist misogynistic child of a person.
Dave is so incredibly generous in this moment. He brings Nandi on stage and elevates her above absolute rock legends. This is the nicest, kindest guy in rock &roll.
Absolutely agree 110% - he is an incredible person to ensure this young musician has the opportunity to do this with a very famous band. Wonderful in the extreme.
That look on her face as Dave screams that note and she is right there with him......that is the proof of the pudding that this young lady has music coursing through her veins. She killed it. Much respect to The Foos.
Y'know...it's not really rational for me to feel so ridiculously happy and proud for someone I've never even met...but I do. This is the second version of this I've seen today (the first was on her channel...probably her dad recording from far stage left.) Grinning even wider now. No matter what else happens today, this is gonna be a happy day for me.
I know one thing, Nandi probably healed a lot of sad people in the world just by sharing her amazing video's (with and without Dave Grohl). In the peak of covid I discovered her channel and I followed her on both youtube and facebook ever since. The personality, musical skill Nandi has is simply empowering and healing (yes, healing....she made many people feel better after having a shitty day).
Exact same here. Saw the Nandi's Dad recording from way to the side first. Hours later bumped into this one and watched it. Freakin' teared up both times. I'm not sure what it is. It has something to do with unadulterated anti-sarcastic anti-ironic pure love & joy - love of music - the joy of achievement and of life. It sounds as soppy as it is I suppose but bottle it up because the world needs it.
In tears... Dave's right. Seeing this whole Nandi-Dave challenge over the past year has been an immense source of joy for me and, I'm sure, many, many others.
Dave Grohl always seems embarrassed being called "The Nicest Guy In Rock" but then...THIS. What a cool guy and an amazing friendship between Dave and Nandi. She really is a badass drummer!
Nandi more than deserves this moment. She brings so much life and energy to her playing. I'm sure this is going to drive her even more to want to do this every night with her own projects. Love it!
The best part is when Taylor gives her 2 sticks to toss to the crowd, she throws one and just before she throws the second she gets his attention and asks if she can keep it!!! Awesome!
I discovered Nandi two years ago. Since then she has received gifts from Dave and others of different instruments. Bass, 6 string guitars, trumpet, all which she promptly figured out how to play exceptionally well. Check out her page where she plays all instrument songs. Dave is correct: She is the real deal!
Been following her for 2 years too, and I am watching this with tears in my eyes as if I'm her aunt. So proud. Her parents must be so so proud. She is fan-tas-tic! The next Sheila E. OR maybe even better ..♥️
She just keeps improving. And, I know she's played that song a ton, but to absolutely nail it, live, is a huge task. And she nailed the fuck out of it.
I love how Grohl puts kids on stage with him in front of huge crowds. This one is great. Nandi kicks it. She’s a natural. I love how she flips her sticks. The crowd shouting her name doesn’t faze her at all. Dave is just himself. The F bombs fly. He’s brilliant and cares about music especially with young kids.
I love how much he obviously respects her. It would be so easy for this to be a gimmick, like “isn’t it cute that this kid plays the drums,” but no. He recognizes and treats her as a fellow musician. It’s wonderful to see.
I followed this when it happened and thought, what a great thing for Dave to do, but being a drummer and have played this song countless times, you all have no idea how hard it is to play that song! Let me tell you that she was absolutely perfect! Rock n roll is in good hands if kids like her are in the world! Tears!
@@porkman302 As nandi has said in numerous interviews... she's been practicing daily for six years learning the basics, techniques, and songs ... keep at it and rock on Pork Man!! :)
@@porkman302 Her mantra is "Just be yourself, have fun, and Practice Practice Practice". I think we can see this in this video, what a stunning moment. Also, Foo fans are the best for the warm welcome they gave to Nandi. Blew my socks off without removing my shoes!! 😃
I don't think there ARE any other kids like Nandi Bushell in the world! But I'm absolutely positive that she has inspired some more kids out there to practice and work hard at what they love and I hope we'll be seeing their skills someday too. I can not wait to see what she does for music in about ten years if she's this phenomenal now!
There's something that's just so pure and good about this whole interaction. The sheer joy on her face is amazing. Watch out Taylor... she's coming for your job. Love it.
For all the people that gave a thumbs down....who pissed in your coffee? This video has made me smile more than anything lately. How generous of the Foo Fighters and how fantastic for this young girl. Shows hope in this crazy world.❤
@@rdmatthews2 She's a precious fucking rockstar! And so is Dave! Two absolutely precious, joy-filled, rocking-the-fuck-out souls up there on that stage!!!
She couldn’t have had a harder Foos song to play to, and she absolutely nailed it. Those 16ths were sensational and the rolls in the pre chorus and the chorus itself were to die for. Well done to that young lady
I'm in tears. Of joy. Of gratitude. Off unbelievableness. I'm happy. Thank you Dave. Thank you Nandi. Thank you rock n roll. Thank you Nandis parents. And thank you all here whose heart cries tears of joy on this. You are my tribe. Please never ever disappear.
Seeing the look on her face says it all! She is a joy to watch play! And when she screams while playing it’s makes you feel the song that much more! This girl is going to do great things!
Cant get enough of this and the other videos of this event - I think every father dreams this was their daughter - he must be so proud - one of the best things I'ver ever seen.
This is why so many of our comrade vets serve...so every little girl may get a chance to be whatever she wants to be. No matter where they live. No matter their language, religion, city, villiage or tribe. All girls have this human right. God bless you Nandi...I really needed your pick me up bad as drum playing. You rocked it!
@Amy McGraw-Pate why did he have to say "black girl magic", what if it said "white girl magic " or "biracial girl magic"( which she appears to be). I was curious, that is why I asked about it. why is it mentioned?
Watching this again after having just watched Shane Hawkins play at the tribute, and it looks like he was sitting next to his Dad the whole time during this. Man, what a tragedy, and the lyrics make this moment more so - "If everything could ever feel this real forever, if anything could ever be this good again."
She is amazing..but look who is sitting next to Taylor? Shane! He is learning from his dad. Unfortunately and so sadly a little over a year letter from this concert, Shane is playing without his dad
Yeah I agree. The video, of this show, that Nandi posted on her RU-vid channel captures her prideful dad screaming in the back. It's awesome. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fyvwLAPNfXY.html
Just watching her face full of joy, the girl is living the dream and doing something she absolutely loves, someone pass me a tissue i got something in my eye
Right there with you! Who could dislike this? She is pure Joy in an 11-year-old body. Plus genius! Although I have to say, I have not been a Foo Fighters music fan, but if Nandi Bushell loves them this much, maybe I ought to listen closer!
There's a poster upthread who claimed it wasn't worthy of a thumbs up because "there are a million other people out there with more talent who don't get the same opportunities because they're not kids or black" Yes, some people really are that joyless and bitter 🤷♂️
@@L_M_C Yeah I saw that one..anyone who's ever picked up an instrument in whatever capacity and thought they were going to rock themselves into royalty and riches (if that's what the dipshits tantrum is about) knows damn well that there are literally millions of people that are incredibly talented musically and also millions of them who won't "make it". The difference maker pretty much always is doing it at the right place and time, but most critically in front of the right person(s)....and taking advantage of it. Trying to claim there isn't universal access to that shot in the dark isn't only absurd..it's just a gd cop-out, and I couldn't be happier she got that shot in life and the comment crybaby that got the shit ratio'd out of himself...didn't 😊💖
Dave, no matter what story you are in, you are always the good guy. Nandi, you have achieved a dream of a lifetime, and you have SO MUCH MORE to look forward to. May you live the life of your dreams!
How can anyone NOT love Dave for this? He’s the last of the iconic rockers. To give this moment to her will set her up for success (as she so well deserves). Thanks for sharing this! Cheers from a fellow Foo Fan in Texas. 🤘
Watching Nandi play Everlong on stage with the Foo's made this day brighter and more hopeful. She is already a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to see and support her future artistic endeavors! Thanks Dave Grohl for reminding us that Love is always the answer.
This is hands down the best thing I have ever seen on youtube. The live experience must have been unbelievable. There was so much love on that stage, it doesn't matter how many times you watch this video, you can feel it over and over.
Been watching the "drum off" since pretty much the beginning. It's awesome to see Nandi get the chance to play live and ROCK LA! Nandi, don't ever stop playing! It's so much fun watching you crush it!
She looks like my niece Simone. Aww I miss her. I'm in LA and she's back home in Harlem. Anyway she's not a drummer but she can sing pretty well. This girl is incredible. It warms my heart to see this kind of talent and at this age. Especially since it's rare to see black kids take up drums these days, and even more rare black girls take on an instrument like the drums. I've seen black girls take on the bass or piano but damn, this warms my heart. I hope she doesn't ever stop playing.
I absolutely LOVE this!! Dave Grohl has become an exceptional "Master of Ceremonies" (aka "showman") and you can tell he loves his job and people! You rock Nandi !!
It's been a joy to watch her journey from the Argos Christmas advert, the Purdie shuffle with Kravitz, Questlove and the Epic drum battles with Dave Grohl. Rock and Grohl indeed.
I just had another thought. Imagine Nandi in her last year at school with a meeting with the careers advisor. Nandi says "I want to be a rock star". Careers advisor says "Nandi, you already are... can you autograph this drumstick for my daughter". :)
